Die Geschichte
Die Komödie „Das Gespenst von Canterville“
von Oscar Wilde handelt von der modernen
amerikanischen Familie Otis, die nach
England umzieht. Auf der Suche nach einem
angemessenen Wohnsitz für seine Frau,
seinen Sohn Washington, seine Tochter
Virginia, und seine Zwillingstöchter, stößt
Mr. Otis auf das Schloss Canterville. Trotz der
vielen Warnungen vor einem Gespenst, kauft
er es noch am Abend der Hausbesichtigung.

Schnell genug soll die Familie jedoch das
Gespenst richtig zu spüren bekommen,
denn Lord Canterville, ein über 600 Jahre
alter, stolzer Schlossgeist hat schon ganz
andere zu Tode erschreckt. Leider hat es sich
in dieser Hinsicht bei der Familie Otis etwas
verschätzt, denn von den selbstbewussten
Amerikanern wird es bald an den Rand des
Wahnsinn getrieben.
Einzig Virginia möchte dem Gespenst helfen
seinen Frieden zu finden...

l’Histoire
La comédie « Le fantôme de Canterville »
nous présente la famille Otis qui déménage
de l’Amérique en Angleterre. La famille compte
quatre enfants : le fils ainé Washington, la fille
Virginia et des jumelles. À la recherche d’une
résidence appropriée pour sa famille, Monsieur
Otis décide d’acheter le manoir de Canterville le soir
de sa première visite. La demeure est hantée et le
fantôme, qui y habite depuis plus que 6 siècles, fait fuir
les habitants les uns après les autres. Mais une famille
d‘Américains modernes ne se laissera pas impressionner
par un fantôme britannique. Ils en feront voir de toutes
les couleurs au pauvre fantôme! Bientôt, c’est lui qu’on
persécute!
Seulement Virginia prend le malheureux au sérieux et veut
l’aider trouver la paix.
The Story
The comedy “The Canterville Ghost” by Oscar Wilde tells the story
of the Otis family who moves from America to England. The Otis
family includes Mr. and Mrs. Otis, the eldest son Washington,
daughter Virginia and younger twin daughters. In his search for
a suitable residence, Mr. Otis comes across Canterville Chase. He
buys it on the evening of his first visit, despite ample warnings
that the house is haunted. Shortly after they move in, none of
the family can deny the presence of Lord Canterville, a proud
600-year-old ghost who is trying everything he can to make life
in the castle miserable. Unfortunately, he has not taken into
consideration the Americans’ pragmatism and undaunted selfconfidence. Very soon he finds himself at the brink of sanity…
Only Virginia does not dismiss the ghost and wants to help him.
