Liebe Leser:
Dear Readers:
Da kam mitten in die "Sommerpause"
unserer PDF-Ausgabe eine Mitteilung, die
uns zunächst erst einmal sprachlos machte:
Ein Nachwuchspferd von Isabell Werth
wurde positiv auf eine Dopingsubstanz
getestet. Natürlich schlug diese Nachricht
vom Dopingfall bei DER deutschen
Vorzeige-Reiterin ein wie eine Bombe.
We had just entered the "summer break" of
our PDF-printing issue, when the news
came around, that an upcoming horse of
Isabell Werth was tested positive on a
prohibited substance. This news came like
a bomb – and first made us speechless. A
doping case at THE Geman dressage idol!
Selbstverständlich hat Isabell Werth einen
sehr großen Fehler gemacht – sie wird
sicherlich auch dafür bestraft werden. Und
ebenso
selbstverständlich
ist
die
Faktenlage klar, dass die Substanz
Fluphenazin nichts im Blut von Whisper zu
suchen
hatte,
als
dieser
in
die
Medikationskontrolle geriet.
Aber es ist peinlich zu sehen, wie schnell
man in Deutschland eine Art Hexenjagd
veranstalten kann. Es ist ebenso peinlich zu
erfahren, zu welchen Aussagen sich
Funktionäre hinreissen lassen, die sich
vorher fast die Hacken abgelaufen sind, um
neben Isabell Werth aufs Foto zu kommen.
Aber so richtig peinlich ist es, dass der
niederländische
Bundestrainer
Sjef
Janssen als einer der wenigen die Dinge
beim Namen nannte. Als Sjef Janssen in
Aachen sagte "Was jetzt in Deutschland mit
dieser Lady gemacht wird, ist unglaublich" –
da bekam er von den internationalen
Medienvertretern spontanen Applaus Nur
einige deutsche Journalistinnen schauten
bei diesem Statement recht indigniert.
Herzlichen Dank, lieber Sjef Janssen. Sie
hatten den Mut, hier einige Dinge wieder
ins rechte Licht zu rücken. Es ist nämlich
'was anderes, zu jemandem zu halten,
obwohl der einen Fehler gemacht hat, als
auf einen einzutreten, der schon am Boden
liegt.
As a matter of course, it was a big mistake
which Isabell Werth has made – for sure,
she will be punished for this. And also as a
matter of course, the facts are clear that the
substance Fluphenazine had no buiness in
Whsiper's blood, when the gelding was
taken to the medication control.
But it is embarrassig to see how fast in
Germany a kind of witch hunt can take
place. It is also embarrasing to which
statements some functionaries get carried
away – the same men which in past times
did everything to smile on the photos next
to Isabell.
But most embarrassing is, that the Dutch
bondscoach Sjef Janssen was one of the
few ones which dared to call a spade a
spade: When he said in Aachen: "It's
incredible how they play ranks on this lady
right now in Germany", there was
spontaneous
applause
from
the
international journalists. Only some German
(female) journalists were looking quite
indignant.
Thanks a lot, dear Sjef Janssen: You had
the guts to put the things in perspective. It's
indeed harder to stick to somebody despite
he made a mistake instead of kicking
somebody who is in a sorry stake.

Deutsches EM-Spring-Team benannt
Zum deutschen Spring-T eam in
Windsor gehören: Marcus Ehning
(Plot Blue, Leconte oder Noltes
Küchengirl), Meredith MichaelsBeerbaum
(Shutterfly
oder
Checkmate), Thomas Mühlbauer
(Asti Spumante) und Carsten-Otto
Nagel (Corradina). Als Reserve
wurden Marco Kutscher (Cash
oder Cornet Obolensky) und Philipp Weishaupt (Souvenir) benannt.
Der deutsche “Leitwolf” Ludger
Beerbaum wäre trotz KaderWiederaufnahme eh’ nicht für
Windsor in Betracht gekommen seine junge Stute Gotha möchte
Beerbaum noch nicht in Championaten einsetzen, Coupe de
Coeur ist nach seinem Sturz in
Balve noch nicht wieder fit.
Besitz von Athina Onassis zur
Verfügung stehen, darunter Aboyeur W) keine Berücksichtigung im
T eam gefunden hat. Deusser, der
in der Vergangenheit zweimal
durch positive Medikationskontrollen auffiel, lieferte sich im vergangenen
Jahr
einen
heftigen
Rechtsstreit mit der Deutschen
Reiterlichen Vereinigung (FN).

the German showjumping team as
well as the longlist for the dressage riders for the European
Championships, which will take
place end of August in Windsor.
Members of the German showjumping team in Windsor will be:

Es verblüfft nicht sonderlich, dass
die aktuelle Nummer 7 der Weltrangliste, Daniel Deusser (dem
gegenwärtig ja auch noch eine
Reihe von T op-Pferden aus dem
Carsten-Otto Nagel / Corradina
(Shutterfly or Checkmate), Thomas Mühlbauer (Asti Spumante)
and Carsten-Otto Nagel (Corradina). As reserve riders are
named: Marco Kutscher (Cash or
Cornet Obolensky) and Philipp

Dressurreiter für die Europameisterschaften in Windsor bekannt.

It isn't too much a surprise that the
current number 7 of the world
ranking list, Daniel Deusser (who
right now has quite a lot of top
horses in his barn, after Athina
Onassis placed some of her
horses at his disposal, among
them Aboyeur W) was not considered for the team. Deusser, who
in the past had two positive medication controls at his horses, in
the last year had a tough legal
dispute with the German Equestrian Federation (FN).

Die deutsche Dressurmannschaft
steht noch nicht fest - bislang gibt
es nur die Longlist. Diese lautet:

Bekanntermaßen muss Bundestrainer Holger Schmezer auf Isabell Werth (gegenwärtig gesperrt
und außerdem schwanger) sowie
auf Ulla Salzgeber (deren Pferd
Herzruf’s Erbe sich in Aachen verletzt hat) verzichten.

Moorlands T otilas auf der Überholspur: es scheint, als gäbe es
gegenwärtig niemanden, der Edward Gal und seinem lackschwarzen Hengst gefährlich werden
könnte.
Und
aufgrund
der Abwesenheit
von
Isabell
Werth bei
den kommenden
Europameisterschaften
erwartet
man
für
Edward Gal eigentlich eher einen
Spazierritt zum Titel als einen
wirklichen Fight.

Schon im Grand Prix hatten sich
Edward Gal und T otilas mit
79,745% deutlich an die Spitze
des Feldes gesetzt. In der Kür
toppte das Paar dann alles: Atemberaubende 89,4% schlugen
für ihn zu Buche – Weltrekord !
Die Richter sahen Gal auch in der
A-Note zwischen 83 und 90(!)
Prozent. Hier glich der Abstand
zur Zweitplatzierten Adelinde Cornelissen mit Parzival einem Erdrutsch - Adelinde erritt sich das
tolle Ergebnis von 82,2%, was
aber natürlich vom Überflieger Gal
klar in den Schatten gestellt wurde. Einmal mehr der Niederländerin dicht auf den Fersen war GroßBritanniens Laura Bechtolsheimer
mit Mistral Hojris, die sich mit ihrem Kür-Ergebnis von 81,8% als
ernstzunehmende Gegnerin für
Windsor zu Wort meldete.
Es steht eindeutig fest, dass der
niederländische
Bundestrainer
Sjef Janssen für die EM in Windsor mit einem Luxusproblem zu
kämpfen hat. – er hat im Moment
einfach zu viele gute Reiter
Already in the Grand Prix, Edward
and T otilas dominated the field
with a 79,745%-score. In the freestyle, Edward Gal was simply brilliant: breathtaking 89,4% were
shown on the score board – world
record!
The judges rewarded Edward and
T otilas in the A-score with results
between 83 and 90(!) percent.
The runner-up was really quite far
away this time: Adelinde Cornelissen and Parzival finished with a
super score of 82,2%, but highflyer T otilas outshone everything.
Once more following closely was
Laura Bechtolsheimer, who finished third with her Mistral Hojris,
getting a score of 81,8%. However, the young British rider
proved once more that she will
have a say in Windsor.
It’s clear that the Dutch national
coach Sjef Janssen has to fight
with a luxury problem with regard
to the European Championships
in Windsor – he indeed has the
problem of having too much good
riders for the team !
Der 24. Juni 2009: Auf einmal ist
Reitsport in Deutschland ein
Thema. Aber nicht wegen sportlicher Leistungen – da waren selbst
bei gewonnenen Weltmeisterschaften die Erfolge der deutschen Reiter den Medien maximal
eine Randnotiz Wert. Nein, diesmal geht es um Doping. Deutschlands Vorzeige-Dressurreiterin Isabell Werth ist mit einem Nachwuchspferd in einer Rahmenprüfung des Wiesbadener Pfingstturnieres in einer Dopingprobe aufgefallen – und die deutsche Medienlandschaft überschlägt sich.
Hier die Chronologie der Ereignisse.
24. Juni 2009 - Der Tatbestand
Die Internationale Reiterliche Vereinigung FEI gibt bekannt: In einer
Medikationskontrolle von Isabell
Werths Nachwuchspferd Whisper
beim Wiesbadener Pfingstturnier
wurde Fluphenazin gefunden,
Gegen Isabell Werth wurde gemäß dem FEI-Reglement umgehend eine vorläufige Suspendierung ausgesprochen. Die umgehende Suspendierung nach einer

25.Juni 2009 - Äußerungen
Am
Mittag
gibt
FNGeneralsekretär Sönke Lauterbach ein Interview im ARDMittagsmagazin, in welchem er
unter anderem sagt: “Es zeigt
letztlich für uns …. dass überall
da, wo es um Macht geht, um
Geld geht, um Erfolg geht, auch
Manipulation betrieben wird.”
(Anmerkung der Redaktion: Die
international
ausgeschriebene
Dressurprüfung Prix St. Georges
beim Wiesbadener Pfingstturnier
war mit einem Gesamtgeldpreis
von € 1.500,00 dotiert; für den
Sieg in dieser Rahmenprüfung erhielt Isabell Werth € 325,00).
Wie die Deutsche Reiterliche Vereinigung (FN) in ihrem offiziellen
Pressetext mitteilt, wird Isabell
Werth die Öffnung der B-Probe
beantragen.
Bei Fluphenazin handelt es sich
um ein Psychopharmakum, welches in der Humanmedizin unter
anderem zur Behandlung von
Psychosen, psychotischen Syndromen und als Therapie bei psychomotorischen
Erregungszuständen eingesetzt wird.

FEI in Lausanne eine Anhörung
angesetzt, nach welcher ent-

Isabell Werth veröffentlichte folgende offizielle Erklärung: "Es ist
mir…. ein Anliegen, die Öffentlichkeit - ergänzend zur FNMitteilung vom 24. Juni 2009 persönlich über die Hintergründe
dieser Angelegenheit zu informieren. Whisper leidet am sog. SHIVERING SYNDROM, zu Deutsch
“Zitterkrankheit” genannt. Es han-
delt sich um eine Erkrankung des
zentralen Nervensystems, die
Gleichgewichtsstörungen auslöst,
wenn das Pferd - wie zum Beispiel
beim Beschlagen, Bandagieren
und Putzen - längere Zeit auf nur
3 Beinen stehen kann …….
Diese Krankheit ist zwar nicht
schmerzhaft, und sie schränkt
auch die Sporttauglichkeit des
Pferdes nicht ein, aber sie bewirkt
wegen der unkontrollierten Ausfallschritte eine erhöhte Verletzungsgefahr für die am Pferd arbeitenden Personen (Schmied,
Pfleger, Reiter).
Ich habe mich deshalb bei meinem Tierarzt Dr. Hans Stihl (SUI)
erkundigt, ob und wie man dieses
Shivering Syndrom behandeln
kann. Dr. Stihl erklärte mir, dass
es bis heute kein Medikament
gibt, mit dem sich die Krankheit
vollständig heilen lässt, dass aber
mehrere von ihm behandelte
Pferde gut auf das Medikament
MODECATE angesprochen hätten. Dieses Medikament enthält
die Wirksubstanz FLUPHENAZINE. Wir haben Whisper daraufhin
am 16. Mai 2009 einmalig mit diesem Medikament behandelt, um
herauszufinden, ob er auf dieses
Medikament anspricht. Dies war
der Fall, denn das Zittern wurde
schwächer und es gab deutlich
weniger unkontrollierte Ausfallschritte beim Beinanheben.
Auf meine Frage nach der Absetzdauer sagte mir Dr. Stihl, dass
nach seiner bisherigen Erfahrung
6 T age reichen, dass man aber
nie ganz sicher sein könne. Deshalb haben wir uns aus Sicherheitsüberlegungen
dazu
entschlossen, Whisper erstmals wieder am 30. Mai 2009 am Turnier
in Wiesbaden einzusetzen. Diese
Entscheidung habe ich nach bestem Wissen und Gewissen getroffen. Trotzdem hat nun das Do-

der FEI
Restspuren
des
besagten Wirkstoffes festgestellt.
Der Grund dafür könnte sein, dass
das Labor eine neue Analysemethode angewendet hat.
Die FEI hat nun eine sofortige
Sperre gegen mich verhängt, wie
dies das geltende Reglement in
solchen Fällen zwingend vorschreibt. Dass nur noch unwirksame Restspuren des verabreichten Medikamentes nachweisbar
waren, spielt nach dem geltenden
Reglement keine Rolle.

darüber, wie es zu der positiven
Medikationskontrolle ihres Pferdes

beim
Wiesbadener
Pfingstturnier hatte kommen können. Die FEI entschied daraufhin
gemäß dem geltenden Reglement, die Suspendierung der Reiterin bis auf weiteres aufrecht zu
erhalten.
Ich bedaure den Vorfall zutiefst,
war aber der Überzeugung, korrekt gehandelt zu haben und wünsche mir, dass das Reglement
möglichst rasch so überarbeitet
wird, dass sinnvolle medizinische
Behandlungen bei Sportpferden
möglich werden, ohne dass man
deswegen lange Sperren riskiert,
weil sich die Absetzzeiten wegen
laufend neuer Analysemethoden
ständig verändern und im doppelten Sinn des Wortes “unberechenbar” werden.
Ich bin mir bewusst, dass ich zu
Zweifeln an der Redlichkeit und
Sauberkeit meiner Person und
unseres Sports Anlass gegeben
habe. Ich entschuldige mich auf
diesem Wege bei allen, die dem
Reitsport und mir verbunden sind.
Selbstverständlich werde ich alles
tun, um an der Aufklärung der
noch eventuell verbleibenden
Fragen mitzuwirken.”
25. Juni 2009 – 1. FEI-Hearing
In einem T elefon-Hearing mit der
Internationalen Reiterlichen Vereinigung hat Isabell Werth darauf
verzichtet, die Öffnung der BProbe zu verlangen. Sie gab die
Behandlung
ihres
Wallachs
Whisper mit dem Medikament
Modecate zu. Die Suspendierung
der FEI bleibt bis auf weiteres bestehen
Isabell Werth bekannte sich in der
- laut Medienberichten - lediglich

sagte Isabell Werth zur Frage, wie
sie von dem positiven Medikationsbefund erfahren habe “In diesem Augenblick ist eine Welt für
mich zusammengebrochen. Das
war ein absolutes Trauma.” Bereits tags zuvor hatte die Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa Ulf Walz
mit den Worten über Isabell Werth
zitiert “Die Frau ist am Boden zerstört.”

Äußerungen der FN in der FAZ
Die Deutsche Reiterliche Vereinigung (FN) in Person von FNGeneralsekretär Sönke Lauterbach belastet Isabell Werth nach
Zitaten der Frankfurter Allgemeinen Zeitung (FAZ) schwer.
Lauterbach soll, so zitiert ihn die
FAZ, über den T atbestand gesagt
haben: “Das Mittel steht auf der
Liste, und es
war
drin.”
Darüber hinaus soll er
starke Zweifel an Isabell Werth’s
Erklärung erhoben haben, dass
Whisper trotz des shivering syndroms voll sporttauglich war:
“Nach Aussage von mehreren
Tierärzten ist er nicht fit to compete. Nach ihrer eigenen Aussage ist
das sehr wohl der Fall.”
Anmerkungen von Journalisten,
dass er bzw. die FN damit ihrer
jahrzehntelangen Vorzeige-Ikone
in den Rücken falle, wies Lauterbach gemäß eines Zitats des
Sportinformationsdienstes sid zurück: “Ich sehe den Vorgang sachlich.”
Bei den Deutschen Meisterschaften in Balve hatte Isabell Werth an
der FN Kritik geübt, Die Juristin
Werth hatte geäußert, dass “da in
Warendorf hochbezahlte Herren
sitzen” und trotzdem die Untersuchungsarbeit nach der Kaderauflösung an eine externe Kommission abgegeben wurde. Es wurde in
mehreren Medien berichtet, dass
Sönke Lauterbach über diesen
Vorwurf wenig amused gewesen
sein soll und diesen zurück gewiesen habe.
Geteiltes Echo:
Das Echo in den Medien und in
der Öffentlichkeit ist geteilt. Natürlich ist Doping in keiner Weise zu
akzeptieren und die Forderung
nach einem sauberen Sport klar
definiert. Mit dem Vorwurf der bewussten Leistungsbeeinflussung
im Fall von Isabell Werth tun sich
aber viele Medien und auch breite
T eile der Öffentlichkeit schwer:
Eine einmalige Karriere für einen
völlig unbedeutenden Sieg in einer völlig unbedeutenden Prüfung,
bei der es 325,00 € zu gewinnen
gibt, wegzuwerfen …… das glauben nun wirklich nur wenige Menschen. Selbst die Bild-Zeitung, die
Anschlagsäule der Nation, bleibt –
bei aller moralischen Entrüstung –
in ihrer Berichterstattung sehr zurückhaltend.
Die dpa zitiert FN-Generalsekretär
Soenke Lauterbach mit dem Statement: “Angesichts der Fälle, die
es gegeben hat, sollte jeder die
Zusammenarbeit sehr, sehr sorgfältig prüfen.” Herr Lauterbach
vermeldete, dass es jedoch keine
“Anweisungen” geben werde, die
Zusammenarbeit mit Stihl zu beenden.
Dessen ungeachtet kündigte Otto
Becker, Bundestrainer der Springreiter, an, für die Betreuung seines privaten Turnierstalls weiterhin an der Zusammenarbeit mit
Dr. Stihl, der vielen als europaweit
anerkannter Spitzen-Veterinär und
exzellenter Diagnostiker gilt, festhalten zu wollen. “Ich arbeite seit
30 Jahren mit ihm zusammen und
habe sehr gute Erfahrungen gemacht”, meinte Becker im WDR.
Natürlich müsse man “über den
Vorfall sehr kritisch diskutieren”,
aber er werde weiterhin mit Stihl
ebenso wie mit anderen Veterinären zusammenarbeiten.
01. Juli 2009: Die FN droht schon
mal mit Berufung…..
Es gibt noch nicht einmal einen
T ermin für die Hauptverhandlung
gegen Isabell Werth beim FEITribunal, da kündigte die deutsche
FN
in
Person
von
FNGeneralsekretär Sönke Lauterbach lt. Meldungen der dpa schon
eine mögliche Berufung beim CAS
gegen ein möglicherweise zu mildes Urteil an.
Die Deutsche Presseagentur dpa
schreibt wie folgt: “Zugleich kündigte Lauterbach an, dass die FN
im Falle einer niedrigen Strafe für
Werth beim Internationalen Sportgerichtshof CAS Berufung einle-
gen
werde.”
Der
FNGeneralsekretär wird weiterhin zitiert: “Wenn es ein Urteil gibt,
müssen wir uns das in Ruhe anschauen.”
Bereits im Fall von Christian Ahlmann hatte die deutsche FN gegen das ihrer Meinung nach “zu
milde” Urteil beim Internationalen
Sportgerichtshof CAS Berufung
eingelegt und eine Verdoppelung
der Strafe erreicht.
Im Pferdesport (in Deutschland?)
gelten eigene Gesetze: Zum einen
kann hier ein Reiter sehr wohl für
das gleiche Vergehen mehrfach
(von der FN und von der FEI) bestraft werden - etwas, was in der
“normalen” Rechtsprechung absolut verboten ist; zum anderen

Die Präsidentin der Internationalen Reiterlichen Vereinigung gab
in einem Interview mit dem WDR
Isabell Werth klar Rückendeckung: “Ich glaube nicht, dass Isabell Werth eine Betrügerin ist”,
so die FEI-Präsidentin. “Sie ist offensichtlich von ihrem Tierarzt
sehr schlecht beraten worden.”
Sie glaube auch nicht, dass Isabell bewusst habe dopen wollen
“Sie hatte doch alles zu verlieren,
aber nichts zu gewinnen”, so die
Prinzessin. “Für so etwas hätte sie
doch nicht ihre Karriere weggeworfen.”
Darüber hinaus sprach Prinzessin
Haya auch davon, dass “Isabell

doch über 20 Jahre unendlich viel
für den Sport getan hat.” Die Reiterin habe in all der Zeit viele “persönliche Opfer für den Sport” gebracht.” Und ein persönliches Statement gab es von Prinzessin
Haya, wenngleich diese natürlich
auch betonte, dass die offizielle
FEI-Beurteilung dieses Falles Sache des Tribunals sei: “Ich habe
den persönlichen Wunsch, einen
Menschen zu unterstützen, der es
wirklich verdient hat.”

Reiterlichen Vereinigung.

In einem Interview mit der Frankfurter Allgemeinen Zeitung (FAZ)
sprach sich FEI-Präsidentin IKH
Prinzessin Haya für eine umfassende
Reform
des
FEIRegelwerks zu Doping und Medikation aus. Die Prinzessin sagte
der FAZ: “Wir müssen die Regeln
wirklich ändern!”
Gerade das Beispiel von Isabell
Werth zeige die Problematik des
gegenwärtigen Regelwerks auf.
So wird die FEI-Präsidentin von
der FAZ zitiert “Dieser Fall zeigt
deutlich, dass die aktuellen Regeln total wirr sind, was die Rolle
der Athleten angeht. Wir haben
keine klare Unterscheidung zwischen Doping und Medikation.
Überhaupt fehlt die Klarheit. Wir
müssen die Regeln wirklich ändern.”
Der WDR wollte hierzu natürlich
auch ein Statement der deutschen
FN haben. Diesmal trat jedoch
nicht FN-Generalsekretär Sönke
Lauterbach vor die Kamera des
WDR (Lauterbach hatte kurz zuvor zu den vermehrten Dopingtests und den vermehrten Dopingfällen
gegenüber
WDRRedakteurin Sabine Hartelt gesagt
"Die müssen wir alle kriegen!"),
sondern FN-Präsident Breido Graf
zu Rantzau.
Und die Prinzessin gab einmal
mehr Isabell Werth trotz des aktuellen Dopingfalls Rückendeckung,
auch wenn sie darauf hinwies,
dass ihre persönliche Meinung
das FEI-Tribunal in seiner Entscheidung nicht beeinflussen werde: “Aber auf menschlicher Ebene
will ich sagen, dass sie eine sehr
intelligente Person ist, die viel dafür geopfert hat, unseren Sport voranzubringen, eine wundervolle
Karriere aufzubauen und dafür zu
sorgen, dass die Fahne ihres
Landes gehisst wird. Ich glaube
nicht eine Sekunde, dass sie all
das wegwerfen würde. Das ist
unmöglich.”
Der meinte zunächst einmal: zum

anstehenden Doping-Vorwürfe zu
beenden, zurück gewiesen

heißt es abwarten."

equestrian sport is a theme of interest in Germany. But not due to
sports' success - for this, even a
victory in the World Championships for a German rider was
more or less a side note only in
the German media. No, this time
it's about doping. Germany's
"showcase" for equestrian sport,
the most successful dressage
rider ever, Isabell Werth
is blamed for doping. During the
Pfingstturnier in Wiesbaden, her
young horse Whisper was tested
positive on a prohibited substance. The German media flips

June 24th: The Facts of the case
The FEI announced that during a
medication control of Isabell
Werth’s upcoming horse Whisper
at the Pfingstturnier in Wiesbaden,
the substance fluphenacine was
found. According to the FEI-rules,
Isabell Werth was immediately
suspended for the present.
The immediate suspension after a
positive A-test is part of the FEIrules since beginning of last year.
June 25th, 2009 – Statements
At noon-time, FN secretary general Soenke Lauterbach gives an
interview
to
the
ARDMittagsmagazin (noon magazine),
in which – among others – he
stated: “Finally, it shows us ……
that everywhere, where it’s a matter of power, a matter of money, a
matter of success, there also is
practiced manipulation.”
(Note of the editors: the international dressage test Prix St. Georges at the Pfingstturnier Wiesbaden was endowed with a total
price money of € 1.500,00; for her
victory in this 'side test', Isabell
Werth got an amount of € 325,00.)
Isabell Werth published the following official statement: "I feel the
need to inform the public personally – in addition to today’s FN
press release – about the background of this matter.
Whisper suffers from the so-called
SHIVERING SYNDROME. This
affects the central nervous system
and causes imbalances if the
horse has to stand on three legs
for a longer while – for example
when being groomed, bandaged
or shod. Feeling insecure, the
horse begins to shiver and lunges
uncontrollably for fear of losing its
balance and keeling over. This illness is not painful and does not
influence a horse’s ability to compete, but it entails an increased
risk for the persons working with
the horse (farrier, groom, rider).
Therefore I asked my veterinarian
Dr. Hans Stihl (SUI), if and how
this Shivering Syndrome can be
When asked for the settling time,
Dr. Stihl told me that according to
his experience, six days are
enough, but one could never be
completely sure. So, to be on the
safe side, we decided to let Whisper compete again on May 30,
2009 in Wiesbaden. I took this decision to the best of my knowledge. In spite of this, the FEI doping lab has now found traces of
said substance. One reason may
be that the lab has used new analyzing methods.
The FEI has suspended me immediately, as dictated by the rules
of procedure. The fact that only
ineffective traces of the drug were
found does not matter according
to those rules. I deeply regret this
incident, but I was convinced that I
had acted correctly. I wish the
rules were revised as quickly as
possible in a way that allows reasonable treatment of sport horses
without risking long suspensions
because the settling times change
constantly with each new method
of analysis and become literally
“incalculable”. I am aware that I
have given reason to doubt the
honesty and cleanness of my person and of our sport. I herewith
apologize to everyone who is
close to me and to equestrian
sports. Of course I will do everything to help clarifying any questions that still remain.
June 25th, 2009 – 1 st FEI-Hearing
In a telephone hearing with the
FEI, Isabell Werth had renounced
the requesting for opening the B-

sample. and admitted the medication of her gelding Whisper with
the medicament Modecate. The
suspension remains in full force
until further notice.
Isabell Werth pleaded herself
guilty in the - as per media reports
- only 10-minutes telephone conference with the FEI and gave full
clarification about how the positive
medication control of her horse
Whisper at the Pfingstturnier
Wiesbaden could happen. As per
current regulation, the FEI decided that the suspension of the
rider remains in full force until further notice.
In an interview with the newspaper Rheinische Post (Düsseldorf /
Germany), Isabell Werth answered the question how she got
the information of the positive
medication control as follows: “In
this moment, my world caved in.
This was an absolute trauma.” Already yesterday, the German
press agency dpa had quoted Ulf
Walz with the statement on Isabell
Werth: “She is devastated.”
June 27th, 2009 – The FN-Statements in the FAZ
The German Equestrian Federation (FN), namely in person secretary general Soenke Lauterbach,
as per quotes in the newspaper
Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung
(FAZ) has highly incriminated Isabell Werth. As it is quoted by the
FAZ, Soenke Lauterbach allegedly should have stated to the
facts: “The substance is on the
listing, and it was inside” (found in
the horse - the editors). In addition, he is said to have expressed
disbelief with regard to Isabell
Werth’s statement, that her horse
Whisper is fully capable for being
competed. “According to the
statements of various veterinarians, he is not fit to compete. According to her own statement, he
indeed is.”
Utterances by journalists, that by
this he resp. the German FN
stab their long-lasting dressage
icon in the back, were - as per a

quote by the sport information
service sid - refused by Mr. Lauterbach: “I consider this incident
businesslike.”
At the German National Championships in Balve, Isabell Werth
had passed criticism on the FN.
The lawyer Werth said that “there
in Warendorf are sitting highsalaried men” but in spite of that,
the investigation work after the
dissolution of the national squads
was passed on to an external
commission. Later on, it was reported in various media, that Mr.
Lauterbach was said to be not
amused about this accusation and
should have refused the allegation.
Mixed Responses:
The response in the media and
also in the public is split. Naturally,
there is no way ever to accept
doping and there is a clear request for clean sport. But, indeed,
large parts of the media and the
public have a problem with blaming Isabell Werth for wilful improvement in performance. T o
throw away an unique career for
an absolute insignificant victory in
an absolute insignificant competition (with a price money of 325,00
Euro) – there is much disbelief.
Even the Bild-Zeitung, the German "advertising pillar" – besides
all moral outrage - treats the case
with reserve
June 30th, 2009:
As per the German Press Agency
dpa, the German Equestrian Federation has indirectly advised their
riders against a future cooperation
with Swiss veterinarian Dr. Stihl
(who had informed Isabell Werth
wrongly about the settling time of
a prohibited substance and therefore Isabell Werth got caught into
the doping trap).
The dpa quoted FN secretary
general Soenke Lauterbach as follows: “In the light of the cases
which have happened, everybody
should verify the cooperation very,
very careful.” However, Mr. Lauterbach stated that there will be no
“order” to abandon the cooperation with Dr. Stihl.
Despite this, German National
Coach Showjumping Otto Becker
announced that for his private
barn, he will continue the cooperation with Stihl. Dr. Stihl is wellknown in large parts of Europe as
being a top-class veterinarian and
being able for excellent diagnosis.
“I’m working since 30 years now
with Dr. Stihl and have made quite
good experience”, Otto Becker
said in the WDR. For sure, “this
incident will have to be critically
discussed”, but he plans to further
consult Dr. Stihl as well as other
veterinarians.
July 1st, 2009: The FN threats
preventively with appeal…..
A date for the main hearing
against Isabell Werth at the FEITribunal has not even been fixed,
but according to statements by the
dpa there is already the threat of
the German FN (in person of secretary general Soenke Lauterbach) to appeal at the CAS in
case of a “too mild” judgement.
The German Press Agency dpa
writes as follows: “At the same
time, Lauterbach announced that
the FN will appeal at the Court of
Arbitration for Sports CAS in case
of a low punishment against Isabell Werth.” The FN secretary
general is further quoted “When
there is a verdict, we will have to
look at it unhurriedly.”
Already in the case of Christian
Ahlmann, the German FN had appealed at the CAS against the “too
mild” judgement and had achieved
that the verdict had been doubled.
The equestrian sport (in Germany?) has it’s own rules: First, a
rider can be punished twice (by
the FN and the FEI) for the same
act (which is absolutely forbidden
in normal jurisdiction), second, an
outside party can appeal at the
CAS (in normal jurisdiction, only
the claimant or the defendant can
appeal, but not a third person).
July 3rd, 2009 – Support for Isabell from her toughest competitor
The Dutch dressage queen Anky
van Grunsven, who is Isabell
Werth’s toughest competitor since
more than one and a half decades, has expressed her dismay
about the way how it is dealt with
Isabell Werth in Germany after the
positive medication test.
Anky van Grunsven pointed out
that in no way she wanted to embellish the positive medication
control: “Again, here was made a
very big mistake.” But Anky
added: “But this doesn’t eliminate
anything from all this what she
(Werth) did for the sport during the
past 20 years!” The Dutch idol
added: I do hope that – should I
ever come into such a situation, I
would get more support from my
federation!"
Also Anky’s husband and 'Dutch
national coach Sjef Janssen can
only agree to his wife’s opinion.
Janssen, who is well-known for
his open, sometimes radical statements, said: "It's incredible how
they play ranks on this lady right
now in Germany. First, they
cheered for her, and now they are
killing her!"
While some German (dressage)
rider meanwhile give the impression that they have never heard of
Isabell Werth (or, if yes, only bad
things), Anky van Grunsven
stated: “I sent Isabell an e-mail.
T o support her!”
July 5th, 2009 – The FEIPresident in an interview
In an interview with the German
broadcasting station WDR, the
FEI President, HRH Princess
Haya gave clear support to Isabell Werth: “I don’t believe that
Isabell Werth is a cheater”, said
the FEI-President. “Obviously,
she was badly misadvised by
her veterinarian.”
She also does not believe that
Isabell Werth had any intention
to dope her horse: “She had
everything to lose, but nothing to
win”, said the princess. “She
never would have thrown away
her entire career for something
like that.”
In addition, Princess Haya
stated that “Isabell had done so
much for the sport during the
past 20 years”. The rider had
made so many personal sacrifices for her sport. And Princess
Haya, who clearly pointed out
that the official FEI-judgement is
not her, but the FEI-Tribunal’s
decision, added a personal
statement “It’s my personal wish
to support a human being who
really deserves it.”

With this opinion, the 35-year old
FEI-President, who during her
active showjumping career represented her home country Jordania at the Olympic Games
2000 in Sydney, is in clear contradiction to the opinion of the
German Equestrian Federation
(FN).
Naturally, the WDR had asked
for an official statement of the
German FN regarding this interview. But this time, not FN secretary general Soenke Lauterbach (Lauterbach had expressed towards the WDR moderator Sabine Hartelt soon before concerning increased doping tests and increased doping
cases ''We have to catch them
all!') but FN President Breido
Earl zu Rantzau came to an interview. Rantzau first said: "This
is the statement of a woman",
but soon added "of a friend". But
the FN-President pointed out
(which is in clear contradiction to
his secretary general), that he
would have "full trust in the jurisdiction of the FN Tribunal" and
that for the time being he would
"assume that there will be no
necessity to appeal at the CAS
in this case". The case of Christian Ahlmann would have been
"completely different".
July 12th, 2009 – Haya tops it off
In an interview with the FAZ, FEIPresident Princess Haya clearly
opted for a modification of the
regulations on doping and medication. The Princess told the FAZ
"We really have to change the
rules!"
Precisely the example of Isabell
Werth would disclose the problems of the current regulations.
The FEI-President is quoted by
the FAZ: “This case clearly shows,
that the current rules and regulations are completely mazy concerning the role of the athlete. We
have no clear differentiation between doping and medication. In
general, clearness is missing. We
really have to change the rules!.”
And once more, the Princess
backed up Isabell Werth despite
the current doping case - however, she pointed out that her personal opinion in no way would influence the FEI-Tribunal’s decision in this case. “But on a human
level I would like to say that she is
a very intelligent person, who had
made huge sacrifices for promoting our sport, for building up a
wonderful career and for ensuring that the colors of her country is
hoisted. I don’t believe even for a
single second that she would
throw away all this. This is impossible.”
In the very open interview, besides the current doping and
medication problems, the Princess
talks about the accusation that at
the FEI-head quarter in Lausanne
there would be “fear and loathing
among the full-time employees”,
about the doping case of her husband, the ruler of Dubai and about
the mistrust that it would be her

intention to push through endurance riding as Olympic discipline.

Club (IDRC) has refused to accept
a request from Isabell Werth to
resign as board member and
member of the IDRC due to the
current doping-accusations.
The President of the IDRC has
written the following open letter:

members received your email of 1
July 2009 informing us of your intention to resign as member and
board member of the IDRC.
While we understand and appreciate your concern that the IDRC
will be negatively affected by the
fact that you are subject to an ongoing investigation by the FEI for
use of a banned substance, we
wish to advise you that we cannot
accept your resignation. Y ou have
always been a dedicated, committed and professional member of
our organisation and we would
like to continue our mutually beneficial association with you.
We have complete faith that you
will be vindicated and cleared of
any intentional wrongdoing. We
wish to offer you our wholehearted
support and look forward to your
continued participation in our activities.

front of the FEI-Tribunal Lausanne. After the three and a half
hours'-hearing, no judgement is
taken directly.
Isabell Werth tells afterwards: "I'm
glad that I managed this day. Now
we have to wait.

Zwei T age nach Isabell Werth steht der nächste T op-Reiter am DopingPranger: Jetzt ist es Groß-Britanniens Springreit-Legende Michael Whitaker, dessen Pferd T ackeray beim Turnier in La Baule am 14. Mai positiv getestet wurde. Bei dem 9-jährigen Wallach T ackeray wurde die
Substanz Altrenogest gefunden, die auf der Dopingliste der FEI steht.
Gemäß dem geltenden Reglement wurde Michael Whitaker umgehend
von der FEI gesperrt. Der Reiter hat die Öffnung der B-Probe beantragt.
Whitaker, 49, hat an sechs Olympischen Spielen teilgenommen und
dabei in Los Angeles T eam-Silber gewonnen, er gewann ebenso
T eam-Silber bei den Weltreiterspielen in Aachen und holte bei Europameisterschaften 3 x Gold (T eam), 5 x Silber (Einzel und T eam) sowie
3 x Bronze (Einzel und T eam).
Die Substanz Altrenogest ist ein synthetisches Progestagen und gehört
zur Gruppe der Steroidhormonen.
In einer ersten Erklärung sagt Michael Whitaker, dass ein Pfleger zwei
Futtereimer verwechselt hätte – T ackeray hätte das Futter für eine rossige Stute bekommen.
Was auffällt, ist die T atsache, dass sich im Ausland kaum jemand für
dieses Thema interessiert. Das größte britische Reitsport-Magazin veröffentlicht diese Meldung mit 2 T agen Verzögerung, und kommt auch
später nicht darauf zurück.

Now it’s Britain's showjumping legend Michael Whitaker. His horse
T ackeray has been tested positive on a prohibited substance at the
competition in La Baule on May 14th. The substance Altrenogest, which
is shown on the FEI-listing as ‘doping’, was found in the sample of
T ackeray, a 9-year old gelding. According to the current regulations,
Michael Whitaker was immediately suspended by the FEI. The rider
has requested the opening of the B-sample.
Michael Whitaker, 49, is a six-times Olympic participant, from the Los
Angeles Games he returned with team-silver, as he did at the WEG in
Aachen. In addition, Michael Whitaker got 3 gold medals (team), 5 silver medals (individual and team) and 3 bronze medals (individual and
team) at European Championships.
Altrenogest is a synthetic progestational agent and is belonging to the
group of 19-nor-testosterone-series (see emea.europa.eu).
In a first statement, Michael Whitaker said that obviously a groom had
mixed up the feed for the horse – obviously T ackeray had get the feed
which was destined for a mare.
It's interesting to see that outside Germany, nearly nobody has so much
interest in this case. Even the largest British equestrian magazine
shows this news two days later and does not come back on this theme.

Die ganze Angelegenheit war von
Beginn an ziemlich nebulös: Während des Turniers in Balve fand
man eine herrenlose Jacke, die in
einer T asche eine ebenso herrenlose Spritze beinhaltete.Seinerzeit
hatte FN-Generalsekretär Soenke
Lauterbach den Medien berichtet
“Als die Jacke auf dem Gelände
gefunden wurde, war ich zufällig
dabei. Wir suchten die T aschen
auf Hinweise nach dem Besitzer
ab und fanden die Spritze.”
Sofort wurden von Seiten der
deutschen FN von allen Pferden,
die Cameron Hanley in Balve dabei hatte, die Entnahme von Dopingproben angeordnet; diese
Proben wurden der FEI übersandt.
Cameron Hanley hatte zwar stets
beteuert, dass der Spritzenfund
nichts mit seinen nach Balve mitgenommenen Pferden zu tun hätte. Der Reiter hatte aber auf einen
Start beim CHIO Aachen verzichtet, da er in der gegenwärtigen Situation keine mediale Unruhe für
das irische T eam hervorrufen
wollte.
Am 10. Juli nun veröffentlichte der
für den Iren Cameron Hanley verantwortliche nationale irische Verband die Pressemitteilung der
FEI. Sie lautet - in unserer Übersetzung:

vom 11. bis 14. Juni im Zusammenhang mit dem FEI Medication

an der Fairness des Sports zu
vermeiden, ist jedoch lobenswert.”
Cameron Hanley always had
stated that this syringe would
have nothing to do with the horses
he rode in Balve, but he had delibereately refrained from starting
at the CHIO in Aachen, because
he didn't wanted to create too
much media disturbance to the
Irish team.
As the FEI announced on July
10th, all doping tests taken from
the horses of Irish rider Cameron
Hanley (after a syringe has been
found in his jacket at the Balve
competition) turned out to be
negative.
The whole matter was quite nebulous direct from the beginning:
During the competition in Balve,
an ownerless jacket was found and inside the jacket an also ownerless syringe. That time, the secretary general of the German FN,
Soenke Lauterbach, had told
press agencies “While the jacket
was found on the competition
ground, by pure chance I have
been present. We have searched
through all pockets for an information about the owner, and by this
we have found the syringe.”
On July 10th, the Irish Equestrian
Federation who is responsible for
the Irish rider Cameron Hanley,
announced the following press
statement of the FEI:

11 to 14 June in the framework of
the FEI Medication Control Programme (MCP) were tested and
have returned negative results.
“The FEI has acted in consistence

satisfied with this result,” said FEI
General Counsel Lisa Lazarus.
“While the outcome of this situation establishes that none of
Cameron Hanley’s horses competing at Balve were administered
prohibited substances, Mr Hanley
acted appropriately by stepping
aside from competition in Aachen
to avoid attracting unnecessary
attention to the Irish team. While it
is never a positive thing to discover a used syringe on competition grounds – the decision to
avoid competing to remove doubt
as to the perceived fairness of
competition should be commended.”

Kai Vorberg machte es wirklich
spannend gemacht. Von wegen
Start-Ziel-Sieg - bei König Kai,
dem zweifachen Weltmeister,
zweifachen Europameister und bis
heute sechsfachen Deutschen
Meister, hieß die Kalkulation: 2 +
2 + 3 = 1.
Und auch die neue Deutsche
Meisterin der Damen ist eine “alte
Bakannte”: Antje Hill, die nationale
Titelträgerin aus 2007, die von
Jessica Schmitz auf Arkansas
longiert wurde, hatte nach dem
Gewinn der T echnik und der heutigen Kür mit einer Note von 8,772
die “Nase vorn” vor ihrer Vereinskollegin aus Neuss, Simone Wiegele (ebenfalls von Jessica
Schmitz auf Arkansas longiert),
die mit einer Gesamtnote von
8,729 zum Vizemeistertitel voltigierte. Bronze ging an Anja Barwig (longiert von Alexander Hartl
auf Capuccino), die Weltmeisterin
von 2000 und Europameisterin
von 2005, die die erste Wertungsprüfung gewann, dann aber jeweils auf dem dritten Rang landete und die DM mit einer Note von
8,655 abschloß.
Der Mannschaftstitel ging einmal
mehr (zum insgesamt achten Mal)
an das T eam aus NeussGrimlinghausen, die sich mit
8,414 vor der Mannschaft der

competition, the title holder from
2007 secured the second gold
medal.
In the men’s competition, it was
thrilling up to the very last moment: Kai Vorberg didn’t had a
walk-over - for King Kai, the twotimes World Champion, two-times
European Champion und up to today six-times German National
Champion, the calculation was: 2
+ 2 + 3 = 1. Which means: he finished the first two tests in runnerup position and finished third in
the freestyle final, which added up
to a total score of 8,655. But it
was enough for the victory and
therefore the seventh national title
for Kai, who was lunged by
Kirsten Graf on the horse Sir
Bernhard RS. The silver medal
went on to the winner of the second test and today’s freestyle final, Gero Meyer. However, as he
finished fourth only in the first test,
his total score of 8,546 was not
enough for the highest spot on the
podium. Gero was lunged by Dr.
Silke Bartel on the horse Grand
Gaudino. Bronze was won by
Daniel Kaiser (lunged by Gerhard
Kluger on Merkur). Daniel finished
the tests with a total score of
8,469.
And also the new National Champion in the ladies’ competition is
wellknown since quite a while.
Antje Hill (lunged by Jessica
Schmidt on Arkansas), who
gained the national champion’s
title already in 2007, was a cut
above the rest. After having won
the technical program and today’s
freestyle final, Antje Hill gained a
total
score
of
8,772,
which secured her second national title ahead of her team-mate
from Neuss, Simone Wiegele
(which also was lunged by Jessica
Schmitz on Arkansas), who got a
result of 8,729, which meant the
silver medal. Bronze went on to
Anja Barwig (lunged by Alexander
Hartl on Capuccino). The World
Champion from 2000 and European Champion from 2005 had
won the first test this time, but finished third both in the technical
program and the freestyle final.
Anja finished with a result of
8,655.
The team competition once more
was won by the team from NeussGrimlinghausen. Their score of
8,414 was enough for their eigth
national title, ahead of the team
JRG Köln (8,406), who got silver.
The bronze medal went on to the
VV Ingelsberg with a score of
8,323.

“Es ist unglaublich” - das waren
die ersten Worte, die der 32jährige Niederländer Leopold van
Asten nach seinem Sieg im Großen Preis von Estoril hervor
brachte. Mit der 10-jährigen
Schimmelstute Santana B hatte
van Asten damit den höchstdotierten Großen Preis Europas gewonnen.

Nachdem es sage und schreibe
23 anstatt der üblichen 18 ReiterInnen in den zweiten Umlauf des
Großen Preises von Estoril
(gleichzeitig 6. Etappe der Global
Champions T our) geschafft hatten
(da man alle Nullfehlerritte in den
zweiten Umlauf übernommen hatte), so wurde die zweite von Frank
Rothenberger gebaute Runde
wirklich selektiv. Vier Starter
schafften es schlussendlich in’s
Stechen: Daniel Etter (SUI) mit
Admirable, die vor heimischer Kulisse antretende Luciana Diniz
(POR) mit As-T aro, die Schweizerin Clarissa Crotta mit West Side
und Leopold van Asten mit Santana B.
Etter als erster Starter im Stechen
vermeterte sich am dritten Hindernis so gründlich, dass Admi-
rable quasi durch das Hindernis
sprang, danach riss der Faden bei
den beiden - sie sammelten insgesamt 16 Strafpunkte, was Platz
4 bedeutete und immer noch mit
29.000 € belohnt wurde. Leopold
van Asten ließ es als zweiter Starter im Stechen ganz ruhig angehen - er ritt völlig auf Sicherheit
und nicht auf Zeit - Nullrunde in
44,06 Sekunden. Diese Zeit wäre
sicherlich noch zu knacken ……
dachte man. Clarissa Crotta war
zwar fast 4 Sekunden schneller,
ließ aber eine Stange fallen Rang zwei (was 81.000 € Preisgeld bedeutete). Luciana Diniz,
die bereits nach dem zweiten Umlauf mit standing ovations gefeiert
wurde, hatte als letzte Starterin im
Stechen zwar alles in der Hand,
kassierte aber zwei blöde Pechfehler - 51.000 Euro für den dritten
Platz waren aber immer noch ein
nettes Trostpflaster. Somit ging
der Sieg an Leopold van Asten,
der dafür ungeheure 136.000 Euro bekam (zum Vergleich: beim
Großen Preis von Aachen gibt es
für den Sieger 115.000 €).
Beste deutsche Reiterin war Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum, die mit
Checkmate nach 2 Abwürfen im 2.
Umlauf auf Rang neun landete, Uli
Kirchhoff und Carino - ebenfalls
nach zwei Klötzen in der zweiten
Runde - kamen auf Rang 11.
“It’s simply unbelievable” - these
were the first words which were
said by 32-year old Dutch showjumper Leopold van Asten after
the victory in the Grande Premio
de Estoril. With the 10 year old
grey mare Santana B, van Asten
secured the win in the highest lucrative Grand Prix of Europe.
After - believe it or not - 23 instead
of the usual 18 riders had managed to reach the second round of
the Grand Prix of Estoril, which
also was the sixth leg of the
Global Champions T our (because
all clear rounds were entitled to go
for the 2nd round). the course for
the second round, designed by
Frank Rothenberger, proved to be
really selective. At the end, four
riders managed to reach the jumpoff: Daniel Etter (SUI) with Admirable, Luciana Diniz, who is riding
for Portugal and was acclaimed at
home grounds with As-T aro,
Swiss Clarissa Crotta and West
Side and Leopold van Asten with
Santana B.
Etter, first to go in the jump-off,
had such a wrong distance to the
third fence that his horse more or
less jumped through the fence after this, they lost the plot and
collected 16 penalty points in total
- fourth place, but this rank at the
end was honoured with a pricemoney of 29.000 Euro. Leopold
van Asten as second to go took all
the time he needed. He showed a
safe, unhurried round - clear
round in the time of 44,06 seconds …. this, it was guessed,
could be beaten - or not? Clarissa
Crotta proved that the time was
not the problem - she was approx.
four seconds faster, but left one
on the floor, which meant the second place (and a pricemoney of
81.000 Euro). Luciana Diniz, who
already got a standing ovation after the second round, had all
chances, being the last to go in
the jump-off. But there was a bit of
bad luck - she had two fences
down, but 51.000 Euro for the
third place was a nice consolation.
Due to this, the victory went on to
Leopold van Asten, who got unbelievable 136.000 Euro (just for
comparison: the winner in the
Grand Prix of Aachen gets
115.000 Euro).
Best German rider was Meredith
Michaels-Beerbaum,
riding
Checkmate, who had two fences
down in the second round and finished on ninth place; Uli Kirchhoff
and Carino - who also left two on
the floor - finished eleventh.

Böser Sturz von Katharina Voelkel
Mannschaft Westfalens, Sieger im
Jahr 2008, kam heuer mit einem
Ergebnis von 153,8 Punkten auf
den zweiten Rang vor dem T eam
aus Hannover, die für ihr Ergebnis
von 162,6 mit Bronze belohnt
wurden.
Der Geländetag, wo neben den
ein- und zwei-Sterne CIC’s auch
die Sichtungsprüfung für Junioren
und Junge Reiter ausgetragen
wurden, wurde von einem schweren Sturz überschattet. Die 17jährige Katharina Voelkel wurde
nach einem Sturz mit San Tino an
Hindernis 16 in das Universitätsklinikum Hamburg-Eppendorf geflogen, wo ein Schädel-Hirn
Trauma diagnostiziert wurde und
die Reiterin in ein künstliches Koma versetzt wurde.
Vereinigung ebenso wie der Veranstalter bereits am T ag nach
dem Unfall vermeldeten, dass die
junge Amazone schon wieder aus
dem künstlichen Koma hätte geweckt werden können, so stellte
sich dies leider im Nachhinein als
eine Falschaussage heraus. Bis
zum Redkationsschluß (26. Juli)
befand sich die junge Reiterin
immer noch im künstlichen Koma.

It looked like the team-members

happened. 17-year old Katharina
Voelkel and San Tino had a fall at
fence no. 16, the rider was flown
to the university hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf. There, a craniocerebral injury was diagnosed and
Katharina Voelkel had to be
placed in an artificial coma.
There are different statements
concerning her state of health:
The German Equestrian Federation (FN) and the organizers
stated already one day after the
fall that the doctors in Hamburg
awoke Katharina out of the artificial coma; unfortunately, this
turned out to be a false statement.
Until our editorial deadline (July
26th), the young rider was still held
in the artificial coma.

Vereinigung mitteilt, ist von Seiten der FEI auch das dritte
Worldcup-Finale 2011 - das der
Dressurreiter - nach Leipzig
vergeben worden. Leipzig war
bereits als Ausrichter der
Worldcup-Finals Springen und
Fahren im Jahr 2011benannt

Die offizielle Pressemitteilung
der FN zitiert FN-Generalsekretär Sönke Lauterbach mit
den Worten ”Das hat es noch
nie gegeben, dass gleich drei
Weltcupfinals zeitgleich an einem Ort stattfinden. Ich bin überzeugt, dass diese Veranstaltung ein tolles Erlebnis wird."
Der
Cheforganisator
der
“Partner Pferd” in Leipzig, Volker Wulff, hatte sich bereits für
2009 für die zeitgleichen Finals bei der FEI beworden.
“Jetzt wird dieser Traum 2011
Wirklichkeit und eine ganze
Region freut sich darauf”, so
Volker Wulff.

the FEI had appointed Leipzig
to host also the third Worldcup
Final 2011 - the dressage final. Already some months’
ago, Leipzig was appointed to
host the 2011-finals showjumping and four-in-hand driving.
The official press statement of
the German FN quotes FNsecretary general Soenke Lauterbach as follows (translated
by the editors): “Never before,
three worldcup finals took place
at the same time at the same
place. I’m convinced that this
event will become an amazing
experience.”
Chief organizer of “Partner
Pferd” in Leipzig, Volker Wulff,
had already made a bid at the
FEI for three finals at the same
time for 2009. “Now this dream
will come true in 2011 and a
whole region is looking forward
to it”, said Wulff.

NRW-Innenminister Dr. Ingo Wolf das Bundestverdienstkreuz am Bande. Wolf bezeichnete die Trainerlegende als “eine der herausragenden
Persönlichkeiten des deutschen Sports.”
“Dr. Uwe Schulten-Baumer hat den nationalen und internationalen
Dressursport geprägt und damit einen bedeutenden Beitrag für den
Spitzensport und die Nachwuchsförderung geleistet”, so Dr. Ingo Wolf

Dr. Uwe Schulten-Baumer ist der erfolgreichste Dressurtrainer der Welt.
Die von ihm Trainierten - eine illustre Schar: angefangen von seinem
Sohn Uwe (Europameister und Vize-Weltmeister) und seiner T ochter
Alexa (gewann Goodwood) über Pia Laus, Margit Otto-Crepin und Heiner Schiergen (der bei ihm gelernt hat) bis zu seinen drei ultimativen
Star-Schülerinnen, der zweifachen Doppel-Olympiasiegerin Nicole
Uphoff, der erfolgreichsten Dressurreiterin der Welt, Isabell Werth und
der Vize-Europameisterin 2007, seiner Stieftochter Ellen.
Dr. Uwe Schulten-Baumer sen. was awarded with the German Federal
Cross of Merit by the northrhine-westfalien Minister of the Interior, Dr.
Ingo Wolf in Aachen. Wolf stated in his laudation that the legendary
dressage coach is “one of the outstanding personalities in German
sport”.
“Dr. Uwe Schulten-Baumer has shaped the national and international
dressage sport and by this he made an outstanding contribution to the
top sport and the encouraging of young talents”, the minister stated.
Dr. Uwe Schulten-Baumer is the most successful dressage coach of the
world: His students are a quite illustrious troop: it started with his son
Uwe (who was European and Vice-Worldchampion) and his daughter
Alexan (who won Goodwood), went on to Pia Laus, Margit Otto-Crepin
and Heiner Schiergen (who worked with him) and had it’s peak in the
success of the two-times double Olympic Champion Nicole Uphoff, the
most successful dresage rider of the world Isabell Werth and his current
master student, his stepdaughter Ellen, who is Vice-European Champion.

In der Begründung des Ministerpräsidenten steht “Mit dem
bayerischen Verdienstorden
werden all diejenigen geehrt,
die sich mit herausragenden
Leistungen um den Freistaat
Bayern und seine Bürgerinnen und Bürger verdient gemacht haben.”

Marcus Ehning: Glück im Doppelpack
Marcus im Glück: Erst heiratete der Weltranglisten-Erste der Springreiter am 24. Juni seine langjährige Lebensgefährtin, die zweifache Weltmeisterin der Voltigierer Nadia Zülow (die jetzt den Familiennamen ihres Gatten angenommen hat). Und am 16. Juli 2009 kam das erste gemeinsame Baby von Marcus und Nadia Ehning zur Welt,
Yula Ekatharina. Die Kleine wog bei der Geburt 3.520 Gramm und war 54 cm klein. Mutter und Kind sind wohlauf
(und auch der Vater zeigte sich von den Aufregungen schnell wieder relaxt).
Lucky Marcus: First the current No. 1 of the world ranking list married his long-time life partner Nadia Zülow (former two-times world champion vaulting) on June 24th (who took the family name of her husband at the wedding
ceremony). Then, on July 16th, 2009 the first baby of Nadia and Marcus Ehning was born, Yula Ekatharina. The
baby girl had 3.520 gram and was 54 cm at the date of birth. Both mother and baby are doing well (and also Marcus seemed to have relaxed shortly after.
Dibo zum dritten Mal Vater
Zum dritten Mal Eltern wurden Andreas und Susanna Dibowski zum dritten Mal Eltern. Der kleine Sohn des
Mannschafts-Weltmeisters und –Olympiasiegers heisst Kevin.
Already for the third time, Andreas and Susanna Dibowski are proud parents. The little baby boy of T eam-World
and Olympic Champion Andreas Dibowski is called Kevin.
Frank & Sara tied the knot
Am 18. Juli haben Vielseitigkeits-Mannschaftsolympiasieger und –Weltmeister Frank Ostholt und die schwedische
Vielseitigkeitsreiterin Sara Algotsson in Schweden geheiratet. Für die deutschen Freunde gab's eine rauschende
Party am darauffolgenden Wochenende in Warendorf.
On July 18th, T eam Olympic and World Champion Eventing Frank Ostholt and his girffriend, the Swedish eventing
rider Sara Algtosson, tied the knot in Sara's home country Sweden. For their German friends, there took place a
wedding party the following week-end in Warendorf.
Isabell being a "mum -to-be"
Ja, sie ist schwanger und freut sich zusammen mit Lebenspartner Wolfgang Urban. Dressur-Queen Isabell Werth hat
inmitten des ganzen Doping-Desasters doch noch einen Lichtblick. Und bei der Charity-Gala zu Gunsten der Christoffel-Blindenmission stand die werdende Mama erstmals wieder im Blitzlichtgewitter. Übrigens: dieses Mal war ihr Lebenspartner auch offiziell an ihrer Seite. Yes, she is pregnant and is happily awaiting her first baby together with her
life partner Wolfgang Urban: There is a gleam of hope for dressage queen Isabell Werth in this whole doping mess.
And at the Charity Gala for the benefit of the Christoffel mission for blind people, the mum-to-be was in the bulb of
flashlights for the first time after the doping issue came to daylight. By the way, her life partner was officially at her side
for the first time.

Der kleine Ort Hünxe am Niederrhein, schon stets bekannt für
große Dressurturniere und auch
viele Vielseitigkeiten, bewies mit
seinem ein- und zwei-Sterne CIC
am vergangenen Wochenende,
dass er sich mittlerweile auch als
Veranstalter von internationalen
Events berechtigt einen Namen
machen darf. Dirk Schrade und
Andrew Hoy konnten als Sieger
aus Hünxe abfahren.
Ein “ganz normaler” Reitverein am
Niederrhein, der RuFV Hünxe,
zeigte am Wochenende, was man
mit einem hochengagierten T eam
alles auf die Beine stellen kann.
Die internationalen ein- und zweiSterne-Prüfungen zogen ein größtenteils erstklassiges Starterfeld
an, welches gute Rahmenbedingungen vorfand. Gerade dem Geländetag mit einer anspruchsvollen, aber fairen Strecke (Parcoursdesigner: Karl-Heinz Nothofer) und einem Boden, der bis auf
ganz wenige Stellen dem Ekelwetter der letzten T age mit teilweise
sintflutartigen Regengüssen hervorragend getrotzt hatte, muß
man ein wirklich gutes Zeugnis
ausstellen. Auffallend waren die
riesengroßen
Starterfelder
in
Hünxe, bei denen man teilweise gerade in den kleineren Rahmenprüfungen - den Eindruck hatte,
dass die Kapazitätsgrenze hier
fast erreicht sei.
und T abasco allerdings im Springen einen Klotz erlaubten, siegte
Hoy mit seinem Dressurergebnis
(36,9) vor Ingrid Klimke / T abasco
(39,3) und der Niederländerin Merel Bloom mit Umberto, die die
Prüfung mit ihrem Dressurergebnis von 40,0 beendete.
CIC**
Der CIC** wurde zum Triumph
von Dirk Schrade. Schrade, der
mit zwei Pferden am Start war,
rangierte schlußendlich mit beiden
Pferden in den “top three”, nur
Anna Junkmann konnte sich noch
dazwischen schieben. Doch der
Reihe nach: Die nach der Dressur
mit einem Ergebnis von 43,1 führende Marina Köhncke und Secada sammelten im Gelände zwar
nur ein paar Zeitfehlerchen, traten
aber zum abschließenden Springen nicht mehr an.
Als Viertplatzierte nach der Dressur ging Anna Junkmann mit
Charlott (46,4) ins Gelände. Während Schrade mit Grand Amour
und Junkmann mit Charlott die
gesamte Prüfung mit ihrem Dressurergebnis beendeten und sich
somit die Plätze ein und zwei sicherten, sammelte Schrade mit
Enjoy Me im Springen noch vier
Fehlerpunkte, sein Endergebnis
von 49,0 bedeutete damit aber
Rang drei.
Die rheinischen Reiter hielten im
Rahmen des CIC** ihre Landesmeisterschaft ab - hier holte sich
der Zwölftplatzierte der Prüfung,
Dr. Konstantin Graf von Wengersky mit Vagabund mit einem
Ergebnis von 73,10 den Meistertitel.
Damit war der Weg frei für Dirk
Schrade, der sich nach der Dressur bereits mit Enjoy Me (45,0)
und Grand Amour (45,8) die Plätze zwei und drei als hervorragende Ausgangsbasis sichern konnte.

Den CIC* machten die Stars unter
sich aus: Andrew Hoy mit seinem
Nachwuchspferd Cheeky Calimbo
und Ingrid Klimke mit dem neunjährigen T abasco lieferten sich ein

Es kam in der zwei-SternePrüfung nur zu einem Sturz, der
richtig böse aussah, als nämlich
Maren Zell und Laureas an
Sprung 17 zu Boden gingen und
die Prüfung auch für kurze Zeit
unterbrochen werden musste; erfreulicherweise kamen Pferd und
Reiter ohne größere Blessuren
davon. Es sei zu erwähnen, dass
man allerdings weder der Strecke
noch dem Boden hier “Schuld” an
diesem Sturz geben kann; Augenzeugen berichten, der Absprung
habe einfach nicht gepasst.

winners.

took the victory with his dressage

40,0.

Luckily, both rider and horse overcame the fall without major injuries. It should be mentioned that in
this case, neither the course nor
the ground could be found ”guilty”
for the fall; as per spectators

distance wasn’t fitting.
