Orientierungsaufgabe zum Realschulabschluss Englisch 2005 Manuskript des Hörtextes A Little Boy’s Dream – Disneyland Walt Disney opened his first Disneyland in Anaheim, California in 1955. The park became a huge success. Today there are four classical Disney parks worldwide. But Disney, who lived from 1901 to 1966, never saw the others that followed. Walt Disney was born on December 5, 1901. He was the fourth son of Elias and Flora Disney. The father, Elias Disney, moved from place to place in order to earn money - with little success. He worked as a postman, farmer, carpenter, writer, and ticket inspector, but he never made any money. Poor living conditions probably made the father bitter. He was very hard and strict with his five children. He often beat them with a stick in order to discipline them. Most of Walt’s childhood years were unhappy, poor and bitter. But there was one period in which he was happy: When the boy was five years old, his father bought a farm near the small town of Marceline. The boy liked the life on the farm with its chickens, cows and horses. He particularly enjoyed caring for the animals. But what young Walt liked most was nearby Marceline. The peaceful and friendly little town was a wonderful new world for him. He was fascinated by the quiet and romantic charm of the place. These happy memories stayed with Walt for the rest of his life. When Walt Disney was 54 years old, he had become one of the most successful American businessmen. He could realize the dream of his childhood. In his Disneyland, Walt brought his memories of Marceline to life. He built Main Street as a copy of the main street in Marceline with its church, shops and railway station. Discipline and strictness were some other memories of Walt’s childhood days. The people who worked in Disneyland had to be “disciplined” and respectable. For Disney a respectable hairstyle and looks meant: no long hair or beard. He also wanted his workers to wear clean and tidy clothes. And smoking or drinking was not allowed during work. His workers used to make a joke about Walt Disney. They said that he wouldn’t get a job at Disneyland because he had a small beard, he was a chain-smoker and he used bad language.
