In 1974 a new home for South Australian football was born – “Football Park”. In its 40 year history from 1974 to 2013, Football Park was the scene of unparalleled dominance by the Port Adelaide Football Club. The Club’s drought breaking 1977 Premiership was the start of an amazing period of Premiership success for the Club. In 23 seasons from 1977 – 1999 Port Adelaide won a staggering 13 SANFL Premierships
at Football Park. It was this dominance that provided the platform for the Club’s ultimate rise into the national competition, the Australian Football league, in 1997. As the Club’s AFL home ground, Football Park played an instrumental part in the Club’s historic first AFL Premiership in 2004, including memorable finals games - none more so than the heart stopping victory over St Kilda in the 2004 Preliminary Final.
Football Park has played host to many memorable SANFL and AFL finals matches featuring Port Adelaide. Mighty reputations were built and the blood, sweat and tears were spilt of famous Port Adelaide names such as Cahill, Ebert, Cunningham, Williams, Wanganeen and Tredrea.
To mark the Club’s final season at Football Park, this superb limited edition memorabilia piece was commissioned by the Club. This piece is personally signed by all Premiership Captains and Coaches who so famously achieved the ultimate success over the Club’s 40 year journey at Football Park. Fittingly, it also features the replica Premiership flags of the Club’s historic
first Premiership at Football Park in 1977 as well as the Club’s crowning AFL Premiership success in 2004 - the symbolic bookends to a wonderful period of success for the Port Adelaide Football Club at Football Park.
