Jose Barbosa `01 Term: 2012-2015 Jose L. Barbosa is an Associate Principal Scientist at PepsiCo. He joined PepsiCo as a temporary employee with just an eight day contract in May 2001. Eleven years later, he is now a product developer for the North American Coffee Partnership (NACP). He joined the NACP after 3.5 years in the Cola Innovation team where he developed the Next Generation cola for Pepsi: Pepsi Next! As a product developer he is charged with developing safe, stable, legal and great tasting products globally. His work is literally sweet! He has worked on challenging projects like leading Mirinda Orange World Wide, ReLaunching KAS Grapefruit in Mexico, re-launching Schwip Schwap in Germany, and launching Pepsi Kick in Latin America. Jose graduated from Antilles High School in Ft. Buchanan, Puerto Rico in 1997 and received a Bachelors of Arts degree in Biology from Manhattanville College in 2001. In May 2013 he graduated with a Master’s degree in Food Science from Rutgers University. Jose has remained involved with Manhattanville via Power Dinners at the college and Open House panels, but more significantly by facilitating the placement of more than a handful of mville students in science positions at PepsiCo’s Research and Development campus. Some of his other extracurricular activities while with PepsiCo include Co-founding the Valhalla Volunteers Committee, leading the Hispanic/Latino employee resource group (ERG) Adelante, and achieving Competent Communicator (CC) status in Toastmasters, a non-profit organization that helps develop public speaking and leadership skills. “I am excited to have joined the Alumni Board in 2013 and look forward to working with Manhattanville to help rebuild their relationship with one of their corporate neighbors. I also look forward to creating new and exciting events for the Manhattanville Community.”
