Hardly anyone sits down on furniture and remains in that exact same
pose. It takes a while until the preferred seating position can be found
and there are also several markedly different “types” of “sitters”. The
“relaxed” individual loves to cross their legs in a multiplicity of variations. The “upright” individual, whose spine loves to be at an angle of
90 degrees. Or the “unconventional” individual, whose shoulders find
just the right support to allow them to switch comfortably between
sitting and reclining for hours by sitting with their legs on their thighs,
their pelvis displaced.
All our furniture is not simply designed to fit a standardised template,
rather is designed for real people to enable them to use all the degrees

“Furniture is first and foremost a customer
product, nothing more than tools for
a more pleasant life. The development
towards us spending ever more time
being seated, even though nature never
intended us to do so, places ever more
demands on us. I try to achieve improved
mobility and comfort with more functionality, while not putting the
traditional image of a seat into question.”

Kita has already written several books
on the philosophy of movement. His
attention is focused on the way we move
when we are seated. Many of his designs
are located in the Museum of Modern
Art, New York, in the Centre George
Pompidou, Paris and the Pinakothek der
Moderne, Munich.
“My work is shaped by the search for
expressive forms that, although being as
independent as possible, don‘t shove their
way to the fore (I live in Hamburg and
understatement has always been a virtue
of the Hansa, something I also appreciate
in design). I also strive to turn my designs
into durable products.”
Kita hat bereits mehrere Bücher über die
Philosophie der Bewegung verfasst. Sein
Augenmerk richtet sich auf die Bewegung
beim Sitzen. Viele seiner Entwürfe finden
sich im Museum of Modern Art, New
York, im Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris
und in der Pinakothek der Moderne,
München.
„Meine Arbeit ist geprägt durch die
Suche nach einer ausdrucksstarken
Form, die jedoch trotz größtmöglicher
Eigenständigkeit nicht in den Vordergrund
drängen sollte (ich lebe in Hamburg und
Understatement war schon immer eine
hanseatische Tugend, die ich auch im
Design schätze). Darüber hinaus ist es mir
ein Anliegen, dass meine Entwürfe zu
langlebigen Produkten werden.“

Joachim Nees will nicht ‚ins Blaue’ hinein
entwickeln, er will die Bedürfnisse des
Menschen in Möbel umsetzen. Dabei geht
er unverkrampft und sehr offen an Ideen
heran – seine Neugier hilft ihm dabei.
Im Focus seiner Arbeit hat er immer den
zukünftigen Nutzer: „Der und nur der
steht im Mittelpunkt meines Schaffens.
Der Mensch also ist das Maß, nicht nur
das Ergonomische.“
