The D-Routes 1 to 6 run from west to east, whilst the D-Routes 7 to 12
span from north to south, connecting them together. Initially launched
as “D-Netz”, the Radnetz Deutschland is part of the parcel of measures
introduced by the government as part of the “National Cycle Route Plan
2002 to 2012”. The Radnetz Deutschland sees the federal government
and the regional governments working together to achieve comprehensive standards and a high level of quality in cycling tourism.

The Radnetz Deutschland is an entity comprising twelve long-distance
cycle routes, which connect each of the regions in Germany to one
another. All of the D-Routes take you along existing long-distance cycle
paths and have been chosen so that the interesting starting points
and destinations of a bike ride can be easily linked together. As such,
you have the opportunity to plan a cycle tour on safe, comfortable
and relaxing paths, which combine several river or themed routes with
one another. The Radnetz Deutschland also exists to ensure the basic
quality and to further improve the routes over the coming years.
Ser vices, accommodation and tourist attractions from different tourist
cycle paths are connected together by the D-Routes, thus creating
new, comprehensive routes for cyclists.

motley culture and seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites await
you along the way.
The route begins in Vreden, taking you first through the flat, cultural
landscape of the Münsterland. The rolling hills of the Teutoburg Forest,
Weser Hills and Solling regions entice you with their surprising views
and picturesque towns. In Harz — where a little bit of climbing awaits —
it is the views of the region’s tree-bedecked hills that make the greatest
impression. From there, you traverse the Magdeburg Börde to the Elbe,
passing through the UNESCO World Heritage sites in Dessau-Roßlau and
the Lutherstadt Wittenberg, as well as the Middle Elbe biosphere
reserve. During your journey to Berlin, you will discover the Fläming

(Hauptstadtregion). Cycle along a flat
stretch, past Havelsee into the “Potsdam cultural landscape”, where lots of
interesting sights – including the
UNESCO World Heritage Site — await.
You then cycle over the Glienicke
“agent” bridge to Berlin; the capital city
is also explored solely on cycle paths. The key tourist attractions appear one after another along the route: it is almost as
if you were on an organised bike tour of the city. The route
then takes you along the Spree and back out into nature, to the
€ Müggelsee Lake.
A UNIQUE BIKE RIDE ACROSS GERMANY! With routes that lead you through the heart of nature, safe
navigability, a comprehensive network of cycle-friendly food outlets and accommodation, and service stations,
the D-Route 3 is setting trend-setting standards amongst Germany’s long distance cycle routes. Discover why Germany
is considered to be a true paradise amongst cyclists during your journey across 960 kilometres of fascinating
landscapes, welcoming villages and pulsating cities.

Gentle hills, vast
meadows and labyrinthine streams
await discovery together with historical
highlights on this
stretch of the journey, which has a difficulty level of easy to
medium. The Hermann Monument, the historical old town
of Detmold with its royal palace, numerous historical town
centres and magnificent gardens and monastery complexes
are representative of the diversity of the region.

Fläming. Wittenberg, which
has been shaped by the Reformation and is home to many of its
sites, represents the gateway to the
Fläming Heath. After a visit to Luther’s house, the
palace chapel and Melanchthon’s house, cyclists can
visit the Hoher Fläming Park with its dense deciduous
and conifer forests, clear brooks and hidden villages.
You then travel along easy paths, past medieval castles,
to reach the spa town of Bad Belzig.

The Lakes of OderSpree (Seenland Oder-Spree).
The route remains flat and
relaxed as it passes through the
magnificent lake landscape, until it reaches the foot of the
Northmarch Switzerland. In this delightful and diverse region
dominated by hills and mountains, the route can get somewhat
more difficult. The easy stretch through the Oderbruch river
landscape to the Oder, which joins with the D-Route 12 / OderNeiße cycle route to Küstrin-Kiez, is the recommended finale.

of the Harz Mountains, including some difficult
inclines, that can, however, be overcome at your own
pace. The reward is the expansive views across the
Harz foreland, where the UNESCO World Heritage Sites
in the Hanse and Imperial City of Goslar and Quedlinburg await. Besides the urban cultural highlights, you
can visit the Rammelsberg mine to find out about the
region’s 1,000-year-old mining
history “on site in the tunnel”.
Weser Hills (Weserbergland). Cyclists on this
part of the tour can expect idyllic valleys, intersected
by small rivers and streams, all encompassed in a typical sub-mountainous landscape. This leg of the journey, which is difficult only in the (rare)
inclines, leads cyclists to a section of
the D-Route 9 /Weser cycle route,
through towns with picturesque timber-framed houses and magnificent
Weser Renaissance buildings. Höxter
and Bevern are true jewels in the
crown here: Townhouses with timberframed frontages such as Bevern Castle
or Corvey Castle, with its almost
1,200-year-old westwork.
Münsterland. Spanning
from Vreden to Münster, this
part of the route takes you
through idyllic moors, heathlands and parks. This stretch of
the route is extremely diverse
and has a difficulty level of
easy. A visit to the bike city of
Münster is a real “must” for
dedicated cyclists, along with a visit to the “colleagues
in the saddle” on horseback during the autumn stallion
parades at the Warendorf stud.
