Mariazellerbahn

Transcrição

Mariazellerbahn
En route to the peak of the Ötscher
massif (alt: 1,893m) pastures, gorges
and waterfalls will delight you. At the
top, uninterrupted vistas of impenetrable
forests, Alpine meadows and flowerfilled landscapes await. The Vordere
Tormäuer and Hintere Tormäuer gorges
– carved out of the rock by the Erlauf
river – are a sight to behold. It’s also
easy to see why the Ötscherbachgräben is sometimes referred
to as Austria’s Grand Canyon.
Lakes and waterfalls. Popular destinations for hikers
and daytrippers include the marked paths on the romantic
Hochbärneck meadowland, the Erlaufsee lake and the
Erlaufstausee reservoir, as well as the Mirafall, Trefflingfall,
Lassingfall and Schleierfall waterfalls. Full of stalactites and
stalagmites, the Ötscher Tropfsteinhöhle caves are full of
mystery. Bizarre natural phenomena line the hiking trails,
and with any luck you might even find traces of an Ötscher
bear somewhere along the way.
Mariazeller Land
Summer sun and
winter wonders
Peppered with mountains, lakes and
rivers, and home to one of Europe’s
most popular pilgrimage churches:
the one-of-a-kind Mariazeller Land.
A picture-postcard old town. Broad
town houses fan out from the beautiful
basilica, which provides the focal point
of the main square with its three striking
towers. There is always something going
on in the heart of this little town of
1,500 people.
In the midst of a magical region. An area that provides
inspiration for all the senses in summer and in winter. Scale
the dizzy heights and take in the spectacular natural scenery
on a hike or from the saddle. Go for a dip in a crystal clear
mountain lake or grab your skis and head for the Bürgeralpe.
Set in the wonderfully tranquil haven
of the Ötscher-Tormäuer Nature Park,
right next to the Mariazellerbahn railway line, this hotel is steeped in turn of
the century charm. The hotel is certified
environmentally friendly.

The Dirndl valley
The traditional bright red Dirndl
fruits (also known as Kornelkirschen)
symbolise the incredible richness of
the Pielachtal valley.
From its beginnings just south of St. Pölten,
the Pielachtal valley stretches across gently
rolling hills, up into the Mostviertel Alps
and onto the Naturpark Ötscher-Tormäuer.
The picturesque Pielach is one of the most
unspoiled river landscapes in the whole
of Austria.
“Pielachtal olives”
The scarlet dirndl fruits grow on the southern slopes of the
valley on fruit bushes which bathe the area in a sea of yellow
blossoms in March. The sweet-and-sour dirndls are used in
countless delicious local specialities: juices, jams, schnapps,
chocolate, cakes and mouthwatering Pielachtal olives. The
stones are also used to make dirndl necklaces and warming
dirndl stone cushions.
