Bericht des Präsidenten
Dies wird nun mein
letzter Bericht als KlubPräsident sein, doch
möchte ich erwähnen,
dass ich auch weiterhin
als sogenannter “Alterspräsident” und Vorstand
des “Nominations &
Bylaw Komittee” wirken werde. Es war mir
eine absolute Ehre und ein grosses Privileg,
unseren Klub für neun Jahre leiten zu dürfen. Dafür möchte ich mich bei euch allen
bedanken, denn nur ihr habt es mir
ermöglicht! Ich werde stets die vielen positiven Eindrücke dieser Zeit in bester
Erinnerung behalten - und werde mich
bemühen, den damit verbundennen Stress
bald zu vergessen!
Zur Zeit dieses Berichts fand unsere Jahreshauptversammlung noch nicht statt, daher
kann ich unserem neuen Präsidenten noch
nicht gratulieren. Es freut mich aber zu berichten, dass wir einen Kandidaten für die
Position des Präsidenten in Karl Braun haben; Karl ist schon lange im Vorstand und
als Vize-Präsident tätig. Auch haben wir
zehn Kandidaten für die acht offenen Stellen im Vorstand; es freut mich, dass sich so
viele bereit finden, unseren Klub zu vertreten.
Es ist ziemlich zeitraubend, diese monatlichen Berichte zu schreiben, doch bin ich
mir vollkommen klar darüber, dass es meine
Pflicht als Präsident ist, unseren Vorstand
und auch alle Klubmitglieder über die
Affären des Klubs auf dem Laufenden zu
halten. Ich hoffe, das ist mir in den neun
Jahren als Präsident gut gelungen. In diesem
Zusammenhang möchte ich mich bei drei

besonderen Personen bedanken, die mir
geholfen haben, diese Berichte zusammen
zu stellen. Ein “Danke” an meine Tochter
Serena, die meine englischen Berichte editierte; und meine Frau Angela, die mitgeholfen hat meine Berichte von Englisch ins
Deutsche zu übersetzen. Einen besonderen
Dank an meinen guten Freund Günter
Gawantka, der sich dann in den letzten
Jahren freiwillig zur Verfügung stellte,
meine Berichte in Deutsch zu übersetzen,
um Angela zu entlasten! Danke, Günter, Du
bist ein wahrer Freund!
Ich habe es schon oft gesagt, will es aber
wiederholen: der Concordia Klub hat erstaunlich gutes Personal: von Peter, Ruth,
Andreas, Krista, Matt und Feona - bis zu
unserem Küchen- und Bedienungspersonal:
ihr habt immer gute Arbeit geleistet und wir
danken euch allen für eure Beiträge zum
Erfolg unseres Klubs.
Die Zeit wird kommen, ob wir es mögen
oder nicht, dass wir uns eines Tages mit
einem oder mehreren unserer deutschen
“Schwesterklubs ” vereinen müssen, um zu
vermeiden, das unsere Deutsche Identität
verloren geht. Aber das ist ein Thema für
die Zukunft.
Ich freue mich schon, viele von euch zum
Präsidenten-Ball am 26. März und zum

Mitglied dieses Klubs zu sein. Mein Dank
geht auch an August Popp, der mich überredet hatte, dem Vorstand beizutreten und
mich dann später als Kandidat für das Präsidentenamt aufstellen zu lassen. August: ich
hoffe, ich habe Dich nicht enttäuscht!

President’s Report
This will be my last report as President of
the Club, however you might still hear from
me in my capacity as Immediate Past
President and Chair of the Nominations &
Bylaws Committee. It has been an absolute
honour and a privilege to serve as Club
President these last nine years, and I thank
you all for making it possible. I shall always
cherish the many positive memories from
this time, and hopefully I’ll forget the stressful ones very soon!
As I write this report, our Annual Membership Meeting has not yet taken place, and so
I cannot yet congratulate a new President.
However, the good news is that we now
have a candidate for President in the person
of Karl Braun, a long-serving Board Member
who is presently our First Vice-President.
We also have ten candidates to fill the eight
positions open for election. This level of
participation is just wonderful!
Writing these monthly reports takes quite a
bit of time and effort, but I strongly believed
that, along with my duties of keeping the
Board fully informed about the Club’s
affairs, it was also my duty to keep the
Membership as informed as possible. I
hope I have accomplished this during my
time as President, and I would like to
express my gratitude to three special people
who have helped me produce these reports
for the past nine years. Thank-you to my
daughter, Serena, for editing the English
versions of these reports, and to my wife,
Angela, for translating my thoughts into
proper German. And for the last few years
my good friend, Günter Gawantka, has generously volunteered to help with the translations after hearing of Angela’s frustration
with my rusty German skills. Thank-you,
Günter, you are a true friend!
I have said this before, but I will say it again,
the Concordia Club is truly blessed with an
amazing staff: from Peter, Ruth, Andreas,
Matt, and Feona, to all of our outstanding
wait and kitchen staff, we are glad to have
you on board and we thank you for your
great contributions to the success of the
Concordia Club.
In time, whether we like it or not, we will
have to talk amalgamation with one or more
of our Sister Clubs to ensure that our
German heritage in this Region remains
strong. But that is another subject for another time.
I look forward to seeing many of you at the
Presidents Ball on March the 26th and
Bockbierfest on the 2nd of April.
To all of you my greatest thanks: you are
indeed a wonderful group of people, and I
am extremely proud to be a member of this
Club. And to August Popp, who persuaded
me to join the Board and then run for President: I hope I have not disappointed you!

Der Geschäftsführer berichtet
Facebook:
Schon seit geraumer Zeit
hat der Klub auch Präsenz
an Facebook und versucht
sich dort langsam eine
Gemeinde aufzubauen. Die
Sache mit Facebook hat
einen entscheidenden Vorteil: man kann jedermann
auf dem laufenden halten
und bleibt in ständigem Kontakt mit dem
interessierten Personenkreis. Werbung, wie
auch Verständigung, wird deshalb einfacher
und vor allem schneller. Versuchen Sie es
einmal, oder machen Sie mit: tippen Sie
einfach „Concordia“ als Suchbegriff bei
Facebook ein, dann finden Sie uns!!
Mitglieds-Rabatt
Manchmal passiert es, dass sich die Gemüter über den Mitgliedschafts-Rabatt erregen. Um Klarheit darüber zu schaffen, hier
sind die Regeln: Jedem bezahlten Mitglied
steht in der Schenke ein 15%iger Rabatt am
Essen, sowie an alkoholfreien Getränken zu.
Die Mitgliedskarte muss beim bestellen dem
Servierpersonal vorgelegt werden. Eine
Übergangsregelung am Jahresanfang besteht, wobei die alte Mitgliedskarte des
Vorjahres noch für 15 Tage Gültigkeit hat.
Der Rabatt gilt nicht für Veranstaltungen
und Zusammenkünfte in den Einzelzimmern, er ist für das normale Schenkegeschäft eingerichtet. Mehrere Gäste eines
Mitglieds können in den Genuß des Rabatts
kommen, wenn alles auf eine Rechnung
geht und diese von einem bzw. dem
Mitglied bezahlt wird. Der Discount gilt
auch für „take out orders“, also Essen
welches abgeholt wird. Der Discount gilt
ebenso an größeren, vertraglichen, Buchun-

gen sofern diese in der Schenke stattfinden
– also nicht für die Weinstube oder die Jägerstube, ganz gleichgültig ob alles auf eine
Rechnung oder einzeln bezahlt wird. Der
unterliegende Gendanke ist das tagtägliche
Schenke Geschäft auf dem laufenden zu halten bzw. zu beleben. Die Bankettzimmer,
also Wein- oder Jaegerstube werden in der
Regel immer für einen spezifischen Zweck
vermietet und das Preisgefüge ist dann
anders als das in der Schenke.
Von Zeit zu Zeit, je nach Jahreszeit und
anderen Umständen sind Sonderangebote
entweder ein- oder auch vom Rabatt ausgeschlossen! Generell sind sie zwar eingeschlossen, aber wir haben auch manchmal
Situationen, wo der Mitgliedsdiscount nicht
gilt, da der Preis in diesen Fällen dann
schon besonders extra niedrig gehalten ist.
Alkohol-Gesetzgebung und ihre Regeln
Wenn Sie denken, die Rabatt-Regeln verursachen Kopfschmerzen, dann habe ich ein
noch brisanteres Thema:
Ruth Rajna und ich hatten die Gelegenheit
bei einem Seminar über die Alkoholgesetzgebung und ihre Regeln beizuwohnen.
Eigentlich muss hierbei auch gesagt werden,
dass in meiner 30jährigen Karriere dies das
erste Mal ist, dass die AGCO ein Schulungsseminar veranstaltet, und das sogar in der
ganzen Provinz!! Hat man vielleicht endlich
begriffen, dass Schulung und Weiterbildung
vielleicht bessere Resultate bringt, wie Strafen und Gerichtstermine? Ich bin jedenfalls
erfreut, dass dieser Schritt von Seiten der
Aufsichtsbehörde gemacht wurde! Man
sollte den MPP’s dafür gratulieren.
Wie auch immer, gab es natürlich auch die
eine oder andere Überraschung. So zum
Beispiel:
• Man übernimmt automatisch die Verantwortung für eine Person, die betrunken zur
Tür hereinkommt
• Alkohol als Geschenk an eine andere Person z.B. als Geburtstagsgeschenk, darf nicht
in den Klub gebracht werden, auch wenn es
eingepackt ist!
• Aber: Alkohol der gerade vom Geschäft
eingekauft wurde (quasi auf dem Weg nach
Hause) und die Flasche noch in der Tüte ist,
darf unter dem Tisch „geparkt“ und wieder
mitgenommen werden!!!???
• Alkoholische Getränke dürfen nicht umsonst von der Geschäftsführung ausgegeben
werden. Selbst wenn es als „Wiedergutmachungsgetränk“ ausgegeben wird!! Kostenlose alkoholische Getränke sind verboten!
• Happy Hour: darf man zwar machen, aber
der Begriff darf nicht verwendet werden.
• Haus Policy: muß gut sichtbar angebracht
sein.
Es ist also unbedingt wichtig, dass wir
unseren Eingang immer im Auge behalten,
denn sollte eine unerwünschte Person es
durch „die Tür schaffen“ gibt es ernste
Probleme. Zwar funktioniert es manchmal,
wenn man diese Person höflich fragt, das
Gebäude wieder zu verlassen, aber das kann
auch ganz anders sein, und dann muss man
leider Hilfe von außen in Anspruch nehmen. Das bringt wiederum andere Unannehmlichkeiten mit sich. Um den Klub abzusichern muss natürlich alles schriftlich
belegt werden, denn sollte es zu Gericht gehen, hat man sonst keine andere Verteidigung.
Präsidenten Ball
Am 26. März findet wieder eine Galaveranstaltung im feierlichen Rahmen in unserer
Halle statt, bei der auch Sie mit dabei sein
sollten! Karten für diese Veranstaltung gibt
es im Klubbüro zum Preis von nur $40.- im
Vorverkauf. Karten am Tag der Veranstaltung , sowie an der Abendkasse kosten $45.Natürlich schließt dieser Preis eine schöne
Cocktailstunde, Häppchen, Vorspeise mit
Festessen und was noch so alles dazugehört
(Steuern), mit ein. Dunkler Anzug ist selbstverständlich erwünscht, denn zu diesem
würdigen Anlass erwarten wir allerhand geladene Gäste aus dem gesellschaftlichen
und öffentlichen Leben. Seien Sie auch mit
dabei genießen Sie, was der Klub so an kulturellem zu bieten hat. Jeder, der in den letzten Jahren mit dabei war, verbrachte ein
paar tolle Stunden in unserem Klub. Zum
Tanz spielt in diesem Jahr die Variations
Band! Ich will Sie nicht drängen, aber die
besten Plätze gleich zum Anfang, schieben
Sie deshalb diese Sache nicht auf die lange
Bank! Bereiten Sie dem Winter ein würdiges
Ende – denn der Frühling steht dann bestimmt vor der Tür!

Ostern

April – das ist wesentlich später als normalerweise!!. Der Klub wird um 12 Uhr
zum Brunch geöffnet sein und dann wieder
um 17 Uhr zum Buffet. Ein farbenfrohes
und leckeres Buffet mit großer Auswahl
wartet auf alle unsere Gäste!. Unser Küchenchef Andreas plant mal wieder was besonders schmackhaftes und farbenfreudiges!
Tischreservierungen nehmen wir gerne entgegen und unser Personal freut sich schon
heute auf ihren Besuch!
Preis pro Person ist $20.95 pro Person, Kinder zwischen 4 und 12 bezahlen die Hälfte.

In case you have never noticed.... the
Concordia Club is also on Facebook. To get
there is simple - with your browser navigate
to “Concordia” and voila, you have your
choices!! Concordia Club, Restaurant and
Farm are all available! You can participate
and you may even contribute to what's on
line, upload pictures from the club or partake in discussions and post news on these
sites for anyone to see!! Go try and visit
them all! Ultimately what will help the Club
as a whole is when our members and customers leave a positive review on these sites
– as this is read by other potential customers, particularly tourists who want a
taste of Waterloo county. Maybe you want to
participate!!! We certainly would appreciate
your effort very much!
Membership Discount and how it works
Every once in a while there seems to be a
great debate on whether the membership
discount applies or not, as we have different
scenarios and situations. To keep the record
straight here is our membership discount
policy:
All paid up members can enjoy a 15% discount on their food portion of their restaurant bill if they can provide their server with
a valid membership card. This discount also
applies to take out orders as long as a valid
membership card is shown when picking up
the order. There is also a 15 day grace period to January 15th every year where the old
membership card is still valid for the purpose of the discount.
This discount is not valid for banquets and
events held in either the Jaegerstube or the
Weinstube. It is meant for regular restaurant
use only. Multiple guests of a member can
enjoy the discount as well, providing it is on
one bill and the member pays the bill. The
discount is allowed for contract events held
in the Schenke, but not in the Weinstube or
Jaegerstube, regardless of how it is paid
(separate or on one bill).
The reason for this all is that the initial
thought of the discount is the idea to make
our restaurant attractive on a day to day basis for the membership at large. We do want
to attract regular members to utilize our
Schenke. Exempt from day one was the banquet type situation where a room is rented
for a particular purpose or reason, as pricing
generally is different and on a case to case
basis depending on the size and nature as
well as on the included services.
From time to time, depending on supplies
and circumstances, specials, features of the
day as well as special limited menus may
also not be available for the membership
discount, however this is usually an exception.
Liquor Laws
If you think the discounts make your head
spin then read on......recently Ruth Rajna
and I had the pleasure to attend an information session put on by the AGCO. In over 30
years this was actually the first time the
AGCO has been proactive by trying to educate hospitality industry workers and management!! Most certainly this was a worth
while effort on their part and they need to
be congratulated! After all, their approach is
to educate by knowledge and not to educate
by levying huge fines. However, with all the
information we also received some very surprising stuff. Some of it may even create
more confusion! For example:
• Do not let an intoxicated person through
the door – once on the premise they are
Concordia’s problem.
• Alcohol as a gift cannot be brought onto
the premises. This means also if someone
brings in a gift-wrapped wine bottle to be
given to the “birthday boy/girl” or as a raffle
gift, it is deemed “illegal liquor”!!!
•Alcohol just purchased at a LCBO store and
still wrapped in its bag by the purchaser can
be parked under the table and later taken
home (of course it cannot be opened etc)
• Free Drinks: also illegal – the club/management cannot provide a free alcoholic
drink to anyone! Even if it is to celebrate a
birthday or to compensate a customer for a
unusual long wait or a too salty meal.
•Happy Hour: although the practice is legal,
the term “happy hour” cannot be used!!!
•House Policy: should be posted for patrons
to see.
To monitor what goes on at the door is of
course our first defense. Once a person is
admitted and on the premise it becomes difficult to deal with it. Of course the person
may leave when asked to do so, but sometimes that may not be happening on a voluntary basis and the authorities have to be
called. Of course because we are a litigating
society everything needs to be documented
in writing. Cameras may also be in use at the
time. Written documentation and reports
are the order of the day!
President’s Ball
Do you have your tickets for this Club Gala
event already? If not, there is probably still
a good chance to get yours! After all, the
annual Presidents Ball ranks very high on
the list of special club events. We try to do
our utmost in culinary offerings and during
that evening many have the chance to speak
to local elected officials – and even if it is
only to say a friendly “hello”. Who knows,
sometimes it can come in handy when you
need help with whatever it may be, be it
Canadian pension, health care, snow plowing and much more! As snow and March
break was always a major stumbling block
in the past we have moved this event to the

end of March! We hope therefore to have a
greater attendance!
Ticket price is $ 40.- per person including
applicable taxes (the day of the event however they are $ 45.- ea.) This includes a
cocktail hour with a full spread of appetizers as well as a special gourmet dinner and
entertainment by the Variations. This event
is on March 26th! Winter should be almost
over – who knows maybe the snow will be
gone by then!!!
Friday Evening Buffet
Our Buffet on Friday evenings is doing very
well and I would like to take this opportunity to re-iterate this fact. We offer a wide
variety of choices, some German, some not
so German, but in order to keep everything
interesting and colorful we bring new choices into the rotation on a continuous basis.
Of course our customers have learned to
appreciate this and I guess that’s why we are
fairly successful with this evening as well.
For only $ 15.95 we offer a buffet featuring
some of our main staples on our menu.
Consider the fact that somewhere else you
pay at least that much for just the main
course! This price includes even the
dessert! Enjoy this with one of our seasonal
wine specials and you're set!! Make use of it
while it lasts.
Easter
Already today I would like to make you
aware that Easter is celebrated this year on
Sunday, April 24th. Again, as we have done
in the past, we will be having two seatings:
one at lunch, starting at noon and the other
for our supper buffet at 5pm. Both buffets
will be colorful, springlike and of course
delicious as usual. There is a small difference between them, as the lunch one is
more like a “brunch” type Easter Buffet,
while the evening one is a typical Easter
Smörgåsbord.. Chef Andreas and all his

cooks and kitchen helpers are planning to
make this event as outstanding as we’ve
seen in the past. There is no doubt in my
mind that it will be excellent! Table reservations can be made here in the club office.
The prices this year are: $ 20.95 per Person.
Children between 4 and 12 pay half price
and children under 4 are free. (Plus applicable taxes and gratuity)
Please make your reservations early!!
Current Special Promotions:
In addition to the daily specials we also
have currently a “draft beer promo” from
3pm through 5pm, Tuesdays until Fridays
where we offer two reduced draft beers! In
the current line up we feature Fuerstenberg
Pilsener as well as Rickards Dark for only $

We had our annual meeting in January. Thank you
to all those that came out and participated and provided very good feed back to our board. Remember
we are acting on your behalf, and we try to base all
our decisions on what is best for the choir and club.
Please keep in mind that we welcome your suggestions and feed back at any time of the year. The
board meets the first Wednesday of every month. So
if you were vacationing in the sun and missed the
meeting, we are open to questions at any time. Here

We had one director opening and would like to welcome aboard Ilse Gessner! We would like to take

Just a reminder that Andre Schilha updates the
address and phone listing, so if you had any
changes this year to let him know. Joe Liebel would
also like to send a reminder that he has the ‘Social
Memberships’ and would like to see each choir
member support this initiative and sell at least 2
each year. We continue to collect Zehrs tapes, so
keep shopping everybody! Even a few from each
person makes a difference. We had a vote to
increase our membership fee, which was not
passed, so I know everyone will continue to support all of our fund raising initiatives.
Fred Trautrim our treasurer would also like to
remind all members, that he is open and approachable at anytime for questions, as he realizes his
financial report is very lengthy and detailed at the
meeting. Alfred Kunz reported that we had a successful 2010 year, and he looks forward to ‘coaching’ us in 2011. Please remember rehearsal start
time is 7:15pm. and have your pencils ready!
Just a friendly reminder that our archivist Leo
Tucums would love to have your pictures or
brochures from any of this years choir events that
we attend. He is doing a great job in documenting
our yearly events, so please remember Leo when
you have your camera along this year.
Angelika Werner our new childrens choir director
gave us her first report, and she is very happy that
some more children have joined the choir and was
quite impressed with the childrens ability to learn
several German songs, even though many of them
don’t even know any German words. Kids are like
sponges, so keep up the good work Angelika! We
also want to congratulate our former children’s
choir director Claudia Nieminen and her husband
Michael, as they welcomed their 4th child, a baby
boy names Lukas. It was also suggested during
“Zum wohl und besten’ that we should have another ‘Fahrt ins bleu” or ‘Mystery Trip’. Its probably
been 10 years since we have done this trip, but the
board is willing to consider this for 2012. So if anyone is travelling this year within a 2 hour radius of
Kitchener and comes across a fun place we can go
to, please let us know and gather any brochures or
information to pass along to the board. Great Idea!
Correction: Annual Report-please note that I forgot
to mention that Danuta Grigaitis created the beautiful 50th anniversary book for the mixed choir. This
book will become part of our archives, and we want
to thank Danuta for all her time spent on documenting the 50th years of the mixed choir. I also
forgot to mention that many choir members got
together to sing for Kathe Matich’s 90th birthday,
and Liesel Pleutner. They were both long time
singers and former ‘sangerin des jahres”.

Practices have resumed again for 2011 and
we welcome any new dancers. Practices are
on Wednesday evenings and we welcome
anyone to just come out on a Wednesday to
check it out to see if they are interested in
joining. We are planning to learn a few new
dances this year to add to our repertoire of
dance sets.
We look forward to several events in 2011
like Trachtenfests, Heimatabends, multicultural events, Oktoberfest, and most excitingly the 23rd Gaufest in Orlando, Florida.
Hosted by the S.T.V. Maiglöckchen Verein,
Gaufest of the Gauverband Nordamerika
will take place from June 30 to July 3, 2011
at the Rosen Shingle Creek Resort and
Convention Center in the heart of the
Theme Park Capital. Several members of our
group will be participating at this event and
competing in the Adult Einzel Preisplattln.
Other Gaufest events include: Heimatabend
and Festabend dances, band, dinners, frühschoppen, Einzel and Gruppen competitions, etc. The hosting Verein has assembled
a great line-up of Bands from the US to
Germany: D’Waidler Musi from the Bayrischen Wald, Germany; Spitz from Orlando,
Florida; and Europa from Orlando, Florida.
As this is minutes from the many theme
parks and other attractions, several of us do
plan to stay a few extra nights to take in the
Florida attractions with family and fellow
dancers.
You don’t need to be part of a dance group
to attend and experience a Gaufest. Therefore, we’d like to provide others the information regarding Gaufest should you be interested in attending as well. More information can be found at the Gauverband

secure the discounted hotel rate, reservation
is required by April 1 by calling the hotel
directly. To take part in the different events
for the weekend, a Fest Ticket must be

events from Thursday, June 30 to Sunday,
July 3; Beer, Soda, Water at the different
dance evenings; Wine with the Saturday

Der Brieftraeger kam nicht und die Schulen
waren geschlossen! Die Senioren jedoch
trafen sich am Mittwoch den. 2. Februar, am
Tage des grossen Schneesturms, um 15 Uhr
in der Weinstube. Obwohl weniger Mitglieder als bei gutem Wetter kamen, verbrachten wir nach dem geschaeftlichem Teil
einen schoenen Nachmittag bei Kaffee und
Kuchen.
Wir besprachen wie wir das monatliche Programm fuer unsere Mitglieder und Gaeste
interessanter gestalten koennen. - Ueber das
Goethe-Institut in Toronto haben wir eine
Quelle gefunden fuer schoene Spielfilme in
deutscher Sprache mit englischen Untertiteln.
Von besonderem Interesse schienen lustige
und interessante Filme aus den Ende der
40’er bis 80’er Jahre. Vorgemerkt sind Filme
wie “Der Hauptmann von Koepenick”, “Die
grosse Freiheit” und “Emil und die Detektive” (zwar ein Erich Kaestner Kinderfilm,
aber doch mit Interesse fuer Erwachsene). Da ein 90 Minuten langer deutscher Spielfilm fuer viele Mitglieder und Gaeste fuer
einem Nachmittag zu lang ist, wuerden wir
nach 45 Minuten eine kurze Pause machen
und dann den zweiten Teil des Filmes fuer
Zuschauer die nach Hause gehen mussten,
noch einmal im naechsten Monat wiederholen.
Wieviel Interesse unter Mitgliedern an
deutschsprachigen Sielfilmen mit englischen Untertiteln besteht, ist natuerlich
unbekannt. Aber die Senioren bitten interessierte Klub-Mitglieder uns zu besuchen,
immer am ersten Mittwoch des Monats um
15 Uhr (3 p.m.) in der Weinstube. Die
naechsten Treffen sind also am Mittwoch
den 2. Maerz und am Mittwoch den 6.
April. Wenn reges Interesse an Filmnachmittagen besteht, koennten wir uns in der
Zukunft auch etwas frueher treffen, aber das
ist noch nicht entschieden. Fuer Fragen und
Tipps, besonders wer Zugang hat zu solchen
Filmen, bitte ruft mich an. Aber vorerst
Jahresversammlung & Wahl nicht vergessen:

who enjoyed Crazy ladies Night and made it
a great evening!!! It was wonderful to see so
many different costumes. Crazy Ladies

Sadly our Mardi Gras season comes to a
close with only one last event:
Closing Ceremonies
March 7th - Rosenmontag/Rose Monday at
8:11pm in the Schenke. During the evening
we will bury our Hoppeditz and there will
be Krapfen (donuts) to enjoy. Our Garde
girls will perform for your entertainment.

Garden Group
In the cold winter months, we had a few
presentations to remind us of the warmer
garden days ahead.
Zach Lamas came to inform us of how to
attract Butterflies and their important role
in our gardens and in nature. Our January
meeting was very informative and Zach and
his mother brought in many items to show
us this beautiful helpful creature. Well done
Zach.
Our February visitor was James Graham,
who spoke on Having Fun in our Gardens,
stories of easy and fun ways to improve our
techniques without resorting to costly store
and garden centre purchases. We can all use
money saving measures in today’s economy
and simply have fun in our gardens.
Canada Blooms is always an inspiration
and a showcase of new ideas. This year
interested gardeners will travel to Toronto
on Wednesday, March 16th with Great
Canadian bus tours. Bus pick up is either at
Tim Horton’s at Bridgeport St. and Weber St.
(8:45 a.m.) or at Pier One on Fairway Rd.
(9:00a.m.) You will need a confirmation
number from Edith and then you can phone
Great Canadian to make your payment. Let’s
hope for good weather.

Table Tennis Group
Dear Friends.
I want to take the opportunity, to welcome
some new and even younger members to the
table tennis group. Rolf Malthaner and son
Erik, we hope you two have a good time.
Soon we start our club tournament. We even
talked about starting a youth group, but I
think everybody can dream. One thing I
have to say, our Senior group has always a
good turn out on Tuesday mornings, and
here we have a new member too, Robert
Müller . He used to be a member a long time
ago. We extend a warmest welcome to him.
One thing is for sure, when you once know,
how to play Table Tennis, you never forget
it. It is one of the best sports, and you can
play it for a long time. Our group is living
proof of it. On Thursday night or on
Tuesday morning, you can see 4 or 5 members over the age of 80 playing Table tennis
and they are still playing pretty good. So if
some members think, they want to give it a
try, you are welcome to join us. We also welcome some younger members.

Ich möchte die Gelegenheit benützen einige
neue und sogar jüngere Mitglieder in der
Tischtennis Gruppe zu begrüssen. So, Rolf
Malthaner, wir heissen dich mit deinem
Sohn Erik herzlich willkommen. Bald wird
unser Klubturnament beginnen. Wir sprachen sogar, dass wir vieleicht eine Jugendgruppe ins Leben rufen können, man kann
ja träumen! Ich muss sagen dass unsere
Seniorengruppe auch gut besucht wird.
Auch hier konnten wir einen alten Freund
begrüssen. Robert Müller, der schon einmal
vor langer Zeit in der Gruppe war. Auch er
