Bericht des Präsidenten
Zuallererst möchte ich
mich bei allen Mitgliedern für das Vertrauen
bedanken, dass man mir
bei der Jahreshauptversammlung am 28. Februar entgegengebracht
hat. Es ist kaum zu glauben, wie schnell die Jahre vorbeigegangen sind
und das ich jetzt nach
der letzten Wahl, der
Präsident bin, der den
Klub am längsten in modernen Zeiten geleitet hat. Für eure Unterstützung bedanke ich
mich noch einmal aufs herzlichste und verspreche, dass ich auch weiterhin mein
Bestes tun werde, um euer Vertrauen zu verdienen.
Bei der Jahreshauptversammlung zeigten
wir beim Finanzbericht, dass unser Klub ein
sehr erfolgreiches Jahr 2009 hatte, wir sind
uns jedoch nicht sicher, was das Jahr 2010
bringen wird. Unseren finanziellen Erfolg
haben wir dem Oktoberfest zu verdanken,
denn wir sahen einen grossen Aufschwung
sowohl in Besucherzahl als auch im Verbrauch, vor allem in der Mitte der Woche.
Um sicher zu gehen, haben wir für das Jahr
2010 einen sehr frugalen Haushaltsplan zurecht gelegt, können ihn aber jederzeit verändern sollte es nötig sein. Lasst uns also
alle erfolgreich zusammen arbeiten für das
Wohl unseres Klubs.
Wie ihr dem Februar Nachrichtenblatt
entsehen könnt, stellten sich elf Kandidaten
zur Wahl des Vorstandes für 2010 auf, um
sieben Positionen zu füllen. Ich bin ganz
begeistert, dass sich so viele angeboten haben, um den Klub zu leiten und ich möchte

mich bei allen Kandidaten hiermit noch
einmal bedanken, die ihre Zeit und Energie
dem Klub zur Verfügung stellten. Ich hoffe,
dass dies in den kommenden Jahren wieder
der Fall sein wird, denn wir brauchen immer wieder frische Kräfte und neue Talente
für unseren Vorstand. Wer von euch es dieses Jahr nicht geschafft hat - seid nicht entmutigt, denn die Gelegenheit kommt jedes
Jahr wieder!
Herzlich willkommen Hans Malthaner Sr. ich freue mich schon mit dir zum Wohle des
Klubs zusammen zu arbeiten. Verabschieden müssen wir uns von Alan Joachim Nanders, der im vergangenen Jahr als 2. Sekretär
im Vorstand tätig war. Wir danken ihm für
seinen Dienst und wünschen ihm für die
Zukunft alles gute. Ebenfalls verabschieden
wir uns von Günter Jessat, der sein Amt als
Ombudsman niederlegte. Günter, vielen
Dank für die vielen Jahre die du geopfert
hast dem Klub zu dienen. Wir wünschen
auch dir alles Gute für die Zukunft. Wir
danken Horst Beyerle, der das Amt als
Ombudsman übernommen hat. Viel Arbeit
wird es hoffentlich für dich nicht geben.
Das Frühlingskonzert der Chöre findet am
Sonntag, den 2. Mai statt. In den vergangenen Jahren wurde dieses Konzert immer
mit Begeisterung aufgenommen und gut besucht. Unsere Chöre würden sich sehr freuen, auch dieses Jahr wieder eine volle Halle
zu sehen!
Bitte vergesst nicht, dass am Sonntag, den
25. April wieder die Farm-Säuberung im
Gange ist. Wir werden morgens um 9 Uhr
anfangen - aber auch schon früher, sollte es
gewünscht werden. Auch wenn ihr keinen
Campsite auf der Farm habt, freuen sich
unsere Camper immer, wenn sich viele
Helfer einstellen; wer ein paar Stunden Zeit
hat, bitte kommt zur Farm und helft mit.
Der Säuberungstag für den Klub ist am
Samstag, den 1. Mai. Es wird wie üblich den
ganzen Morgen Kaffe geben und zu Mittag
gibt es wieder eine Mahlzeit - so kommt alle
zum Klub und macht euch nützlich! Mein
Dank geht an alle, die schon in den vergangenen Jahren mitgeholfen haben und ich
hoffe, euch dieses Jahr wieder zu sehen.
Auch hoffe ich, viele von euch im Monat
Mai zu sehen, sei es auf der Farm oder im

President’s Report
My sincere thanks for the vote of confidence
at the Annual Meeting on Sunday, February
the 28th. I can hardly believe how the years
have flown by, and I am deeply humbled by
the realization that, with this last election, I
have become the Club’s longest serving
President in recent history. Thank you
again for your support, and I promise to do
my best to justify your continued faith in
me.
As we showed you at the Annual Meeting,
the Club had a great year in 2009, however,
we are not sure what 2010 will bring. Most
of our extra income this past year was due to
a successful Oktoberfest, where we saw
increases in both consumption and midweek attendance. To be on the safe side, we
have put together a very tight budget for
2010, though we will make any necessary
adjustments as the year progresses. Let’s all
keep working together to ensure that this
year will also end in the black for the
Concordia Club.
As you saw in the February bulletin, we had
eleven candidates running to fill seven posi-

tions. Such an enthusiastic showing is
absolutely outstanding, and I would like to
thank all of the candidates for being willing
to commit their time and energy to help
guide the Club into the future. It is my hope
that this trend will continue in the coming
years, as the Board can always use new talent. For those of you who didn’t make it
this year, please don’t be discouraged, as
there is always another year!
We welcome Hans Malthaner Sr. to the
Board, and I am looking forward to working
with him for the betterment of the Club. We
must also say goodbye to Alan Joachim
Nanders, who served this past year as 2nd
Secretary on the Board. We thank him for
his service, and wish him well in his future
endeavours. We also say goodby to Günter
Jessat who stepped back from his position
as our Ombudsman. Günter we thank you
for your many years of service and wish you
nothing but the best in the future. We welcome Horst Beyerle who has assumed the
position as Ombudsman.
Remember, Sunday, April the 25th, is Farm
Clean-Up Day. Even if you don’t have a
campsite, the campers could always use a
helping hand, so if you can spare the time,
please come on out.
Club Clean-up Day is Saturday, May the 1st,
starting at 9:00AM (or even earlier, if you
wish). It is always great fun and an enormous help to the Club. As always, coffee
will be served throughout the morning, and
of course we will feed you at noon, so please
join us. To all of you who have helped in
the past, your efforts are greatly appreciated,
and we hope to see you again this year.
Hopefully we will see many of you during
the month of May. Join us, either at the Club
or on the Farm.

The Choirs’ Spring Concert is scheduled for
Sunday, May the 2nd. Everyone who has
attended in the past has greatly enjoyed the
performance, and a full house would be

Änderung der Öffnungszeiten
Dienstags bis Freitags haben
wir die Öffnungszeiten der
Schenke von 17:30 Uhr um
eine halbe Stunde auf 17 Uhr
vorverlegt. Das ist vor allem
deshalb geschehen, weil viele
unserer Kunden gerne früh am
Abend erscheinen, da sie noch
etwas anderes vorhaben und
eben einfach schnell etwas essen wollen.
Außerdem haben wir neuerdings auch viele
Gäste von außerhalb der Stadt (auf Tagestouren),
die gerne etwas essen wollen, bevor sie nach
Hause fahren.

Vorverkauf der Oktoberfest Eintrittskarten
Es ist kaum zu glauben, das letztjährige
Oktoberfest liegt nur 6 Monate in der Vergangenheit und schon gehen die Karten für’s
nächste zum Verkauf. Am 5. Mai um 9 Uhr in der
Früh wird’s mal wieder so weit sein: Karten für
Oktoberfest 2010 sind ab diesem Zeitpunkt für
Mitglieder erhältlich! Nichtmitglieder kommen
eine Woche später zum Zug. Natürlich sind
Karten in diesem Jahr wieder “on line” an unserer Webseite, ab dem 13. Mai erhältlich.

Muttertag
Obwohl noch etwas vorzeitig, aber hauptsächlich um Reservierungs-
enttäuschungen vorzubeugen, möchten wir Sie
schon heute auf unsere beiden Muttertagsveranstaltungen am Sonntag, dem 9. Mai aufmerksam
machen. Viele Mitglieder treffen sich zu diesem
Anlass mit ihren Familien, um gemeinsam die
Mutter bzw. Mütter zu ehren. Zu diesem besonderen Anlass feiert dann die Familie gemeinsam
und das lässt dann auch so manches Mutterherz
viel höher schlagen! Man sieht das an den
strahlenden Gesichtern der Mütter!!
Wie schon gesagt, wir haben wieder zwei Veranstaltungen: die erste um 12 Uhr mittags und
die zweite um 17 Uhr. Unsere Küche plant schon
heute für ein erfolgreiches, farbenfrohes und
schmackhaftes Buffet. Jede Mutter, ganz gleich
ob jung oder alt bekommt gleich an der Tür eine
Blume von unserer neuen Miss Concordia überreicht. Unser Personal wird alle Anstrengungen
machen, diese zwei Veranstaltungen so perfekt
wie möglich zu gestalten. Bitte reservieren Sie
rechtzeitig. Preis pro Person ist wie im Vorjahr
nur $ 19.95, Kinder 4-12 - $ 8.50, Kleinkinder bis
4 Jahre sind frei! Machen Sie davon Gebrauch!!
Mitgliedsbeiträge
Unsere Mitgliederkartei zeigt immer noch
Außenstände, obwohl zwischenzeitlich schon
mal ein Mahnbrief herausging! Wir verstehen,
dass man so etwas ganz leicht vergessen kann
und schon manch einer glaubte, seinen Beitrag
entrichtet zu haben, obwohl dies gar nicht der
Fall war. So, wenn Sie sich nicht sicher sind,
schauen Sie doch bitte noch einmal nach, ob Sie
im Besitz einer 2010 Mitgliedskarte sind.
Andernfalls wäre es angebracht, sich um die
Erneuerung bzw. den Status der Mitgliedschaft
zu kümmern. Unser Büro gibt Ihnen darüber
gerne Auskunft! Sie können nur mit einer gültigen Mitgliedskarte in den Genuss der Mitgliedervorteile kommen! Spätbezahler müssen
leider ab dem 1. Mai eine zusätzliche Verwaltungsgebühr von $ 20.- entrichten. Um dies
zu vermeiden, mache ich Sie deshalb hiermit
nochmals darauf aufmerksam!
Unsere Satzungen erlauben in Härtefällen (z.B.
Arbeitslosigkeit, Krankheit usw.) einen Nachlass
bzw. Freistellung der Gebühr, jedoch entscheidet
in jedem Einzelfall der Hauptvorstand. Ein
Schreiben muß hierbei beim Vorstand eingehen.
Bürostunden des deutschen Generalkonsulats
im Concordia Club
Das deutsche Generalkonsulat aus Toronto wird
am 18. und 19. Mai Bürostunden-Sprechstunden
im Concordia Club abhalten. Hierbei können
Reisepassanträge gestellt werden, sowie auch
andere, generelle Konsularleistungen in
Anspruch genommen werden. Allerdings hat
man mir auch gesagt, dass Reisepassanträge nur
mit vorheriger terminlicher Vereinbarung gestellt
werden können. Das heißt, dass man sich telefonisch einen Termin für diese Sache in Toronto
einholen muss (416-642-2922) aber, trotzdem ist
das immer noch weit einfacher, als nach Toronto
zu reisen. Machen Sie also bitte von diesem einmaligen Angebot Gebrauch!!

As we have done for many years: on Easter
Sunday we offer a celebration buffet at lunch as
well as at 5pm!
Typically our extended Concordia members
make use of this opportunity to gather for a wonderful brunch buffet or evening buffet with their
respective families. Our Hall will be decorated
with the colours of spring and of course the buffet choices are exactly what many of you are
expecting on a day like this! Nothing short of
impressive is the motto. Chef Andreas and his
staff will be doing their best to please you all.
Just like in other years we have two seatings, one
at noon (with many brunch type items) and
another one at 5pm which will be more a
smörgåsbord buffet. Table reservations are available and our office staff are more than happy to

hours on Tuesdays – Fridays by 30 minutes from
5:30pm to 5:00 pm. This is to accommodate all of
our “early bird” customers who for one reason or

us that they would love to eat early as they still
have an hour and more going home.

Yes, it's hard to imagine, but we are getting ready
for Oktoberfest 2010! Just like any other year we
are starting with the advance ticket sales on
Wednesday, May 5th at 9am in the Club office.
(public sale date is Wednesday May 12th, 2010 at
9am).
Tuesday, Oct. 12th, 6pm-11pm: (Restaurant
only) (free admission with a donation to the
Food Bank)
We will hand out waiting numbers at 8am for the
people standing in line. This will give everybody
an opportunity to relax and take a seat in the
Schenke until their number is called. This is also
an opportunity to enjoy a nice breakfast and chat
with your friends! Once we call your waiting
number it's time to go to the office to obtain
your tickets just like it has been done in the past.

Brunch reservation! Therefore I would like to
make you all aware now that on May 9th, 2010
we will celebrate Mothers Day with a beautiful
brunch buffet as well as an equally beautiful
evening buffet startingat 5pm. This event, in
honour of all mothers, represents one of the
more important occasions in the annual line up
of club activities! It is always a pleasure to see
whole families come out to not only cherish
their mothers but also their grandmothers! There
is probably a sweet spot in every mother's heart
when she knows her loved ones all come together to celebrate together with her and “she” is the
center of attention! I have seen many proud and
gleaming grandmothers at these events, let me
tell you!
Tradition dictates that our Chef Andreas and all
his staff in the kitchen will make sure everyone
will have a culinary feast. Of course, as we have
done in the past: every mother regardless of age
will be presented with a flower at the door by our
new Miss Concordia. All of our staff will ensure
that everything on that day will be just perfect.
Price per person, just like last year will be $
19.95, children 4-12 pay $ 8.50 and children
under 4 are free! My advise is to book early- especially since the brunch sells out very quickly.
Membership Fees
Although we’ve sent out a “friendly reminder” to
all our unpaid members, we still have some
membership payments outstanding. It is understandable that many simply forget to remit their
annual dues while others assume they’ve paid
them already. In order to avoid the surprize of a
late payment fee of $ 20.- (which will kick in on
May 1st) it only makes sense to check your membership status. If you are not sure whether or not
you have paid, please check if you have a new
2010 membership card or call the club office for
further information. We’re always glad to confirm the status of your membership. Only with a
valid 2010 membership card you can receive and
enjoy the benefits we offer!! In some hardship
cases, our statues allow for some exemptions
from payment (illness, unemployment etc.).
However, these cases have to be decided by our
Board of Directors and require a letter.
Special clinic of the German Consulate General
As it has been practise in the last 2 years, the
German Consulate Toronto is holding special
temporary office hours in Kitchener a few times
a year. The next clinic is scheduled for May 18th
and 19th. Aside from regular consulat services,
they will also offer the opportunity to accept
passport applications!! This of course is much
easier than having to travel to Toronto!! I have
been told however that passport applications are
done by appointment only, therfore you will
have to give them a call (416-642-2922) and make
an appointment. These special office hours are
held at the Concordia Club of course!

Endlich haben wir den Winter hinter uns.
Unsere Tennissaison kann beginnen.

Our group is planning a spring trip. Henry

Concordia Bowlers
Well another bowling season is coming to
an end this month. Time sure flies by when
you are having fun. As I submit this report,
our Bowling Tournament has yet to take
place. I will report the results next month.
Last month, the bowlers lost one of our own,
Joe Stalzer. We would like to extend our
deepest sympathy to Maria and her family.
We will miss you Joe. Furthermore, many of
the bowlers have sustained injuries or have
been ill over the past several months. We
hope they will be able to return to us in the
fall. We wish Heinz and Gerda Nowak,
Heinz Neu, Karola Leuschner, and Reiner
Remers much health.

Einige unserer Mitglieder verweilen noch

Zum Tanz spielt die “Black Forest Band”.
An diesem Abend ist auch die Krönung der
neuen Miss Concordia 2010.

Auch plant die Frauengruppe einen Bustrip
nach Montreal im September 2010. Jeder ist

Outdoor Group
Although the weather seemed like spring,
Winterfest on March 7th was terrific.
Thanks to all those who attended, participated and or helped with this day. Breakfast
and lunch were great again, thanks to all the
chefs in the kitchen. Apparently, we ran out
of potato pancakes, we had such a good
turnout. The kids had a great time, and
thanks to those who brought out their
Argos, and snowmobiles, and to all who
helped with the games. Some of the kids on
the tug of war seemed a bit older this year,
right Steve and Nicole?

Garden Group
In February, Rowena Martin showed our
group a number of simple yet dramatic ways
to add flora and greenery into our homes covered cylinders, 3 glasses with lilies and
mahonia, a basket of greenery and flowers,
etc. Be creative, use common items, keep
items in groups, use all different sizes and
focus on your centre of interest. Some people were lucky enough to take a centre piece
home.
Our trip to the Stratford Garden Show gave
us a hint of spring. It wasn’t far, the weather was great and we all came back with
great ideas and maybe a few little purchases.
A number of items have been planned for
the spring months. In April, Charles
Robinson, a Master Gardener from Cambridge will present “Trees and Shrubs for
City Gardens”. In May, Pat Harris, from the
K-W Garden Club will be our guest speaker
(topic to be announced). Then in June, we
hope to take a garden tour of Floral and
Hardy Gardens on the other side of Connestoga Lake. Here we will be able to view
the gardens and also purchase plants for
sale. Elisabeth S. says it’s a wonderful garden.
Concordia Chöre
April is a quiet month for news. We sang at
Presidents’ Ball March 13. and are performing at the Transylvania Club “Choere
Abend” March 20, but as I have to submit
this early, so they haven’t happened yet.
Congratulations to our returning president,
Werner Schlueter, and all who were elected
onto the main club board. We know it’s a
huge commitment, and we look forward to
supporting you in this coming year.
I'm sure by now all the “snowbirds” have returned. So far we had only one minor snow
event, so maybe by the time you are reading
this, some spring tulips are poking through
the ground! And speaking of spring, the
choir is busy practicing for our “Spring
Concert” on May 2nd at 7:30 pm. The male,
mixed and children’s choir will be performing for your entertainment. Our theme is
“Aber dich gibt’s nur einmal für mich”! I’m
sure once again Dr. Alfred Kunz and the
children’s conductor Claudia Niemenen
have worked very hard to put a great program together, so we hope to see you there.

We hope to see everyone at the April meeting, ready to start a productive spring.
On a sad note, the gardeners and friends of
the Concordia Garden Group were deeply
saddened by the loss of long time gardener
Joe Stalzer, in March. His friendship, helpfulness and knowledge about plants will be
greatly missed. Our prayers and sympathy
go to his family at this difficult time.

Concordia Eisstock-Gruppe
Die Concordia Eisstockgruppe hat ihr Wintertraining in Verbindung mit der Kanadischen Eisstock Foederation in Acton seit
dem 26. Februar abgeschlossen. Alles wartet
auf die Schneeschmelze und warme Fruehlingswinde um die Bahnen auf unserem
Klubgelaende abzutrocknen. Nach einem
langen Winter ist jeder eifrig, wieder Zeit an
der frischen Luft zu verbringen.
Am 20. Februar wurde unsere Gruppe von
den Veranstaltern der “Schneehundetage”
der Stadt Waterloo engeladen, an diesem
Fest teilzunehmen. Am Waterloo Townsquare wurde eine Eisflaeche zur Verfuegung gestellt, auf der verschiedene Wintersportgruppen ihre Taetigkeit vorfuehren
konnten. Wir hatten eine Stunde Zeit unseren Sport vorzufuehren. Danach wurden
alle Zuschauer ermuntert selber den Stock
zu schiessen. Viele Kinder, Jugendliche und
Erwachsene hatten Spass daran und einige
zeigten ein wirkliches Talent. Hoffentlich
entwickelte sich daraus ein Interesse an
diesem Sport um neue Mitglieder in der
Gruppe und Klub zu werden.
Nochmals vielen Dank an alle Teilnehmer
und Schlachtenbummler fuer ihre Unterstuetzung.
Waterloo to participate in an event called
the “Ice-Dog-Days” at the Waterloo Town
Square.
During the duration of the event various
groups active in a wintersport were asked to
demonstrate their activity. We were one of
the lucky chosen ones and were accomodated on the ice pad. The demonstration lasted
an hour and afterwards onlookers and spectators were asked to participate and try out.
It was fun for a lot of kids and adults, where
some showed a real talent for the sport.
Hopefully we can get some new members
for the Eisstock Group and subsequently for
the club.

CONCORDIA EISSTOCK GROUP
The Concordia Eisstock Group has finished
it’s winter training in Acton in conjunction
with the Canadian Ice-Stock Federation as
of February 26.
Everyone is waiting for the snow to disappear from the lanes at the Club and warm
winds to dry the surface. After a long winter
the urge to spend time outside has gripped
everyone.
On February 20. our group was invited by
the events coordinator of the city of

then I would like to extend a hug "THANKYOU" to the Bowlers Group for inviting us
along to their Cosmic bowl evening. Again, we
had a great time with you!
On March 31st we held a blood donation event
at the Canadian Blood Donor’s Clinic in
Waterloo. Blood donations made on behalf of
the "Concordia Club Treffpunkt" were added
to our tally. At this time, I do not have the final
total, however if you haven’t ever donated
blood or it has been some time since you last
did, it is never too late to visit the clinic and

Wir trafen uns am 3. Maerz um 15 Uhr in der
Weinstube. Anwesend waren 16 Mitglieder,
sowie Ernst Klarners Tochter Roswitha. Unser
Treffen began mit der traurigen Nachricht des
ploetzlichen Todes am 24 Februar unseres
Kameraden und Freundes Jack Harfmann, der z.
Zt. mit seiner Gattin Ursula in der Dominikanischen Republik auf Urlaub war. Nach einer
besinnlichen Trauerminute, leitete unser
Praesident Fred Heix eine Unterhaltung in der
sich Mitglieder an Jack erinnerten, und es wurde
klar, dass wir ihn nie vergessen werden. Wie
empfohlen, werden die Senioren in Erinnerung
an Jack Harfmann eine Spende an die Children’s
Wish Foundation (Mennonite Central Committee) machen.
Wir verbrachten den Rest des Nachmittags
gemuetlich bei Kaffee und Kuchen, verabschiedeten uns kurz nach 16:30 Uhr, und treffen
uns wieder am Mittwoch den 7. April. Wie
immer sind neue Mitglieder willkommen. Besucht uns, immer am ersten Mittwoch um 3 Uhr!
