President’s Report
Besten Dank für eure
Unterstützung und euer
Vertrauen, dass ich für
ein weiteres Jahr euer
Präsident sein darf. Ich
werde mein Bestes
versuchen unseren Klub
für ein weiteres Jahr
erfolgreich zu erhalten.
Dieses Jahr haben wir
wieder grosse Auslagen. Ein grosser Teil
sind die Waschräume auf der Farm und die
Restaurierung unseres Klubgebäudes. Wenn
alles verläuft wie geplant, hoffen wir, dass
wir dieses Jahr, wie in unserem Haushaltsplan bei der Jahreshauptversammlung bekannt gegeben, wir doch noch mit Pluszahlen beenden können.

do my best for you as your President of our
Club for another year.
Wir müssen uns leider von Werner Schlüter
und Steve Richtaritch als Vorstandsmitglieder verabschieden. Ein grosses Dankeschön
für die Leistung die ihr beigetragen habt zur
Erhaltung unseres Klubs. Ein herzliches
willkommen den zwei neuen Vorstandsmitgliedern: Eckhard Michalski und Joe Liebel.
Die Ämter- und Komiteevorsitzende werden
in diesem Nachrichtenblatt auf der letzten
Seite bekannt gegeben. Inzwischen hatten
wir unseren Präsidentenball und ich hoffe,
dass ich viele von euch begrüssen durfte.
I would like to extend a warm welcome to
Eckhard Michalski and Joe Liebel, our
newest Members of the Concordia Board of
Directors. We are also sad to see Werner
Schlüter and Steve Richtaritch leave the
Board. I would like to extend my sincere
thanks for all the work you have done for
our Club, you will be missed.
The new Positions and Committee Chairs
on our Board will be published on the last
page in this Bulletin.
It is a big job and responsibility to run our
Club. With the help of our Board, our manager Peter, our banquet manager Ruth and
staff I hope we have another successful year.
In the upcoming year we face major expenses, including the building of the washrooms
on the Farm and the outside renovation of
our Club building. If everything goes as
planned in our Budget presented at the
annual meeting, we should still be in the
plus figures at year end.
Please don’t forget about the upcoming
events in our Club and support our Groups.

Der Geschäftsführer berichtet
Ostern
wie schon im der
letzten Ausgabe der
„Nachrichten“ angekündigt, bieten wir
zu Ostern wieder
unser beliebtes Osterbrunch Buffet zum
Mittag als auch das
Oster-Smorg gas bord
Buffet ab 17 Uhr am Ostersonntag, dem
8. April an. Ähnlich wie in den
Vorjahren, hat sich unsere Küche viel
Gedanken um die Vorbereitungen
gemacht, damit sich alle unsere Gäste
am Buffet erfreuen können. Wieder gibt
es eine große Auswahl an den verschiedensten Vorspeisen, Salaten. Natürlich auch eine tolle Selektion am
warmen Buffet und an Süßspeisen und
Nebenspeisen soll es ganz bestimmt
auch nicht fehlen. Das Buffet wird auch
in diesem Jahr wieder im Mittelpunkt
des Raumes stehen! Tisch Reservierungen gibt’s im Klubbüro. Der Preis in
diesem Jahr wird $ 21.50 pro Person
sein. Kinder zwischen 4 und 12 Jahren
bezahlen nur die Hälfte und Kinder bis
zu 4 Jahren sind kostenfrei. Zuzüglich

da feiert der Concordia Chor seine alljährliche „All Choirs Night“. Zwar ist es
kein Chorwettbewerb, aber manche der
Sänger vergleichen trotzdem gerne, was
so von den Gastchören geboten wird –
oft habe ich schon manches anerkennende Wort gehört und jedermann ist
stolz mit dabei zu sein. Zwar hatten wir
in den Vorjahren oft schon ein volles
Haus, aber in den letzten Jahren gab es
noch etwas Platz für den einen oder
anderen Zuschauer!
Bockbierfest
All Choirs Night
Dieses Jahr veranstaltet unsere Frauengruppe ihre Frühlingsveranstaltung, das
„Bockbierfest“ am 14. April in unserer
Halle. Nach den Wintermonaten ist es
natürlich auch eine vorzügliche Gelegenheit endlich mal wieder aus dem
Haus zu kommen, um mit Freunden
sein zu können und dabei einen gemütlichen Abend verbringen zu können.
Natürlich gibt es, wie in all den Vorjahren, das beliebte „Bockbier“ und dazu
servieren wir dann noch ein herzhaftes
deutsches Essen. Ja, es ist die Bockbierzeit, denn traditionsgemäß konnte das
früher nur in den Wintermonaten gebraut werden, derweil man damals noch
keine elektrischen Kühlanlagen hatte
und so mehr auf das Wetter angewiesen
war. Hinzu kam dann noch der Trick der
Mönche, sich etwas zusammenzubrauen, das einen höheren Nährwert hat,
und somit „schummelte“ man ein bisschen während der sonst so streng genommenen Fastenzeit.
Musik für Freunde des Chorgesanges
gibt’s mal wieder am 13. April – denn
Selbstverständlich schließt der Eintrittspreis von nur $ 26.- das Essen,

Kaffe mit ein, ebenso die Verkaufssteuern und das Bedienungsgeld. Machen Sie deshalb
von diesem günstigen Angebot Gebrauch – immerhin

Jahr! Zum Tanz spielen das Edelweiss
Trio, und die sorgen ganz bestimmt für
die richtige Stimmung. Seien sie mit
dabei!
Großreinemachen auf dem
Klubgelände
Seit einigen Jahren helfen viele unserer
Mitglieder beim alljährlichen Großreinemachen rund ums Klubgebäude
mit, damit das Gelände wieder in gutem
Zustand ist. Immerhin gibt es da viel
vom Winter aufzuräumen, denn viel
Laub und Abfall hat sich da so angeweht. Jedes Jahr kommen nahezu 50
Helfer mit Handschuhen, Schaufeln
und Rechen und melden sich bei unserem Präsidenten. Dieser verteilt dann
die Arbeit, damit auch alles von
geeigneten Kräften erledigt wird. Das
Datum für diese Aktion wird in diesem
Jahr Samstag, der 5. Mai um 8 Uhr in
der Früh sein. Dann geht’s los, denn
zum Mittag wollen wir fertig sein. Anschließend gibt’s dann ein gemeinsames
Mittagessen für all die freiwilligen Helfer. Sollten Sie also Zeit und Elan haben, Ihrem Klub ehrenamtlich zu helfen
und dabei einen wesentlichen Unterschied zu machen, dann bitte kommen

Ähnlich wie in den Vorjahren, verkaufen wir in Kürze die diesjährigen Oktoberfest Eintrittskarten. Am 9. Mai um 9
Uhr in der Früh wird’s mal wieder so

Karten für Firmen
diese werden nach dem selben Verfahren wie in den Vorjahren (von Fall zu
Fall) abgewickelt und hängen von der
Verfügbarkeit bzw. Nachfrage ab.
Frühlingsfest
Unsere Jugendgruppe, der „Treffpunkt“
veranstaltet ihr zweites „Frühlingsfest“
am Freitagabend, dem 4. Mai ab 20 Uhr.
Es spielen die KW Golden Keys.
Eintrittskarten sind im Klubbüro zu je $
10.- erhältlich. Ordentliche Kleidung ist
erwünscht!
Muttertag
Am 13. Mai ist es wieder soweit – der
Muttertag wird gefeiert, und das meistens mit der erweiterten Familie. Nach
unserem Erfolgsrezept: genau wie auch
in all den Vorjahren, wartet der Klub
mit einer entsprechend dekorierten
Halle und einem tollen Brunch Buffet
ab 12 Uhr Mittags oder auch zu einem
Abend Buffet ab 17 Uhr auf. Küchenchef Andreas und seine Mannschaft
haben den Speiseplan erstellt und ich
kann Ihnen schon heute verraten, dass
es wieder genau so gut sein wird, wie in
all den erfolgreichen Vorjahren! Es wird
eine riesige Auswahl von Vorspeisen,
Hauptspeisen und Nachspeisen an unserem Buffet geben. Sie werden ganz bestimmt nicht mit leerem Magen nach
Hause gehen, das garantiere ich Ihnen.
Vergessen Sie nicht, sich Ihre Plätze
rechtzeitig zu reservieren. Preise für
dieses Jahr: $ 21.50 pro Person. Kinder

In Sachen rückwirkender Besteuerung

der Renten zum Jahre 2005 habe ich
einen Muster-Beschwerde-Brief zur Verfügung, welchen Sie sich hier im Büro
abholen können um ihn dann angepasst
an Ihre Verhältnisse an verschiedene
Ämter und Minister der Bundesregierung schicken können. Selbstverständlich habe ich ebenso eine Adressenliste
beigefügt.
Sie können sich dies im Büro während
der Geschäftsstunden gerne kostenlos
abholen.

Easter Brunch and Dinner Buffet
On April 8th we celebrate “Easter” in
our Hall and for this family occasion we
feature two seatings: the first one at
lunch time and the second at 5pm. As
we have done in past years the lunch
event will be more a “brunch” while the
evening one will be more a typical
smorgasbord. Featured will be a large
variety of appetizers, salads, hot food as
well as an amazing array of desserts.
Food and Family will be again the focal
point of this event and our chef Andreas
will prepare a culinary feast for everyone. Table reservations can be made in
the club office. The prices this year are:

All Choirs night
this annual event takes place on April
13th , where not only our Choir, but visiting guest Choirs show some of their
repertoire. It’s not a competition, but
certainly has a bit of this element as
everyone attending can make comparisons. Over the years we had a packed
hall, but in the last few years there was
spare room for visitors. Join them if you
can – you will enjoy a few hours of
beautiful
entertainment
amongst
friends!
Bockbierfest
On April the 14th our Ladies Group
will hold their annual “Bockbeer Fest”
where Bockbier and a typical hearty
German meal will be served. This
evening is always a great opportunity
for every member to come out in the
spring and partake in the first social
event for the club.
The tradition of Bockbier goes back a
century or more as it could only be produced during the winter months,

during the brewing process. In addition
it was also a “legalistic” way during the
lenten season for the monks’ to nourish
their bodies with a beverage! Admission

Club Cleanup
every year we invite the membership at
large to help us at the annual spring
clean up around the club building and
along the club property. We have been
very blessed in the past with 50 or so
volunteers who show up with their
gloves, rakes and shovels to do a “hands
on” cleanup!
This years Club cleanup is scheduled
for May 5th starting at 8am. Again we
invite anyone who has time and energy
to contribute to the beautification of the
Concordia Club. YOU are definitely
needed and your contribution will make
a difference and is greatly appreciated.
Lunch and beverages will be provided.
Everyone will be home by 1:30 pm.

Mother’s Day
May 13th is Mother’s Day! Like we have
done in previous years, our Hall will be
decorated appropriately for this joyous
occasion and our fantastic Mother’s Day
buffet will be available on two seatings.
One at Noon and the second one at 5pm.
Chef Andreas has already completed his
food selection and let me tell you it will
be at least as good as last year! We guarantee, you will not be disappointed.

After the election on the annual membership meeting, Eckhard Michalski and Hans

numbers.
We hope we can prove to the members, they
made the right choice.
SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT
On March 1. 2012 around 9.00 PM, we
had an invited guest playing Table
Tennis when he suddenly collapsed during play and he was laying lifeless on the
floor. In the first few seconds, nobody
knew what was going on, or what to do,
but then the Table tennis group did
everything right to save the man’s life.
He had no pulse and he was not breathing. One person called 911 with his cell
phone and one person (Al Petracic) gave
him mouth to mouth resuscitation, until
the man started breathing again. After
about 10 minutes the ambulance arrived
and they took over. The emergency team
took him to the hospital where he is
slowly recovering. The ambulance team
told the Table tennis group, without the
quick response from some people, the
man would have died.
My point of the story is, we should have
more people with first aid training and I
will ask our manager to organize some
first aid seminars.

Hi all
We have been busy attending events and
doing some outings. We helped celebrate
Crazy Ladies Night with Mardis Gras group
and closing of Mardi Gras. Some of our
members were in attendance for Marchtoberfest and had a great time. March 2 we
were planning on going tubing at Chicopee
but that night was rained out. Saturday
March 24 is President’s Ball and Sunday
March 25 we will be bowling.
Friday May 4 we will be having our Fruehlingsfest dance, Music by Golden Keys.
Start time 8:00 pm. Tickets can be obtained
from Treff members or at the club. Our
meetings are the second Friday of every
month hope to see you all. Upcoming event
is Bockbierfest.

In unserer Sitzung am 7. März wurde mir
mitgeteilt, dass ich versäumt habe, dass am
14. April beim Bockbierfest die Wahl der
Miss Concordia stattfindet. Hiermit möchte
ich mich dafür entschuldigen.

Happy Easter to all! Now that most of the
cold weather is behind us we can look forward to the warm sunshine!!!
Our Karneval Group closed the 2011-2012
season with a well attended Maskenball/
Closing Evening February 18th! Most of
those participating came in costumes of all
different types. Thank you to those groups
who supported us including the Treffpunkt
(tourists), Campers and especially the
Bowlers Group who entertained us with
their special musical number! A big thank
you to all those who made the whole evening happen!!!! It was a perfect ending to our
season!
We appreciated everyone’s enthusiasm and
support throughout this past Karneval
Season and look forward to seeing you again
in November for our 2012-2013 Opening
Season.

Willkommen zum neuen Chor Bulletin!
Genauer gesagt, der neue Chor Bulletin
Schriftsteller ... Andre Schilha. Es gab
einige Veränderungen in der Rolle Choir
Board und ich werde das Bulletin von nun
an schreiben. Das größte Dankeschön gilt
Mary Mehnert. Sie hat das Bulletin für eine
lange Zeit geschrieben und hat einen fantastischen Job getan! Mary und Alfred Kuers
haben beschlossen, das Chor Board zu verlassen, um auf andere Herausforderungen
und spannende Dinge zu konzentrieren. Ein
weiteres großes Dankeschön an Alfred auch
für die Betreuung in so vielen Dingen!
Während ich dies schreibe merke ich, dass
Samstag, den 24. März Präsidenten-Ball ist,
gleich um die Ecke. Wie Sie dies lesen, es ist
eine Black Tie Affair und der gemischte
Chor singt.
Am Freitag, den 16. April ist unser berühmtes Saengerfest.
Am Samstag den 21. April besucht unser
Chor Oshawa. Es ist eine ganztägige Veranstaltung mit Konzert und Abendessen.
Wir besuchen die Loreley Heimat Singers
“Salute to Spring”-Ereignis. Club Loreley
wurde 1955 als Deutsch-Kanadischer Club
für die Region Durham gegründet.

Eine weitere spannende Veranstaltung ist
natürlich unser Frühlingskonzert. Diese
große Veranstaltung findet immer am ersten
Sonntag im Mai statt und dieses Jahr ist es
am 6. Mai um 19.30. Jeder ist herzlich eingeladen zusammen mit Gästen. Die Veranstaltung ist kostenlos, aber Spenden sind
immer willkommen! Unser Kinderchor hat
viel geübt und alle Chöre gemeinsam präsentieren einen unterhaltsamen Abend.

takes place the first Sunday in May and this
year it’s May 6, 7:30pm. Everyone is welcome to attend along with guests. The event

CONCORDIA CHOIRS
Welcome to the new choir bulletin! More
precisely, the new choir bulletin writer...
Andre Schilha. There have been some role
changes in the Choir Board and I will write
the bulletin from now on. The biggest thank
you is to Mary Mehnert. She has written the
bulletin for a long time and has done an
amazing job! Mary and Alfred Kuers have
decided to leave the choir board to move
onto other challenges and exciting things to
do. Another biggest thank you to Alfred also
for taking care of so many things!
As I am writing this, I realize that Saturday,
March 24th is President’s Ball, just around
the corner. As you are reading this - it’s a
black tie affair and the mixed choir will
sing.
Friday April 16th is our famous All Choirs
Night.
Saturday, April 21st our choir is visiting
Oshawa. It’s a full day event including concert and dinner. We are visiting the Loreley
Heimat Singers’ ‘Salute To Spring’ event.

March 14th we learned about balcony and
patio vegetable and flower gardening. This
is helpful to those now downsizing or even
for the cottage or trailer garden.
Maryanne Weiler, a Master Gardener, will
be speaking on the Evolution of a Garden on
Wed. April 11th, 7:30. Gardens do change
with lifestyles, fashion trends and perhaps
even climatic changes.
We hope at April’s meeting, we will be able
to organize a garden tour or nursery visit for
May. Perhaps a visit to Niagara Gardens or
to the RBG Lilac Tour. This will depend on
how our spring weather unfolds. May 9th is
the date to set aside for an outing.
A Guest Visit, once a year, is allowable for
those non-members who are interested.

Thanks to everyone who attended Winter
Carnival on March 4th. The bridge was
under about a metre of water, but now that
we have the emergency road in the back,
there was no problem getting in, and to the
Home on the Range.
Unfortunately, I think a lot of people stayed
away thinking access would be a problem.
Next up on our agenda, is our annual fishing
trip to Rice Lake. It will be held on the
weekend of May 11-13, and promises to be a
fun weekend for all! This is open to everyone, but your $10 Outdoor Group membership entitles you to a $25 discount. (Pretty
simple math) Please see our flyer for more

Soccer Group
The last time I wrote for the bulletin was at
the end of our 2011 outdoor season. I will
now try to catch you up on the events of our
off season.
As usual, Oktoberfest was a terrific week for
our group. Our players and managers look
forward to this as much as our games and
once again we would like to thank all who
helped out at our booth this past year.
We continued with our annual Christmas
brunch in early December and had our best
turnout yet. In early January we got together
for our AGM and our executive are now in
place and have already begun preparations
for the upcoming season. In February our
league AGM was held at Concordia Club
with members from all 19 teams getting
together to prepare for 2012.
Now that the worst of the winter is behind
us we now look forward to spring and our
first outdoor practice. We usually get together Sunday mornings in early April. If this
winter continues like it has we may have
one of our earliest outdoor practices ever.
Anyone who is interested in trying out for
the team (over 35 years of age), please contact me at 519-664-2674.

you all a Happy Easter!
Campers
Now that the calendar has switched from
winter to spring, the Campers are all looking
forward to getting out their rakes, and
preparing their campsites for the season
ahead.
A reminder to everyone that Farm cleanup
is on April 29th . This is the day that we do
spring cleaning, and maintenance on all the
“common areas” such as the pavilion, washrooms, open fields, etc., and not the day to
clean up your campsite.
All club members are welcome to come out,
since we all make use of the facilities. (If
you don’t, you should!)
Not much else to report on at this time,
other than to say the Campers Committee is
meeting regularly, and getting everything in
place for our summer events. A complete
calendar is available on the club website, in
the farm section, or you can pick up a wallet size calendar at the desk outside the
Schenke.
