Männer arbeiten im Schnee. Einer pfeift, und schleift ein Ohr zu, groß wie ein kleiner Tisch. Es gehört zu Papst Johannes Paul II., der in einer polnischen Fabrik für Dinosaurier und Gartenzwerge 14 Meter hoch nachgebildet wurde. “Figura” zeigt die absurde Seite der Papstverehrung: die Statue muss zum Transport zersägt werden, der Kopf wird mit einem Kran heruntergelassen, gehalten von einem gelben Gurt unter der Nase. Die Kamera folgt dem Schwertransporter durch Polen, der Kopf fährt durch Dörfer und Städte und kommt schließlich zum Ort seiner Bestimmung, einem Miniaturpark für sakrale Bauten, wo der Papst bald die Kirchen der Welt überragt.
Some men are working in the snow. One of them is whistling while he sands down an ear, as big as a small table. The ear belongs to Pope John Paul II, whose 14 meters tall replicate is built in a Polish factory for dinosaurs and garden gnomes. “Figura” sheds a light on the absurds aspects of worshipping the pope: the statue has to be sawn to pieces, the head is lowered by a crane and supported with a yellow strap under its nose. The camera follows the heavy duty transport throughout Poland, the head travels through villages and cities and finally arrives at its destination, a miniature park for religious buildings, where the pope will soon tower over the world’s churches.

Pope John Paul II must be beheaded for transport. This film documents the dismantling of the 14 m tall statue and its resurrection in a miniature park for religious builidings.
