ALTANO RED WINE
This Altano Douro red wine is made by the
Symington family, entirely from grapes grown
in their own vineyards, located along the
length of the Douro Valley of Northern
Portugal. The family is now into its fifth
generation of Douro winemakers, although its
involvement with the wines of the Douro can
be traced back 14 generations to the mid 17th
Century.

Este Altano Tinto é produzido pela família
Symington, inteiramente a partir de uvas das
suas próprias vinhas, distribuídas ao longo do
vale do Alto Douro. A família está na sua 5ª
geração como produtor de vinhos no Douro,
embora a sua ligação aos vinhos do Douro
atravesse 14 gerações, remontando a meados
do século XVII.

VINTAGE OVERVIEW
2009 was a challenging year in the Douro
Valley, characterized by much lower than
average rainfall through the agricultural year,
unstable weather during the spring and a
virtual absence of rain during the very hot
summer. However, given the family’s very
substantial vineyard holdings, it was possible
to select very good quality grapes, which were
vinified in state-of-the-art winemaking facilities,
under the watchful eye of the talented, skilled
team of winemakers.
O ano de 2009 no Douro caracterizou-se por
pluviosidade bastante abaixo da média ao
longo do ano agrícola, tempo instável durante
a Primavera e um Estio quente e seco, com
quase ausência de chuva. Estas condições
difíceis puderam ser ultrapassadas pela
possibilidade de escolha das melhores uvas,
de muito boa qualidade, a partir do apreciável
património de vinhas da família e também pela
tecnologia de ponta disponível na adega, sem
esquecer o talento e perícia da equipa de
enologia

Exclusively from Symington family owned
vineyards, principally located in the prime
Cima Corgo and Douro Superior (Vilariça)
sub-regions of the Douro Valley.
Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Tinta Barroca.
In stainless steel vats with pumping over and a
soft maceration at low temperatures (23-24C)
in order to extract colour and aromas, limiting
tannin extraction, resulting in an aromatic, full
and fruity, easy to drink wine.
Exclusivamente de Quintas da família
Symington, maioritariamente localizadas no
Cima Corgo e no Douro Superior (incluindo o
vale da Vilariça).
Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz e Tinta Barroca.
Em cubas de remontagem, onde se procura
uma maceração suave, a baixa temperatura
(22 – 24ºC), por forma a extrair cor e aroma e
a limitar a extracção de taninos, produzindo
um vinho aromático, bem frutado e apelativo.

American oak barrels of 400 litres.
The wine was bottled from December 2010.

(rockrose and lavender); full-bodied structure with fresh and assertive fruit
(plums and black cherries); spicy, peppery tones, all seamlessly held
together.

entre amigos. O Altano evidencia bem as suas origens, reflectindo na
perfeição o estilo duriense: generosa amplitude aromática de flora silvestre
(rosmaninho, esteva), estrutura possante com fruto fresco e assertivo
(ameixa preta, cereja), notas minerais, especiadas, tudo muito bem
conjugado num final de boca harmonioso e macio.
