Or What is the time? In sentence 2, the adjective taller is used to compare Christian’s height with Mary’s height. Na frase 2, o adjetivo mais alto é usado para comparar a altura de Christian com a de Maria. In sentence 3, the adjective tallest is used to compare Christian’s height with the height of the rest of the people in a house. It means that he is the tallest of this house. Na frase 3, o adjetivo mais alto é usado para comparar a altura de Christian com a altura do restante das pessoas de uma casa. Significa que ele é o mais alto da casa. The adjectives change in form to show comparison. See the table below: Os adjetivos mudam sua forma, quando são comparadas. Veja a tabela abaixo: Comparative Degree Superlative Degree Grau Comparativo Grau Superlativo Adjective + ER + than The + Adjective + EST Adjetivo + ER + que O(a) + Adjetivo + EST The comparative degree is used when two things are compared. The superlative is used when more than two things are compared. O grau comparativo é usado quando 2 coisas são comparadas. O superlativo é usado quando mais de duas coisas são comparadas. IRREGULAR Some adjectives are irregulars: Adjective Comparative Superlative good better the best bad worse the worst IRREGULAR Alguns adjetivos são irregulares: Adjetivo Comparativo Superlativo bom melhor o melhor mau pior o pior MORE THAN / THE MOST MAIS QUE / O MAIS When a word has more than 2 syllables, we don’t change the adjective’s form. We add MORE THAN for comparative or THE MOST for superlative. See the following examples: Quando uma palavra tem mais que 2 sílabas, nós não mudamos a forma do adjetivo. B A 13 B 10) Many / Much - quantifiers 10) Muitos / Muito - quantificadores MANY or MUCH MUITOS ou MUITO Much: for uncountable nouns (money, time, milk, etc.) Many: for countable nouns (bottles of milk, dollars, reais, minutes, etc.) Muito/Muita: para substantivos incontáveis (dinheiro, tempo, leite, etc) Muitos/ Muitas: para substantivos contáveis (garrafas de leite, dólares, reais, minutos, etc) Examples: How much money do you have? How many dollars do you have? Exemplos: Quanto dinheiro você tem? Quantos dólares você tem? Obs.: 'Money' is an uncountable noun because we cannot say "1 money, 2 moneys, etc." But we can count money in the sense that we can say, "1 dollar, 2 dollars, etc." But we are counting 'dollar', not 'money'. Obs:. But the name of the currency doesn’t change – we keep saying “reais”: ten reais, thirty reais, etc. See more examples: Para dizer os preços em Inglês, nós falamos o número primeiro e depois a moeda, como fazemos em Português. When is the World Cup? Used in interrogative sentences regarding about someone or people. WHO Exemplo: De onde você venho? Onde é a biblioteca? Usado para perguntar sobre as razões de algo.
