The gold-beater city of Schwabach, located in the middle of the
European metropolitan region of Nuremberg, is the southern partner of
the city axis Nuremberg-Fuerth-Erlangen-Schwabach and it also links
the metropolitan area and the southern Franconian administrative
districts. Significant for the city with its approx. 40,000 inhabitants is its
multifaceted and widely diversified economic structure which is
characterized throughout by medium-sized businesses. For centuries
now, gold leaf has been beaten in the city and today there are five
companies that still practice this traditional craftsmanship. Thus,
Schwabach is called the "European gold leaf capital".
Accessibility
An important site advantage is the excellent connection to the supra-regional highway and rail networks.
Within the urban area there are two junctions to federal freeway A6 Nuremberg – Heilbronn, by means of
which the city is connected to the south German freeway network. Moreover, two federal highways, the B2
and the B466, pass through the city. With its two train stations on the railroad line Nuremberg-Munich,
Schwabach has access to the railroad network of the regional transportation system of greater Nuremberg
(VGN) and it is also directly connected to the Intercity Express system from the central railway station in
Nuremberg. Schwabach itself has a city bus system which is adjusted according to the suburban train
schedule.
Quality of life between a metropolis and the countryside
In the past years Schwabach has proven itself to be a desirable place of residence. Simple evidence of this
are the continually growing population figures. In addition to attractive residential areas, the city’s flair and
transparency also contribute to this. Almost all types of schools are present on site in the city. Furthermore,
the universities in Nuremberg and Erlangen can be easily reached. Incidentally the residents of Schwabach
have the second highest purchasing power in the region, following that of the residents of Erlangen.
Custom-made industrial parks
The industrial zones of the city lie nearly without exception in the vicinity of the two freeway connections and
are completely developed. Worthy of particular emphasis here is the Industrial Park West located directly on
the freeway; it is especially suitable for the manufacturing industry.
Promotion of economic development and start-ups
The economic promotion agency is especially centered on the concerns and requirements of small to
medium-sized businesses. It looks after companies in matters involving settlement or re-location as well as
other plans. Above all, the city focuses on the promotion of the founding of new companies. This is the
purpose of the local start-up center SCHWUNG.
