INFORMATIONEN ZUM BACKWATER BLUES
Der "Backwater Blues" ist ein traditioneller Blues aus den USA. Im Text ist eine Überschwemmung mit den
unmittelbaren Folgen beschrieben. Eigentlich keine Seltenheit im Misissippi-Delta, stellte es früher den totalen
Existenzverlust da und die betroffenen Personen mussten wieder von ganz unten anfangen.
Interpretiert wurde dieser Blues von Bessie Smith in einer Aufnahme aus dem Jahre 1927, desweiteren von Big
Bill Broonzy sowie von Big Joe Williams im Jahr 1961.
Während der Solist improvisiert versucht der Chor ihn durch eine wechselnde Dynamik herauszufordern. Allen
Schmerz soll er Preis geben. Aber er wird gehalten durch den stabil begleitenden Chor, der ihm durch den Gesang
zu verstehen gibt: Wir sind für dich da! Du bist in deinem Schmerz nicht allein! Wir helfen dir, deine Verluste zu
ertragen und positiv in die Zukunft zu schauen. Aber heute teilen wir mit ganzem Herzen deine Trauer und deinen
Schmerz!
