sein Studium und seine heutige Tätigkeit als
biologischer Chemiker als Dozent und Forscher.

What are you doing today?
Emory University is a private institution of
higher learning located in Atlanta GA. With
an enrollment of approximately 6500 undergraduates, as well as 7000 graduate students
and professionals, Emory offers degree programs in liberal arts & science, law, business,
and medicine. The university has a strong
teaching and research record in the physical
and life sciences and is currently ranked in the
top 50 of US institutions of higher education.

und Verantwortlichkeiten?
Tell us more about your job and
responsabilities?
My faculty appointment involves classroom
teaching and running a research laboratory.
The teaching role covers both undergraduate
and graduate classes with anywhere from 5
to 120 students in the course. In the research
setting, my primary role is to supervise and
to mentor a team of ~10 undergraduate researchers, PhD candidates and postdoctoral
fellows, as well as to raise funds from federal,
state and private sources to support our research efforts.

What do you like most in your job?
The intellectual freedom to pursue my own
ideas in the research laboratory and the opportunity to interact with bright and endlessly
curious students on a daily basis.

Why did you study chemistry?
As a Chemielaborant, many of my questions
about the ongoing projects and chemistry behind them were dismissed based on the fact
that I did not have sufficient scientific knowledge. Returning to school and acquiring the
necessary proficiency seemed the logical thing
to fix the problem.

fulfill?
Passionate teachers, curiosity for chemistry,
and long hours of studying were critical to
success.
Welches Wissen und welche Kompetenzen aus dem Studium verwenden Sie
heute in Ihrem Berufsalltag?
Is there anything you learned during
your studies and still need in your daily
business?
Although I am teaching and conducting research in the area of biochemistry, all aspects
of chemistry and biology/biotechnology that I
was taught during my studies in Switzerland
remain an integral part of my daily professional activities.
