Você sabe por que as
tampas de bueiro
costumam ser
redondas?COM
m toda a certeza, você já
reparou que a maioria das tampas de bueiros costuma ser
redonda. O formato para elas já é tão comum aos nossos olhos,
que nem sequer pensamos porque ele foi escolhido para esse
item. Mas, então, por quê?
De acordo com um artigo de Erin McCarthy, do Mental Floss,
existem uma série de razões para a escolha da forma circular das
tampas dos bueiros. Segundo o que Larry Scheckel disse em seu
livro sobre várias perguntas e respostas sobre como as coisas
funcionam, os bueiros (e suas tampas, logicamente) são redondos
porque é a melhor forma de resistir à pressão do solo em torno
dele.
Além disso, ele diz que formas redondas são mais fáceis de
fabricar do que formatos quadrados ou retangulares. E, ainda,
como as tampas de bueiros são pesadas, sendo redondas torna
mais fácil para se deslocar de um lugar para outro, pois basta
rodá-las. O outro grande benefício da forma circular é que os
trabalhadores não precisam perder tempo alinhando-as na hora de
encaixar.
Porém, existe ainda um motivo ainda mais forte pelo qual a forma
redonda foi a escolhida. A razão é que essas tampas não caem no
buraco de jeito nenhum! Segundo Larry, todas as câmaras de
bueiro têm uma borda em torno do orifício para segurar a tampa, o
que significa que a abertura é sempre menor do que ela.
Dessa forma, por mais que se jogue a tampa de qualquer jeito
sobre a abertura, ela não vai cair — diferente do que acontece em
alguns bueiros de formatos diferentes ,como os retangulares ou
ovais, em que a tampa pode cair se for inserida na diagonal, por
exemplo.
