ISEP-DEE
Mestrado em Engenharia Electrotécnica e de Computadores
Proposta de Tese/Dissertação
Ano lectivo 2013/14
Título: Real-time Sun Exposure Monitorization using Smartphones
Summary
Description: Develop and android application that detects in real-time risky behaviors
regarding sun exposure by merging information from GPS location, UV radiation and
exposure time.
Workplan:
T1 – Definition of use cases: Identification of the situations suitable for this application.
As an example, one of the use cases that shall be consider is a user at a beach, which is
using the application to control the exposure time and receives regular updates/warnings
based
on
the
UV
radiation
levels
on
that
location.
T2 – Application functionalities: 1) use the GPS connection to determine location; 2)
webserver/website connection to collect the UV information; 3) determination of the
exposure time; merge location, UV and exposure time information in order to detect risky
behaviors; 4) Notify the user of a risky behavior in real-time.
T3 – Architecture Definition: The framework architecture will be designed according to
the defined use cases and functionalities, for instance if we will need a webserver to
collet the UV information or if we can collect it directly from a public website (e.g.
T4 – Acquisition of the UV information: In this task it must be implemented the
methodology to acquire and communicate the current UV information on a specific
location,
based
on
the
smartphone
GPS.
T5 – Layout Design: most of the layout design has already been done by IPATIMUP
(please take a look at \\tejo\ Public Documents\SunPet\IPATIMUP\ SunPet.pdf). This
task
should
run
in
close
cooperation
with
them.
T6 – Android App Implementation: Implement all the functionalities described on task
T2. Some of the implementation effort can be decreased by reusing functionalities
already implemented on previous FhP projects (e.g. reuse the GPS module from older
projects).
T7 –Evaluation Tests: Outdoor testing of the application, based on the use cases defined
on the task T1.
