Nas cidades consumimos a maior parte de
nossos recursos naturais, emitimos o grosso

modo como vivemos nas grandes cidades.
Isso sem falar que sustentabilidade é um leque
tão amplo de assuntos que pouquíssima gente
consegue entender que temas não verdinhos
como cidadania, direitos humanos, inclusão,
diversidade ou cultura de paz, entre tantas outras
“urbanices”, fazem parte desse intrincado – e fascinante – novo modo de enxergar a sociedade. E,
sim, são tão importantes quanto os outros para a
sustentabilidade planetária.
Uma mostra de cinema ambiental trazer
“cidades” como um tema próprio revela, no
entanto, que nem tudo está perdido. E quando
seleciona filmes que apontam não apenas um
futuro sombrio e violento nesses locais, não
obstante seus complexos desafios, aí sim a
coisa muda de figura. No lugar do medo, entra
a inspiração.
E são justamente exemplos pra lá de inspiradores que filmes como Rios Perdidos (Canadá,
2012), Detropia (EUA, 2011) e especialmente
Deus Salve o Verde (Itália, 2012) trazem ao
público nesta 2a Mostra Ecofalante de Cinema

a chamada Campanha de Erradicação de Invasões (CEI),
que, em 1971, removeu os barracos que ocupavam os arredores da então jovem Brasília. Tendo a Ceilândia como

A reflection on the 50 years of Brasilia, having as its main Nancy Araújo, Rosa Maria,
focus the discussion on the ongoing process of territorial Yuri Pierri
and social exclusion suffered by a considerable portion of
the population of the Federal District and Environs, and
of how these people reinstating the social order through
the daily routine. The departure point of this reflection is
the so called “Campaign for the eradication of Invasions
(ERC)” which, in 1971, removed the shacks which were
occupying the surroundings of the then young Brasilia. Using
the neighborhood of Ceilândia as historical reference, the
characters of the film live and witness the changes of the city.

limits of a waste management system and all

a film about seven women pioneers of garbage
scavenging in Brazil. Before the current and
controversial system of landing, they speak of

fazer uma simples pergunta: para onde foi
todo o lixo gerado diariamente pela população de mais de 20 milhões? Desde outubro
de 2008, por mais de dois anos, Wang Jiuliang, um fotógrafo independente, partiu em
uma jornada para visitar cerca de 500 lixões
em torno de Pequim em sua motocicleta. As

we need to ask a simple question: Where has all
the waste generated every day by the population
of over 20,000,000 gone? Since October
2008, for over two years, Wang Jiuliang, an
independent photographer, set off on a journey
of visiting nearly 500 dumps around Beijing, on
his motorcycle. The images and videos he took
completely crashed the beauty of Beijing in front
of us! Wang tells us through his “lens”: Beijing
has become a city besieged by waste!

Once upon a time, in almost every industrial city, countless
rivers flowed. We built houses along their banks. Our roads
hugged their curves. And their currents fed our mills and
factories. But as cities grew, we polluted rivers so much
that they became conduits for deadly waterborne diseases
like cholera, which was 19th century’s version of the Black
Plague. Our solution two centuries ago was to bury rivers
underground and merge them with sewer networks. Today,
under the city, they still flow, out of sight and out of mind…
until now. That’s because urban dwellers are on a quest to
reconnect with this denigrated natural world. Lost Rivers
takes us on an adventure down below and across the globe,
retracing the history of these lost urban rivers by plunging
into archival maps and going underground with clandestine
urban explorers. Could we see these rivers again? To find
the answer, we meet visionary urban thinkers, activists and
artists from around the world.

Houve um tempo, em quase todas as cidades industriais, em que inúmeros rios fluíam. Construímos casas
ao longo de suas margens. Nossas estradas abraçavam
suas curvas. E suas correntes alimentavam nossas usinas e fábricas. Mas, conforme as cidades cresceram, nós
poluímos tanto os rios que eles se tornaram veículos de
doenças mortais transmitidas pela água, como a cólera,
que era a Peste Negra do século XIX. Nossa solução há
dois séculos foi enterrar rios subterrâneos e fundi-los às
redes de esgoto. Hoje, sob a cidade, eles ainda fluem,
fora de vista e de nossas mente... até agora. Isso porque
os moradores urbanos estão em uma busca para se reconectar com o mundo natural denegrido. Rios Perdidos
nos leva em uma aventura abaixo da terra e através do
mundo, redescobrindo a história desses rios urbanos
perdidos ao mergulhar em mapas de arquivos e indo
ao subterrâneo com exploradores urbanos clandestinos.
Será possível vermos esses rios de novo? Para encontrar
a resposta, nos encontramos com visionários pensadores urbanos, ativistas e artistas de todo o mundo.
