R$ 20,00 [email protected] The mine has a total length of 800 meters, but only 119 meters are open to visitors. It was excavated by hand, without the use of explosives. Typically, a black man with experience in excavation would be brought from Africa to guide the work of other black men. The mothers would stay outside separating the gold from the mud, and they would not enter the mine. It was believed that the entry of women inside the mine would provoke the wrath of mother earth, which would cause the collapse of the mine. 92 Ouro Preto Guide Documento:Guia INGLES - OK.pdf;Página:93;Data:03 de Jul de 2014 13:55:44 Gold Mines Velha Mine (Mina Velha) Rua Santa Rita, 21 - Padre Faria.
