What and where did you study?
[RS] I studied psychology, sociology
and philosophy at the University of
Hamburg and the Academy of Fine
Arts in Hamburg.
Where did you work after graduation?
[RS] I worked in several hospitals
teaching nurses in psychology and
sociology and as a psychotherapist
in a medical practice. I played bass
The International Business School Alliance (IBSA), established in 2003, enables
international students from throughout the world to acquire a double degree,
i.e. two national master degrees, from those institutes of higher education which
are linked to the IBSA-consortium.
The Hochschule Bremen University of Applied Sciences and the other European partners of the IBSA in London, Valencia, Marseille and Moscow meet regularly
to exchange ideas and to discuss the curriculum and content of the master courses
in order to ensure academic consistency and quality.
The University of North Carolina Wilmington
(UNCW) is the first U.S. school to join the
alliance and the Cameron School of Business
of the UNCW is of strategic value to the IBSA
partnership. Their specialization in international finance is a further important area for international study in the master program. In fall
2007 four American students will begin their
full-time studies in the International Master of
Business Administration program at the International Graduate Center of the Hochschule
Bremen UAS.

Business are accredited by the Association to
Advance Collegiate Business Schools (AACSB).

and in January 2007, the new computer information systems building was opened for
classes, offering students in the College of Arts
and Sciences and the Cameron School of Business access to twenty-first century technology.

The aim of the IBSA program is to provide students with a learning experience that
matches business specialization with an international perspective and cultural awareness and sensitivity. There is a high demand for IBSA graduates who are equipped for
a career in management positions of all business areas with global issues that have
significant implications for decision-making processes and outcomes. Due to the new
UNCW partnership, international students are now also able to graduate with an
American MBA degree.

visited the „BLG“
In April 2007, Global Management
Students accompanied by Prof. Ulrich Rohr (Program Director) met
representatives of the BLG (Bremer
Lagerhaus Gesellschaft). As specialists for world trade they were
eager to learn how a traditional
German company answers to the
challenges of globalisation. The
BLG Logistics Group was reorganized in 1998. The former “Bremer Lagerhaus-Gesellschaft” successfully opened the
commercial horizon to become a strong and flexible partner for world trade. The
students from approximately twelve countries were deeply impressed by the flexible
organisation structures of the BLG. Some of them spontaneously confessed that they
would be attracted by the perspective to work for some time for the BLG for going
deeper in the concepts of a modern German logistic organisation.

The IGC is enhancing its Alumni
activities and support
The International Graduate Center is
currently starting to extent Alumni
activities with the goal of intensifying an
exchange between the university and
former students. Therefore all alumni
and present students of the IGC will
gain access to the Alumni internet-portal of the University of Applied Sciences
Bremen. In future the portal could be a
central forum for ideas and experiences
and would be most suitable for networking.
Furthermore the IGC Alumni Service
would like to
• support graduates in entering into
professional-life and offer internship
possibilities with local companies,
• regularly provide graduates with the
latest news of the Graduate School
and host meetings and workshops
• improve the service for and support of
international applicants by building
up a network of „Representatives“ as
a first contact person in their home
countries.

Expertenseminar an der Hochschule Bremen
Globalization and the EU: How Europe fights globalwarming, saves jobs and protects social security
(Nov. 30 – 1. Dez. 2007)
Die vielfältigen Auswirkungen der Globalisierung stellen
Europa und die EU vor immer neue Herausforderungen. Im
Mittelpunkt des Expertenseminars (30.11.– 1.12. 07) an der
Hochschule Bremen steht die Frage, ob es der EU gelingt,
effektive Steuerungsmodelle zu entwickeln und mit ihren
Vorschlägen nachhaltig zu wirken. Internationale Experten
und Praktiker werden anhand der Beispiele Klimaschutz und Soziale Sicherheit konkrete Beispiele diskutieren und Anregungen für zukunftsorientierte Lösungsansätze
geben. Das Expertenseminar macht Projekte und Ideen sichtbar und stellt Akteure
aus dem Bremer Raum vor.
Das Seminar wird gemeinsam vom International Office der Hochschule Bremen, dem
Zentralen Alumni Service und dem International Graduate Center der Hochschule
Bremen organisiert Die Hochschule Bremen wird ihren Absolventen in Zukunft öfter
fachwissenschaftliche Fortbildungen anbieten und hat für dieses Seminar eine Förderung vom DAAD im Rahmen von Alumni Plus erhalten.
Am ersten Tag stehen der Klimawandel und seine Folgen für die europäische Politik und Wirtschaft im Mittelpunkt. Die EU hat sich ehrgeizige Ziele gesetzt. Unternehmen und Institute haben erkannt, welches Potential erneuerbare Energien
bieten. Eine Exkursion in Zusammenarbeit mit der Windenergie-Agentur Bremerhaven-Bremen e.V. führt die Teilnehmer zu den Multibrid Offshore-Windkraftanlagen in Bremerhaven und zeigt, wie erfolgreich sich die boomende Branche
Umweltwirtschaft für den norddeutschen Raum entwickelt.
Der zweite Tag des Expertenseminars rückt Fragen der sozialen Sicherung in den
Vordergrund. Kann es in Europa gelingen, negative Folgen der Globalisierung regulierend abzufedern? Welche Chancen bietet das neue Konzept der Flexicurity, das
flexible Arbeitsbedingungen und Jobsicherheit verbinden will? Gelingt es, älteren
Arbeitnehmern und Migranten den Zugang zum Arbeitsmarkt zu öffnen und soziale Schranken abzubauen?
Das Seminar ist kostenfrei, die Teilnehmeranzahl aber begrenzt. Anmeldungen

Akkreditierung des berufsbegleitenden internationalen Studiengangs “Health and Social
Care Management” Master of Arts (M.A.)
Der berufsbegleitende internationale
Master-Studiengang Health and Social
Care Management (HSCM) der Hochschule Bremen ist im Juli 2007 von der
Zentralen Evaluations- und Akkreditierungsagentur Hannover (ZEVA) für seinen hohen Qualitätsstandard in Lehre
und Infrastruktur akkreditiert worden.
Dieses Studienangebot besteht seit
März 2006. Im März 2008 startet bereits der 3. Jahrgang ins Teilzeit-Studium. Zum Teilnehmerkreis gehören hauptsächlich Hochschulabsolventen aus den Fachgebieten der Gesundheits- und Pflegewissenschaften, Medizin, Sozial- und Wirtschaftswissenschaften. Eine knapp dreijährige EU-Förderung zum Aufbau des Studiengangs führte zu einer internationalen
Beteiligung von drei Partneruniversitäten in Slovenien, der Tschechischen Republik
und in Großbritannien. Das HSCM Studium umfasst insgesamt 15 Module. Davon
sind jeweils fünf Module als E-learning-Module und als Präsenz-Module konzipiert.
Weitere fünf Module sind für die Master Thesis vorgesehen. Die E-learning-Module
werden methodisch als Blended Learning mit Einführungs- und Abschlussveranstaltung im International Graduate Center angeboten. Diese Online-Module sind englischsprachig. Die Präsenz-Module werden kompakt über einen Zeitraum von 6 Tagen
gelehrt und können vom Arbeitgeber als Bildungsurlaub anerkannt werden. In den
ersten vier Semestern stehen die Module Gesundheitsökonomie, Organisationslehre,
Sozial- und Gesundheitspolitik in Europa, Research, Kosten- und Finanzmanagement,
Arbeits-, Sozial- und Gesundheitsrecht, Diversity Management, Entscheidungsmanagement und Human Ressource Management auf dem Curriculum. Zudem besteht
die Wahl zwischen Prozess- und Systemmanagement und Informationsmanagement.
Die Master Thesis bildet den Abschluss und steht bei den Studierenden in engem
Zusammenhang mit ihrer beruflichen Tätigkeit.
Das Studienentgelt beträgt 9.250,– Euro inklusive der Semesterbeiträge.
