Appetitanreger. Vor der EURO 2008
veranstalteten die Schweizer eine
Bergdorf-EM, passend in 2008 Metern Höhe. Eine Vorspeise, die am
25. Mai die Vertreter aus Spanien
gewannen – ausgerechnet Spanien,
was für ein Amuse-Gueule!
Das Turnier fand statt auf dem
Platz des FC Gspon. Der initiierte in
achtziger Jahren die Walliser Bergdorfmeisterschaft und machte damit aus der Not eine Tugend. Denn
der vereinseigene Platz liegt etwas
oberhalb des Weilers Gspon, der
zur Gemeinde Staldenried gehört,
ist im Übrigen nur über eine Seilbahn erreichbar und misst gerade
mal 60 x 30 m. Also müssen angepasste Regeln her: Maximal acht
Spieler pro Team tummeln sich auf
dem Feld, die Tore sind 5 x 2 m
groß und die Abseitsregel ist abgeschafft.
Und wenn die EURO 2008 schon
in die Schweiz kommt, was liegt
dann für den rührigen FC Gspon
näher, als die Fußballnationen
Europas ins Bergdorf zur EM einzuladen? Nichts natürlich – und so
geschieht es: Deutschland, Spanien,
Italien, Österreich, Frankreich,
Schweden, ja sogar die wenig alpinen Niederlande schicken je eine
Vereinsmannschaft aus der maximal siebten Liga des Landes in den
Wettbewerb, um als Bergdorf-Nationalmannschaft das eigene Land
würdig zu vertreten.
Apropos vertreten: Im fußballerischen Sinne kann der deutsche Beitrag des nahe Kulmbach beheimateten TSV Rugendorf nicht als Offenbarung gewertet werden. Allerdings hielten sich die tapferen
Franken am Tresen und auf der
Tanzfläche außerordentlich gut
und machten damit »Die drei Tage
von Gspon« zu einem legendären
Ereignis.
Und die Schweizer? Sie haben’s
zwar erfunden, aber sie schafften
es nicht ins Endspiel, sondern verschluckten sich im Halbfinale an
einem Schweden-Happen und
mussten sich mit dem 6:5 im Siebenmeterschießen »herauspenaltierten« 3. Platz zufriedengeben.
I
n noble restaurants one frequently enjoys little tit-bits as an
appetizer. And, prior to the
EURO 2008, the Swiss organized a
Mountain Village European Championships, befittingly at an altitude
of 2,008 metres above sea-level. A
little appetizer that was, on 25
May, won by Spain of all nations.
What a coincidence!
The tournament took place on the
pitch belonging to FC Gspon, a
club which had, in the 1980s, initiated the Valais Mountain Village
Championship and made a virtue
out of necessity. For the club pitch,
situated just above the hamlet of
Gspon, which belongs to the community of Staldenried, can only be
reached with the help of a cable
car and measures only 60 m x 30 m
– too confined for a normal eleven
versus eleven game. Thus the rules
had to be adapted to meet the circumstances: a maximum of eight
players per team; goals measuring
5 m x 2 m; and no off-side.
And when EURO 2008 comes to
Switzerland, it stands to reason
that the entrepreneurial FC Gspon
should hit upon the idea of inviting
the footballing nations of Europe
to their mountain village. Germany, Spain, Italy, Austria, France,
Sweden and even the less Alpine
Netherlands all sent a club team
from the seventh highest league in
their country to represent their
own land as a Mountain Village
National Team and to join the
Swiss in competition.
Apropos “represent” – from the
footballing point of view the German contribution from TSV Rugendorf near Kulmbach was not
exactly a revelation. However, the
brave Franconians cut an excellent
figure at the bar and on the dance
floor and made “the three days of
Gspon” into a legendary event no
matter what way you look at it.
An event that proved the first part
of a momentous double.
And the Swiss? Well they invented
the whole thing but they did not
make it to the final, failing to get
the better of Sweden in the semifinal and winning the match to decide third place on penalties.

l'appétit avant les entrées. En prélude à l'EURO 2008, les Suisses organisèrent un championnat d'Europe des villages de montagne, pour
faire bonne mesure, à 2008 mètres
d'altitude. Une entrée en matière
que les représentants de l'Espagne
remportèrent le 25 mai – nul autre
que l'Espagne, quel amuse-gueule !
Le tournoi se déroula sur le terrain
du FC Gspon, un club qui avait,
dans les années 80, lancé le championnat valaisan des villages de
montagne.
Le terrain du club se situe au-dessus du hameau de Gspon, sur la
commune de Staldenried, n’est accessible que par un téléphérique et
mesure tout juste 60 m sur 30.
Comme cette exiguïté aurait causé
trop de bousculades à onze contre
onze, il fallut modifier les règles :
au maximum huit joueurs par
équipe, les buts mesurent 5 m sur
2, et la règle du hors-jeu est supprimée.
Et comme la Suisse sert de cadre
à l’EURO 2008, quoi de plus évident pour le très actif FC Gspon
que d’inviter les autres nations européennes à disputer un championnat d’Europe ? L’Allemagne,
l’Espagne, l’Italie, l’Autriche, la
France, la Suède, et même les
Pays-Bas, peu suspects d’être un
pays alpin, envoient chacun une
équipe de club, évoluant tout au
plus en septième division, pour représenter dignement le pays et se
mesurer aux Helvètes.
Représenter, au sens large, car
d’un point de vue footballistique,
la prestation du FC Rugendorf, village situé non loin de Kulmbach,
ne fut vraiment pas une révélation.
Mais ces hardis Franconiens se distinguèrent d’autant mieux au bar
ou sur la piste de danse, faisant
ainsi de ces «Trois jours de Gspon »
un événement qui entrera dans la
légende.
Et les Suisses? Ils en avaient certes
eu l’idée, mais ils trébuchèrent en
demi-finales sur les Suédois et durent se contenter d’une troisième
place, au terme de la séance des
tirs au but.

Il torneo si è svolto sul campo sportivo del FC Gspon, un club che già
negli anni Ottanta si prese la briga
di organizzare i Campionati dei villaggi di montagna del Vallese, facendo di necessità virtù. Infatti il
campo sportivo di questa squadra
si trova appena al di sopra dello
stagno di Gspon, appartenente al
comune di Staldenried, è raggiungibile solo grazie a una funivia e
misura appena 60 x 30 m – insomma troppo piccolo per undici
contro undici. Ci vogliono quindi
regole adeguate a questo campo:
al massimo vi si affrontano otto
giocatori per squadra, le porte
hanno una dimensione di 5 x 2 m
ed è eliminata la regola del fuorigioco. E per una volta che gli EURO
2008 arrivano in Svizzera, che cosa
c’é di più naturale per il dinamico
FC Gspon di invitare agli Europei le
nazioni calcistiche d’Europa nel
loro villaggio di montagna? Germania, Spagna, Italia, Austria,
Francia, Svezia, persino la non propriamente alpina Olanda, ogni nazione invia alla competizione una
squadra di club proveniente al
massimo da una lega regionale,
per rappresentarla degnamente
come nazionale dei villaggi di montagna e anche per misurarsi con gli
elvetici.
A proposito di rappresentanza: il
contributo tedesco, in chiave calcistica, proveniente dal TSV Rugendorf nei pressi di Kulmbach in
Franconia non può essere considerato una rivelazione.
Gli svizzeri, pur avendoli inventati
non ce l’hanno fatta a giungere in
finale. In semifinale gli è andato di
traverso un boccone svedese e si
sono dovuti accontentare del terzo
posto conquistato solo ai rigori, col
dischetto collocato a soli sette
metri dalla porta.
