Museion Passage

Galerien sind in der Gegenwartskunst unverzichtbar. Deshalb hat das Museion vier Galerien, die
in Südtirol Gegenwartskunst betreuen (Antonella Cattani contemporary art, ES contem­porary
art gallery, Goethe Galerie, Galleria Leonardo) zu einer Ausstellung in die Museion Passage eingeladen. Die Galerien stellen im Erdgeschoss Künstlerinnen und Künstler vor, die diesseits und
jenseits der Landesgrenzen leben und in ihren Arbeiten un­terschiedliche Medien nutzen. Das
Spektrum der gezeigten Werke reicht von der Installation über die Fotografie bis zur Malerei.
Per la costruzione di un tessuto votato al contemporaneo anche l’impegno e il contributo
del­le gallerie è importante. Con questo spirito Museion ha invitato quattro gallerie altoatesine
a presentare un progetto a Museion Passage per una mostra di Natale. Antonella Cattani
contemporary art, ES contemporary art gallery, Galleria Goethe e Galleria Leonardo sono le
vivaci realtà altoatesine che nello spazio di Passage presentano una o più posizioni di artisti sia
dell’Alto Adige che da fuori regione. I lavori esposti utilizzano diversi media, dall’installa­zione
alla fotografia, fino alla pittura.
When it comes to promoting contemporary art in the local area, the work and involvement
of the area’s galleries is vital. With this in mind Museion has invited four galleries from the South
Tyrol area to present a project in Museion Passage, for a Christmas exhibition. The vi­brant local
galleries Antonella Cattani Contemporary Art, ES contemporary art gallery, Galleria Goethe,
and Galleria Leonardo are presenting one or more works by artists, both from the South Tyrol
area and further afield. The works feature a range of media, from installation to photography
to painting.

Mona Jas & Holger Friese
Anhand verschiedener Medien untersuchen die Künstlerin Mona Jas (Rheden, Niederlande, 1963) und der Künstler Holger Friese (Zweibrücken, Deutschland, 1968) die
Ansichten und Bilder, die das Künstlerdasein in der Gesellschaft dokumentieren. Die
Beiden stellen sich die Frage, welche Funktion Kunst noch hat, welche Darstellungsstrategien Künstler entwickeln sollten, um wahrgenommen zu werden und was sie
tun müssen, um zu überleben. Das Projekt KOD Künstler on demand entspringt der
Zusammenarbeit der beiden Kunstschaf­fenden: Fotos, Zeichnungen, Gemälde oder
Fragmente von Werken anderer Künstler aus der privaten Sammlung, die Holger Fries
im Laufe eines Jahres in Berlin zusammengetragen hat, werden hier den in Rot - und
Grüntönen gehaltenen von Mona Jas gegenüber gestellt, teilweise auch nur auf der
Basis einer einfachen Assonanz. Die Polarität der beiden Farben, die Jas verwendet,
verweisen auf den Leidensdruck des Künstlerdaseins im Spannungsfeld zwischen dem
Wunsch nach bürgerlicher Sicherheit und dem Willen, unabhängig zu sein.
Attraverso diversi media i due artisti Mona Jas (Rheden, Paesi Bassi, 1963) e Holger
Friese (Zweibrücken, Germania, 1968) indagano le immagini che documentano e
rappresentano l’essere artisti nella società. Gli artisti si chiedono quale funzione abbia
ancora l’arte e quali sono le strategie di rappresentazione che gli artisti si devono
inventare per essere percepiti e che cosa devono fare per sopravvivere. Il progetto
KOD Künstler on demand nasce dalla collaborazione tra i due artisti dove delle immagini dipinte - foto, disegni, dipinti o frammenti di lavori di altri artisti - provenienti
dalla collezione privata di Holger Friese collezionate nel corso di un anno a Berlino,
sono messe in relazione anche per semplice assonanza con dipinti sui toni del rosso e
del verde di Mona Jas. La polarità dei due colori di Jas fanno riferimento al travaglio
interiore dell’essere artista, mosso tra desiderio di sicurezza borghese e volontà di
indipendenza.
Using various media the two artists Mona Jas (Rheden, Netherlands, 1963) and Holger
Frie­se (Zweibrücken, Germany, 1968) explore the images that document and represent what it means to be an artist in today’s society. The pair question what role art
can play and the strategies of representation that artists need to invent to be seen,
and what they need to do to survive. The project KOD Künstler on demand arose from
the partnership between the two artists: images – photos, drawings, paintings and
fragments of other artists’ works – from the private collection of Holger Friese gathered over a year in Berlin – are made to relate to red and green toned paintings by
Mona Jas, in some case purely through a question of harmo­ny. The polar relationship
between the two colours used by Jas evoke the interior struggle of the artist, torn between a bourgeois desire for security and the urge for independence.
