Sicilian Sayings
Handwriten on the walls we have some of the many Sicilian old fashion
sayings that nonno Vito, Marina and Gianluca’s great gran’dad, quoted all the
time. He was born in 1910 and lived to the lucky age of 98, needless to say
that he was a very old-fashioned Sicilian farmer:
Cu avi chiu’ sali conza a minestra
The ones with more salt should season the food
Carni fa’ carni, pani fa’ panza, vino fa’ danza
Meat makes meat, bread makes a belly, wine makes dance
In vino veritas
In wine lays the truth
Canta chi ti passa
Sing and your troubles will fade away
Ca mancia fa’ muddichi
Who eats leaves bread crumbs behind
