Director’s
Message
Welcome to the third issue of the
LOGOS Australian Centre for Hellenic
Language and Culture Newsletter. 2014
is going to be another fantastic year
regarding teaching, research and service
to the community. LOGOS will continue
developing online programs.
The Foundation for Hellenic
Studies and its great support
for LOGOS in the Great Debate!
The tertiary program in Modern Greek
is now available at Charles Darwin and
Griffith universities as well as South
Australia’s three universities, and also to
anyone else interested in studying Greek
online, nationally and internationally.
Once again we would like to sincerely
thank all our friends and generous
supporters. Without our supporters
LOGOS would not be the leading centre
of excellence we have become.

Almost 250 guests crowded the Adelaide
Pavilion on Thursday 7th November for
the South Australian Book Launch of “Call
me Emilios” by Justice Emilios Kyrou of
the Supreme Court of Victoria followed
by the Great Debate: Greeks do it Better.
Mr George Kapiniaris introduced the Hon
Greg Crafter AO, Chair of the Foundation
for Hellenic Studies; the Ambassador for
Greece His Excellency Haris Dafaranos;
and Michael Abbott AO QC as Moderator
for the Debate. The Negative team led by
Mr George Kapiniaris, the Hon Amanda
Vanstone and the Hon Tom Koutsantonis
staged a brave battle against the
Affirmative team led by the Hon Maria
Vamvakinou, the Hon Nick Xenophon and
Mr Costas “The Gardener” Georgiadis.
The Foundation’s own Supreme Court
comprising Chief Justice Chris Kourakis
of the Supreme Court of South Australia,
Justice Emilios Kyrou of the Supreme
Court of Victoria and the audience,
declared the affirmative team the
winners of the debate.
We are pleased to announce that
$20,000 from the evening was donated
to the Centre which will assist with the
development of the online national/
international programs.
LOGOS is extremely grateful to the
Foundation and particularly Mr Harry
Patsouris who worked tirelessly
and creatively to put together an
unforgettable night for South Australia.
