INSTRUÇÕES AOS AUTORES
DA FORMA E PREPARAÇÃO
DOS MANUSCRITOS
Os manuscritos devem ser submetidos em português ou
inglês para o email [email protected]. Devem ser
digitados em espaço duplo, fonte Times New Roman, tamanho 12,
com amplas margens (superior, inferior e laterais = 2,5 cm) em papel
A4 (21,0 x 29,7 cm), não ultrapassando 20 (vinte) páginas (incluindo
referências, figuras e tabelas).
FORMATO DOS ARQUIVOS
• Para o texto, usar editor de texto do tipo Microsoft Word
para Windows ou equivalente
• As figuras deverão estar nos formatos jpg ou tif.
O manuscrito deve ser montado na seguinte ordem, com
todas as páginas numeradas consecutivamente na margem superior
direita, começando da página de título (1ª folha).
- 1ª Folha (dados de identificação)
Página de Título. a) Título em português; b) Título em inglês; c)
nome completo dos autores (seguidos por números arábicos
sobrescritos, identificando suas instituições e separados por vírgulas;
d) nome, endereço completo e e-mail do autor principal para envio de
correspondência
- 2ª Folha
Após o Resumo, deve-se incluir, em folhas sequenciais, a
Introdução, Materiais e Métodos, Resultados, Discussão, Conclusão e
Referências, completos.
Introdução. Deve conter os objetivos da investigação, suas
relações com outros trabalhos da área e os motivos que levaram o(s)
autor(es) a empreender a pesquisa.
Materiais e Métodos. Deve ser escrita de modo a permitir
que o trabalho possa ser inteiramente repetido por outros
pesquisadores garantindo a exequibilidade e reprodutibilidade. Deve
incluir todas as informações necessárias – e/ou fazer referências a
artigos publicados em outras revistas científicas.
Resultados. Devem ser apresentados de forma breve e
concisa. Tabelas e figuras podem ser incluídas, quando necessárias,
para garantir melhor e mais efetiva compreensão dos dados. Valores
numéricos devem ser expressos.
Discussão. O objetivo da discussão é interpretar os
resultados e relacioná-los aos conhecimentos já existentes e
disponíveis, principalmente àqueles que foram indicados na
Introdução do trabalho. As informações dadas anteriormente no
texto (na Introdução, Materiais e Métodos e Resultados) podem ser
citadas, mas não devem ser repetidas em detalhes na discussão.
Discutir os resultados à luz da literatura existente sobre o assunto, e
contrastá-los se necessário ou possível; oferecer respostas (ou criar
hipóteses) sobre os achados do estudo (e sobre as diferenças com
estudos prévios). Limitações do trabalho. Implicações clínicas dos
resultados encontrados. Implicações para a pesquisa, perspectivas
futuras.
Resumo. O resumo deve ser escrito em língua portuguesa e
língua inglesa (abstract, na sequência). Deve conter uma exposição
concisa, que não exceda 300 palavras em um único parágrafo
digitado em espaço duplo, deve ser escrito contendo os seguintes
itens: introdução, objetivo, materiais e métodos, resultados e
conclusão. Notas de rodapé e abreviações não definidas não devem
ser usadas. Se for preciso citar uma referência, a citação completa
deve ser feita dentro do resumo. Os resumos devem conter dados
suficientemente sólidos para ser apreciados por um leitor que não
teve acesso ao artigo como um todo. Logo abaixo do resumo devem
ser incluídas as palavras chaves ou descritores (entre 3 e 6 palavras),
assim como abaixo do abstract devem ser relacionadas as keywords.
As citações devem seguir o padrão das normas de Vancouver,
que utiliza números (entre parênteses e sobrescritos) pela ordem de
citação.
Apresentar descritores que devem constar dos "Descritores em
Ciências da Saúde" (DeCS). Para maiores informações acesse:

Referências. O estilo das referências bibliográficas deve
seguir as regras do Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted
to Biomedical Journals (International Committee of Medical Journal
Conclusão. Concluir de maneira concisa o trabalho sem
discutir os achados.
Agradecimentos. Quando apropriado, agradeça
brevemente a assistências técnicas, aconselhamento e assistência
recebida.
Editors. Uniform requirements for manuscripts submitted to

mostrados abaixo. Para os casos não mostrados aqui, consultar a
referência acima. Os títulos dos periódicos devem ser abreviados de
acordo com o Index Medicus (List of Journals Indexed:
http://www.nlm.nih.gov/tsd/serials/lji.html). Se o periódico não
constar dessa lista, deve-se utilizar a abreviatura sugerida pelo
próprio periódico. Deve-se evitar utilizar “comunicações pessoais”
ou “observações não publicadas” como referências. Um resumo
apresentado deve ser utilizado somente se for a única fonte de

Generalidades
Tabelas. Todas as tabelas devem ser citadas no texto em
ordem numérica. Deve aparecer o local de inserção no texto (ex.:
Inserir Tabela 1). Cada tabela deve ser digitada em espaço simples, no
corpo do texto. As tabelas devem ser numeradas consecutivamente
com algarismos arábicos. Um título descritivo e legendas, na forma
em que aparecerão no texto, devem tornar as tabelas inteligíveis,
sem necessidade de remissão ao texto do artigo. As tabelas não
devem ser formatadas com marcadores horizontais nem verticais; em
vez disso, parágrafos ou recuos e espaços verticais e horizontais
devem ser usados para agrupar os dados. As tabelas devem ter a
mesma largura da tabela ou figura, em letra Times New Roman 12,
com espaçamento simples entrelinhas.
ARTIGOS DE REVISÃO
Os artigos de revisão são habitualmente encomendados pelo
Editor a autores com experiência comprovada na área. A RBOT
encoraja, entretanto, que se envie material não encomendado, desde
que expresse a experiência publicada do(a) autor(a) e não reflita,
apenas, uma revisão da literatura. Artigos de revisão deverão
abordar temas específicos com o objetivo de atualizar os menos
familiarizados com assuntos, tópicos ou questões específicas nas
áreas de Osteopatia e Terapia Manual. O Conselho Editorial avaliará
a qualidade do artigo, a relevância do tema escolhido e o
comprovado destaque dos autores na área específica abordada.
ARTIGOS DE OPINIÃO
Serão encomendados pelo Conselho Editorial a indivíduos de
notório saber nas áreas de Osteopatia e Terapia Manual, que emitirão
sua opinião sobre assuntos de particular interesse. A RBOT encoraja,
entretanto, que se envie material não encomendado, desde que
expresse a experiência publicada do(a) autor(a)
ESTUDOS DE CASOS
A RBOT estimula autores a submeter artigos de relato de
caso, descrevendo casos clínicos específicos que tragam informações
relevantes e ilustrativas sobre diagnóstico ou tratamento de um caso
particular que seja raro na Osteopatia e Terapia Manual. Os artigos
devem ser objetivos e precisos, contendo os seguintes itens: 1) Um
Resumo e um Abstract contendo as implicações clínicas; 2) Uma
Introdução com comentários sobre o problema clínico que será
abordado, utilizando o caso como exemplo. É importante
documentar a concordância do paciente em utilizar os seus dados
clínicos; 3) Um Relato objetivo contendo a história, o exame físico e
os achados de exames complementares, bem como o tratamento e o
acompanhamento; 4) Uma Discussão explicando em detalhes as
implicações clínicas do caso em questão, e confrontando com dados
da literatura, incluindo casos semelhantes relatados na literatura; 5)
Referências utilizadas.
Os relatos de casos clínicos não precisam necessariamente
seguir a estrutura canônica dos artigos científicos, mas devem
apresentar um delineamento metodológico o mais exaustivo
possível, para permitir a reprodutibilidade das intervenções
relatadas. Tenha extremo cuidado ao propor generalizações de
resultados a partir dos estudos de casos.
Estudos realizados em humanos devem estar de acordo com
os padrões éticos e com o devido consentimento livre e esclarecido
dos participantes (reporte-se à Resolução 196/96, do Conselho
Nacional de Saúde, que trata do “Código de Ética para Pesquisa em
Seres Humanos”, disponível na internet
(http://conselho.saude.gov.br/docs/Resolucoes/Reso196de96.doc).
A Coordenação reserva-se o direito de não aceitar trabalhos que não
obedeçam a essas normas.
BIOÉTICA DE EXPERIMENTOS
COM ANIMAIS
A realização de experimentos envolvendo animais deve
seguir resoluções específicas (Lei nº 6.638, de 08 de maio de 1979; e
Decreto nº 24.645 de 10 de julho de 1934).
CARTA AO EDITOR
REVISÃO PELOS PARES
Cartas endereçadas ao Editor Chefe da RBOT serão
consideradas para publicação se promoverem discussão intelectual
sobre um determinado artigo recentemente publicado. As cartas
devem conter um título informativo e seguir as instruções acima para
publicação. As cartas devem ter não mais do que 500 palavras. Se
aceita, uma cópia será enviada ao autor do artigo original que
suscitou a discussão, com um convite para submeter uma réplica que
será publicada junto com a carta.
Todos os artigos submetidos serão avaliados por ao menos
dois revisores com experiência e competência profissional na
respectiva área do trabalho e que emitirão parecer fundamentado, os
quais serão utilizados pelos Editores para decidir sobre a aceitação
do mesmo. Os critérios de avaliação dos artigos incluem:
originalidade, contribuição para corpo de conhecimento da área,
adequação metodológica, clareza e atualidade. Os artigos aceitos
para publicação poderão sofrer revisões editoriais para facilitar sua
clareza e entendimento sem alterar seu conteúdo.
LIVROS PARA REVISÃO
A RBOT estimula as editoras a submeterem livros para
apreciação pelo Conselho Editorial. Devem ser enviadas duas cópias
do livro ao Editor Chefe, as quais não serão devolvidas. O envio dos
livros não garante a sua apreciação. Contudo, os livros recebidos e
não apreciados serão listados no último número de cada ano da
Revista. Os livros selecionados para apreciação serão encaminhados
para revisores com experiência e competência profissional na
respectiva área do livro, cujos pareceres deverão ser emitidos em até
três meses e poderão ser adaptados pelos Editores da Revista, sem
qualquer interferência das editoras dos livros apreciados. O resultado
da apreciação será publicado na Revista juntamente com as
informações editoriais do livro.
RELATOS DE EXPERIÊNCIA
A RBOT estimula profissionais que possuam uma experiência
relevante em algum aspecto especial, original ou inovador em
Osteopatia e Terapia Manual a partilhá-la, sob a forma de um Relato
de Experiência.
DUPLA SUBMISSÃO
Os artigos submetidos à RBOT serão considerados para
publicação somente com a condição de que não tenham sido
publicados ou estejam em processo de avaliação para publicação em
outro periódico, seja na sua versão integral ou em parte. A RBOT não
considerará para publicação artigos cujos dados tenham sido
disponibilizados na Internet para acesso público.
Se houver no artigo submetido algum material em figuras ou
tabelas já publicado em outro local, a submissão do artigo deverá ser
acompanhada de cópia do material original e da permissão por
escrito para reprodução do material.
CONFLITO DE INTERESSE
Os autores deverão explicitar, através de formulário próprio
(Divulgação de potencial conflito de interesses - a seguir), qualquer
potencial conflito de interesse relacionado ao artigo submetido,
conforme determinação da Agência Nacional de Vigilância Sanitária
(RDC 102/ 2000) e do Conselho Federal de Medicina (Resolução nº
1.595/2000). Esta exigência visa informar os editores, revisores e
leitores sobre relações profissionais e/ou financeiras (como
patrocínios e participação societária) com agentes financeiros
relacionados aos produtos farmacêuticos ou equipamentos
envolvidos no trabalho, os quais podem teoricamente influenciar as
interpretações e conclusões do mesmo. A existência ou não de
conflito de interesse declarado estarão ao final de todos os artigos
publicados.
CORREÇÃO DE PROVAS GRÁFICAS
Logo que prontas, as provas gráficas em formato eletrônico
serão enviadas, por e-mail, para o autor responsável pelo artigo. Os
autores deverão devolver a prova gráfica com as devidas correções
em, no máximo, 48 horas após o seu recebimento.
DIREITOS AUTORAIS
Todas as declarações publicadas nos artigos são de inteira
responsabilidade dos autores. Entretanto, todo material publicado
torna-se propriedade do autor corporativo da RBOT, que passa a
reservar os direitos autorais. Portanto, nenhum material publicado na
RBOT poderá ser reproduzido sem a permissão por escrito do autor
corporativo. Todos os autores de artigos submetidos à RBOT deverão
assinar um Termo de Transferência de Direitos Autorais (a seguir), que
entrará em vigor a partir da data de aceite do trabalho. O autor
responsável pelo artigo receberá, sem custos, a separata eletrônica
da publicação (em formato PDF).

ENVIO DE ARTIGOS POR E-MAIL
A RBOT estimula a submissão de artigos por meio de correio
eletrônico (e-mail). Este tipo de submissão permite maior agilidade
no processo de revisão. Para isso, será necessário o envio dos
arquivos contendo o texto e as figuras do artigo para o endereço
eletrônico da revista ([email protected]). Deverá ser
enviada uma mensagem ao Editor Chefe com identificação dos
autores, bem como os seus endereços convencional e eletrônico,
mais informações sobre o formato utilizado. O artigo deverá ser
enviado em anexo (como attachment), nos formatos Microsoft Word
para Windows, respeitando rigorosamente as normas. As figuras
deverão estar nos formatos jpg ou tif em anexo ao final do texto. O
Termo de Transferência de Direitos Autorais e Termo de Divulgação de
Potencial Conflito de Interesses dos artigos deverão ser digitalizados
e enviados via email juntamente com o artigo.
Os manuscritos que não estiverem de acordo com as
instruções a seguir em relação ao estilo e formatos serão devolvidos
sem revisão pelo Conselho Editorial.

INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS
MANUSCRIPT PREPARATION
GUIDELINES
Manuscripts must be written in either Portuguese or English
and submitted by email to the following address:
[email protected]. They must be double-spaced, in 12
point Times New Roman font with wide margins (upper, lower and
sides= 2.5 cm), A4 (21.0 x 29.7 cm) (8.5” x 11”) page size, and no
more than twenty pages including references, figures and tables.
FILE FORMAT
• The text should be presented in Microsoft Word for
Windows
• Figures should be either JPEG or TIFF format.
The manuscript must be organized in the following manner,
with all pages consecutively numbered in the upper right corner,
beginning with the title page:
- 1st Page (identification data)Title Page: a) title in
Portuguese (for Portuguese-language manuscripts), b) title in
English, c) complete names of all authors, followed by Arabic numeral
superscript identifying their respective institutions; d) the lead
(corresponding) author’s name, complete address and e-mail, all
separated by commas.
- 2nd Page
Abstract. The abstract must be written in both Portuguese
(positioned first) and English for Portuguese-language manuscripts
and in English only for English-language manuscripts. It should be a
concise representation of the study with no more than 300 words in a
single, double-spaced paragraph containing the following headings:
Introduction, Objective, Materials and Methods, Results, Conclusion.
Footnotes and undefined abbreviations should not be used. If any
reference must be cited, the complete citation should be made in the
abstract. Abstracts must contain sufficiently solid data to be
appreciated by readers without access to the entire article. From 3 to
6 keywords should appear just below the abstract and be labeled as
“Keywords”.
After the Abstract the following complete sections should
appear: Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion,
Conclusion, References.
Introduction. Must contain the objectives of the
investigation, their relation to other studies in the area and the
reasons the author/s undertook the study.
Materials and Methods. To guarantee feasibility and
reproducibility, there must be sufficient information for repetition by
other researchers. It must either include all necessary information or
refer to published articles in other scientific journals.
Results. Must be brief and concise; tables and figures may
be included when necessary to guarantee better and more effective
comprehension of the data. Numeric values must be clearly and
precisely expressed.
Discussion. The purpose of the Discussion is to interpret the
results and relate them to preexisting, available findings, principally
those indicated in the Introduction of the study. Information given
previously in the text (in the Introduction, Materials and Methods,
and Results) may be cited, but not repeated in detail in the
Discussion. Discuss the results in light of the extant literature on the
subject and contrast them if necessary or possible; offer answers (or
create hypotheses) about the findings of the study (and any
differences with previous studies). Include discussion of study’s
limitations and the clinical implications of the findings, as well as
implications for research and future perspectives.
Conclusion. Concisely conclude the study without
discussing the findings.
Acknowledgements. When appropriate, briefly thank
those who assisted technically or gave advice.
Citations should follow the Vancouver Norms, which use
numerals (in parentheses and superscript) in sequential order of
source appearance.
References. The bibliographic references should follow the
Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical
Journals (International Committee of Medical Journal Editors.

Some more common examples are shown below. For all other types,
consult the above-mentioned reference. Periodical titles should be
abbreviated according to Index Medicus (List of Journals Indexed:
http://www.nlm.nih.gov/tsd/serials/lji.html). If a periodical is not
found in this list, use the abbreviation suggested by the periodical
itself. Avoid the use of “personal communications” or “unpublished
observations” as references. An abstract cannot be used if it is the
only source of information. Examples:

Other considerations
Tables. All tables must be cited in the text in numeric order.
Point of insertion in the text must be indicated (e.g., “Insert Table 1
here”). All tables must be included in the text file as appendices after
the Reference section (not sent as attached documents). The tables
must be numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals. A descriptive
title/caption and a legend must render each table intelligible, without
the need of referring back to the article. The tables must not be
formatted with either horizontal or vertical lines; instead, paragraphs
or indention should be used to group the data. All tables and figures
must be the same width, be single-spaced and use 12-point Times
New Roman font.
REVIEW ARTICLES
The Editor regularly calls for review articles by authors with
proven experience in the area. BJOM does encourage, however, the
submission of unsolicited material, provided that it represents an
experiment published by the author and not solely a literature review.
The purpose of review articles should be to update those less familiar
with specific subjects, topics or questions in the area of Osteopathy
and Manual Therapy. The Editorial Council will evaluate the quality of
the article, the relevance of the chosen theme and the proven
distinction of the authors in the specific area.
SHORT COMMUNICATIONS
Short communications are reports regarding a single subject
and must be concise and definitive. Pairs or series of submissions will
not be accepted. It is intended that this section have a broad reach
and encompass methodology and experimental data regarding
subjects of interest to readers of the Journal. They should contain:
• an abstract of no more than 250 words
• no more than six keywords
• a text divided into sections ( Introduction, Material and
Methods, Results, Discussion) without a specific separation for
conclusions
• a maximum of 2 figures or tables (or one of each)
• no more than 20 references
• a maximum of 2500 words including figures, tables and
references
• notification by the authors in the submission letter that the
manuscript is being submitted as a Short Communication.
OPINION PIECES
Opinion pieces will be solicited by the Editorial Council from
renowned individuals in the fields of Osteopathy and Manual
Therapy, who will express their opinion on subjects of particular
interest. Nevertheless, RBOT encourages the submission of
unsolicited material, provided that it expresses the published
experience of the author.
CASE STUDIES
BJOM encourages the submission of case studies in which
relevant and illustrative information about the diagnostics or
treatment of a specific rare case in Osteopathy or Manual Therapy is
described. Articles should be both objective and precise and include
the following sections: 1) an Abstract containing clinical implications,
2) an Introduction with commentary about the clinical problem that
will be addressed in the case (remember to document patient
consent for the publication of personal clinical data), 3) an objective
Report describing the history, physical examination and findings of
complementary exams, as well as treatment and follow-up, 4) a
Discussion explaining the details and clinical implications of the case
in question that refers to data in the literature and presents similar
cases, 5) References cited.
Clinical case reports need not necessarily follow the
canonical structure of scientific articles, but must present the most
exhaustive possible methodological outline so that the reported
interventions may be reproduced. Use extreme caution with
generalizations drawn from the results of a case study.
Studies carried out with humans must be in accord with
ethical standards and have the free and informed consent of the
participants (Code of Ethics for Research on Human Beings). The
Editors reserve the right not to publish studies that do not abide by
these norms.
BIOETHICS OF ANIMAL
EXPERIMENTS
Experiments involving animals must follow specific
resolutions.
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Letters to the Editor-in-Chief of BJOM will be considered for
publication if they promote intellectual discussion about a certain
recently-published article. The letters should contain an informative
title and follow the above-mentioned instructions for publication.
Letters should contain no more than 500 words. If accepted, a copy
will be sent to the author of the original article that inspired the
discussion along with an invitation to submit a reply for publication
jointly with the letter.
BOOK REVIEWS
BJOM encourages publishers to submit books to the Editorial
Council for review. Two copies of the book, which will not be
returned, should be sent to the Editor-in-Chief. Sending a book does
not necessarily guarantee its review. Nevertheless, unreviewed
books will be listed in each year’s final edition of the Journal. Books
selected for review will be forwarded to competent, experienced
professionals whose areas coincide with the subject matter of the
book and who will return their opinions within three months. Their
reviews may be adapted by the Editors of the Journal, but there will
be no interference from the publisher of the reviewed book. The
results of the review will be published in the Journal together with
the book’s publication information.
EXPERIENCE REPORTS
BJOM encourages professionals who have had a relevant
experience regarding a special, original or innovative aspect of
Osteopathy and Manual Therapy to communicate them in the form of
an Experience Report.
DOUBLE SUBMISSIONS
Manuscripts submitted to BJOM will be considered for
publication only on condition that they have neither been published
nor are in the evaluation process for publication elsewhere, either in
part or in whole. BJOM will not consider articles for publication
whose data have been made publicly available on the internet.
If there is material in the figures or tables of a submitted
article that has been previously published elsewhere, the submitted
article must be accompanied by a copy of the original material and
written permission to reprint the material.
CONFLICT OF INTEREST
Authors must explain, via the Potential Conflict of Interest
Statement, any potential conflicts related to the submitted article.
The purpose of this requirement is to inform the editors, reviewers
and readers about professional and/or financial relationships (such
as sponsorship and corporate partnership) with agents linked to
pharmaceutical products or equipment involved in the study, which
could theoretically influence its interpretation and/or conclusions.
The declared presence or absence of conflict of interest will appear at
the end of all published articles.
PEER REVIEW
All submitted manuscripts will be evaluated by at least two
professionally competent reviewers experienced in the study’s area
who will write well-reasoned opinions to be used by the Editors in
decision making about the article’s publication. The evaluation
criteria for articles include: originality, contribution to the body of
knowledge in the area, methodological adequacy, clarity and
currency. Without substantially altering their content, articles
accepted for publication may undergo editorial revision for purposes
of clarity.
PROOF CORRECTION
Upon completion, a proof copy will be sent by email to the
article’s corresponding author. The document must be returned with
any necessary corrections marked within 48 hours of its receipt.
COPYRIGHT ISSUES
All declarations in published articles are entirely the
responsibility of the authors. Nevertheless, as the corporate author,
all material published in BJOM becomes its property, for which all
copyrights are reserved. Therefore, no material published in BJOM
may be reproduced without the written permission of the corporate
author. All authors of articles submitted to BJOM must sign the
Copyright Transfer Agreement, which takes effect on the date of the
manuscript’s acceptance for publication. The corresponding author
will receive, at no cost, a final PDF offprint of the publication.

SENDING MANUSCRIPTS BY E-MAIL
BJOM encourages the submission of manuscripts by e-mail.
This type of submission allows greater agility in the review process.
To complete this process, send the files containing the article’s text
and figures to the Journal’s e-mail address:
[email protected]. The message should be addressed
to the Editor-in-Chief, identify the authors and provide both
conventional and electronic addresses, as well as information about
the article type. The article should be sent as an attachment in
Microsoft Word for Windows and rigorously respect the norms herein.
Any figures must be included as appendices at the end of the text file
in either JPEG or TIFF format. The Copyright Transfer Agreement and
the Potential Conflict of Interest Statement must be completed,
scanned and sent jointly with the article (all three files must be
sent together in one email message).
Manuscripts not in accord with the instructions provided
regarding style and formatting will be returned without review by the
Editorial Council.
