A better than average issue an interesting story by Chris Butler, a borderline Zoophilia story by Carlos Hernandez
and a satisfying emotional story by Damien Walters Grintalis.
- "The Animator" by Chris Butler: an interesting story set on the premise that we emit 'emotional spores' that
people can detect to discover our moods and our emotions. Sports also allow people like the Autumn Duke to
dominate others people. Into this steps our narrator, a quiet inventive fellow - who happens to invent a
mechanism that could be use by groups of people to overcome the effects of spores. What will the future hold for
him and his invention?
- "Hypermnemonic" by Melanie Tem: a somewhat confusing tale told from the viewpoint of a 'rebuilt' person with
perfect recall who tells a tale to some 'children' about meeting their 'father'. Filled with distracting memory recalls
about past events, it is only at the ending that it all falls into place and reveals just who the 'children' and 'father'
are and the role of the narrator in this story. Possibly not for those who don't like borderline sf-horror stories.
- "The International Studbook of the Giant Panda" by Carlos Hernandez: an interesting and hilarious, story about a
future where robot pandas with immersive technology is being used by one company to try to get pandas to
procreate. When a reporter is given a 'hands-on' trial, she finds herself immersed rather deeply into the 'role' of a
panda female. To the point where real pandas start to pay attention to her. Oh dear.
- "Paskutinis Iliuzija (The Last Illusion)" by Damien Walters Grintalis: a nice, emotional story about an magician who
can create illusions trying to keep his ill daughter alive in a country being run over by Soviet soldiers during the
Second World War. They are hunting for magicians, so he has to keep his magic hidden as much as possible while
using it to distract his daughter. Finally, when it all seems to much, he decides to create his ultimate illusion to
protect his daughter which may cost him his life.
- "The Face Tree" by Antony Mann: a man meets a girl by a tree with an unusual face shaped knot that the girl

proclaims was created by her. As their relationship proceeds, the girl becomes ever more mysterious. At the end,
as their relationship reaches a climax, the origin of the face in the tree knot is revealed.|The Animator: um conto
extraordinariamente visual. Chris Butler mergulha-nos numa realidade alternativa inspirada na Paris de fim de
século. O toque de estranheza no ambiente arcaico é dado pelo pormenor da comunicação através de feromonas,
que dá toda uma nova dimensão à sociedade humana. As cidades vivem numa ordem controlada por ditadores
cujas feromonas se sobrepõem às das restantes pessoas. Mas há limites para a persuasão. Quando um jovem
engenhoso empregado por um relojoeiro começa a fazer experiências com máquinas de animação percebe que a
emoção concentrada dos espectadores pode alterar profundamente o estado das coisas. Impotente perante os
poderosos, acaba por ter de partir para o exílio, viajando entre as cidades com o seu espectáculo ambulante de
animação que desperta emoções perigosas nos espectadores.
Hypermnemonic: Melanie Tem assina um conto incompreensível que parece girar à volta do biohacking e
experimentação com biologia humana sintética. Escrito num estilo denso e sem clareza, não consegue traçar um
percurso narrativo que permita ao leitor perceber a história.
The International Studbook of the Giant Panda: Carlos Hernandez assina um conto divertido sobre bestialidade
robotizada. Num futuro próximo, um grupo de cientistas descobre a melhor forma para estimular sexualmente os
pandas para que procriem e evitem a extinção: robots realistas controlados por humanos imersos em realidade
virtual avançada que simula tão bem os sentidos dos animais que o risco de esquecer a personalidade humana é
muito grande.
The Last Illusion: Magia ancestral e história do século XX colidem neste conto de uma autora lituana. Durante os
primeiros tempos da ocupação soviética um mago tenta proteger a sua filha dos soldados através de uma ilusão
elaborada que dita a sua prisão e envio para um destino incerto. Escrito de forma fortemente poética por Damien
Grintalis.
The Face Tree: Aparentemente esta é uma história de redenção e encontro do amor por um homem solitário e
descrente do mundo, mas com alguns parágrafos bem escolhidos Anthony Mann leva-nos ao campo do
fantástico. Um cruzamento casual com uma mulher intrigante numa floresta perto de Oxford muda a vida a um
poeta que sobrevive como guia turístico. O homem apaixonado acaba por descobrir que os braços da mulher que
gosta de árvores escondem um destino que aparentemente terrível acaba por ser libertador.|Wonderful story
