Second Edition of the „Studienführer der OTH Regensburg“: 300copies
The latest edition can always be found at

Dear fellow students…
… welcome at Ostbayerische Technische Hochschule Regensburg!
We intend to provide you with as much information as possible about student life
in Regensburg with this booklet.
Therefore this guide is divided into four areas:
• “Your campus” starting at page 10 gives you some orientation on the campus
and how to arrive there best.
• “Your studies” groups important information about studying at Ostbayeri-
sche Technische Hochschule Regensburg. It doesn‘t matter, whether you‘re
searching for a copier, a book or important dates - after reading page 38,
you‘ll know how to organise your studies.
• “Your student‘s life” gives you an idea of what to do in your free time. With sport,
parties and night life tips starting at page 54 your day is planed quickly. There is
also a tip how to find a flat or where to buy a bicycle.
• “Your student‘s union” does not only try to write some guides in English, but
also offers considerably more. Page 66 and following include contact information of fellow students and information about the organisational structure
of the students government as well as how to become part of it.
No worries - it is possible to master studies and the new life in Regensburg without
this guide and don‘t start memorizing all of it. It shall be an easy reading and a
reference for finding answers.
Make use of the freshmen offers of the students’ union and you‘ll find new people
very quickly.
You can visit us in our offices (see page 66), where we voluntarily help you with
questions and concerns. Next to almost every office is a timetable, where you can
look up opening hours.
This guide is result of hard work. Unfortunately some information is changing really
fast. If you’re not quite sure about the texts, just stop by and ask!
We wish you good luck, endurance and above all a lot of fun during your studies
at Ostbayerische Technische Hochschule Regensburg!

YOUR CAMPUS
Your Campus
Your campus in Regensburg is something very special. If you desist from the buildings in Prüfeninger Staße - whose users shall relocate sooner or later - Hochschule
and university share a huge interconnected campus which ranges from Seybothstraße to the university’s clinical centre. The next pages should be of help to find
your way.
Ways in Regensburg
Part of the callback contribution that has to be paid every term is intended for the
“Semesterticket”. Hence your student ID is valid as a ticket in the public local traffic.
It is valid throughout the area of the RVV (see page12), that’s why you don’t need
to purchase a ticket for the busses, trains of DB or other railway companies as long
as it’s a means of transportation in local traffic.
The current ticket is priced at 72€, starting from summer term 2014 the ticket
costs 75€, the following summer term the price increases to 77€. The agreement
between RVV and the Studentenwerk ends in the winter term 2015/2016 with the
price at 79€.
That means that you can go to Neumarkt as well as
from Fischmarkt to Uni Mensa stress less and for free.
The semester ticket is valid - like the student ID - during the whole semester and therefore the lecturefree time, too.
Having a bike is worth a lot in Regensburg - some
ways are really short then. If you consider buying
one you can find a small assortment of traders on
page 65. Promenades through the historic centre
or bike tours through rural environment have their
charm, too.
There are also guided city tours in Regensburg which
are not intended to go a very long distance and to
hear a lot of things in very short time. If you’re interested in an alternative city tour,
have a look on the following site: http://www.regensburg.de/tourismus/de/. Registering Regensburg as a second residence provides you with a gift coupon for a
guided city tour.
You see, there’s no need to have a car in Regensburg, because you’re very flexible
and mobile by foot, bike and busses.

Ways in Regensburg
YOUR CAMPUS
Ways to the university
If you take the bus, go by bike, car or simply walk to the university, everything has
its pros and cons. We tried to give a summary about the most common ways for
being on your way to the university.
by foot …it is often the fastest way through the historic centre - compared to
other means of transportation - if you know your way through the multitudinous
alleyways and backyards. Moreover, the routes in Regensburg seem longer as they
actually are: if you have to wait ten minutes for the bus at the university, you can
also walk and arrive at the same time the bus does at the central station. Taking the
„Schleichweg“ behind the canteen to Street Bischof-Konrad saves you time as well.
by bicycle …A good choice to get fast from A to B. If your destiny is across the Donau it’s much easier going there by bicycle since you
can use both „Steinerne Brücke“ and „Eiserner Steg“
to cross the river, which is denied to other means of
transport. Hence, you save half the time in comparison to bus and car. Additionally, you are more flexible by bike because you are not dependent of some
time tables or getting one of the rare parking spots.
The only counterargument is the weather dependence. As the respect for foreign bikes is rather notorious than famous, you need to take good precautions against thieving. Apart from that, going by bike
is the best solution to make your way through the city.
by bus …As long as you calculate on more time in
the mornings, RVV is a good option, too. RVV also
managed some extra busses during the rush hours of the university’s lecture period
(unfortunately they did not gear to our lecture period).
Problem is going home after partying: on weekdays there’s no bus after midnight.
Friday and Saturday night the „Nachtschwärmer“ busses are available after midnight.
Most students prefer the bus, which causes a nerve-wracking capacity overload.
If you want to arrive on time, you should take an earlier bus since the busses are
completely overloaded in the mornings, which causes delays.
Reason is that sometimes there are light barriers which some passengers are not
aware of. That’s why closing the doors sometimes takes up to five minutes.
bus lines Bus lines leading to the campus are 2B, 4, 6, 11 and 19. For going to
Prüfening you take line 1 or 4. During lecture time (of the UR, of course...) those
bus lines, except for line 19, go more often, especially during peak times. Further12

more, there are extra bus lines during lecture
period: C1 is reinforcing line 11, C2 is reinforcing line 2, C4 is reinforcing line 4 and C6
is reinforcing line 6.
For exact schedules and further information
try the RVV customer centre, Hemauerstr. 1,
near the bus terminal Albertstraße. There’s the
chance to purchase a bus schedule, or you
simply download relevant ones from: http://www.rvv.de.
On pages 14 are some of the schedules above listed.
by car ...Parking lot affliction influences the picture of Regensburg, at the university
as well as in the city centre. Wrecking services are at „sites of crime“ right away.
Our suggestion is to use your car only for emergency situations! Do not park at
lawns, they are no parking areas. Additionally, mind the road signs. If your car
is towed, however, the following website might help: http://www-verwaltung.uniregensburg.de/Abschleppdienst.htm.
Nevertheless, if you need a parking lot in the
city centre, you can try the Donaumarkt or
parking decks (for example the parking deck
at Dachauplatz).
At parking areas on the campus, the headlamps of a brand new car of a professor as
well as some radios etc were stolen in broad
daylight. Thus, it is not to be suggested to use the campus as durable parking
position.

Finding rooms
YOUR CAMPUS
Finding rooms
First, you get some information about the room numbers of the university. In general, rooms are denoted with a letter and a triple-digit number. The place of location
affects the first letter, followed by the floor and the room number. One example:
U126. This room is in the Sammelgebäude, first floor, room 26. Rooms in the basement floor are marked with a minus between place of location letter and the first
figure (for example S -102).
The following websites might help you finding rooms:
http://www.hs-regensburg.de/kontakt/standorte-und-lageplaene.html

HS.R card
The card for almost everything.
It’s not only your student ID but also your ticket in
the local traffic, your library card, your sports centre
using empowerment as well as your canteen card.
For using the HS.R card to purchase meals or snacks
in the cafeterias you have to charge it. This happens
on one of the charging stations all around the campus (e.g. in the canteen’s entrance, in some cafeterias ...).
Be aware that you have to feed all of these charging
stations with cash, except for one that’s located in the canteen’s entrance. You
don’t have to remove the card from your wallet as long as there’s no other RFID
card in it. Do not remove the card from the display when it’s still charging!
If you’ve lost your HS.R card, inform the students’ administration in Prüfening (Room
P024, Tel: 0941- 1050), where you get a new card in exchange for 10€.
If you’re facing problems charging your card, contact the service office in the
university’s canteen’s building. Opening hours are:
Mo- Fr 8:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. as well as from 11:15 a.m. to 2 p.m..

YOUR CAMPUS
Using your card
Locations All in all there are three canteens
for all of Regensburg’s students. One is located in the Building in Seybothstraße, another is
in the basement of the building in Prüfeningerstraße, and another at Uni-Campus (AlbertusMagnus-Straße).
If you just want to have a snack, you can visit
one of the eight cafeterias spread all over the
campus (there is at least one in each bigger
building).
Taste
It‘s up to you to decide, if you like the food served in the canteen or not.
Nevertheless, the price-quality-ratio is student friendly and the variety in the daily
range of meals is more than just ok.
The friendly personal and good atmosphere is
also attracting students from Uni (though their
canteen has recently been renovated). This
leads to a waiting time of up to 15 minutes
during rush hour.
It is recommended to spare the canteen during 12:00 am - 01:00 pm to avoid this inconvienience unless you like queuing up to the
library‘s entrance.
Menu If you need a decision making help for whether you head for the canteen
instead of the cafeteria, there are current menus put up in the cafeterias and you
can also look them up at the following site:

Department of studies
This department is divided into the following four departments:
Service office, Department of examination
administration, Department of internship administration and Department of studies registration and organisation. It‘s the first contact
point if there are any problems regarding studying or the life related to it.
Unfortunately the administration is located in
Prüfeninger Straße. There are phones to call
staff of the administration free of cost installed
at the campus. Just dial the 4-digit direct
access and you get through, the full phone
number goes like this (0941)-943-XXXX (XXXX
stands for the 4-digit direct access) and is only needed when you call from somewhere else.

the university’s homepage. Grades are published on QIS-System (see Page 39).
Many Docents additionally publish the results of their examinations prior to the
official date at their homepages, the K-Drive or the eLearning-platform.
More information regarding examinations can be found on the Rahmenprüfungsordnung of the particular field of study. It is published on the faculty‘s webpages as

YOUR STUDIES
Your Studies
CIP-Pool, confirmation (re-registration), library, AW-Fach – and many other terms
are linked to your studies. The following pages contain a compilation of useful
information that will help you through your first days at the university.
The Change
Poorly, university is not like school, where newsletters were sent to your parents and
information material is handed out. It happened more than once, that a completely
unsuspecting and innocent student was exmatriculated simply because nobody told that unlucky guy/girl
that it was time to pay the fees for confirmation. In
other cases exams could not be written as the student
was not registered and the deadline has been some
time ago. The easiest way to avoid inconvenience
like this is to check your email account provided by
Ostbayerische Technische Hochschule Regensburg
(see page 42) regularly and to have a look at the HS‘
homepage.
If you need peculiar information but don’t know
whom to ask, it is best to contact professors of your
faculty. Also, the secretary of the faculty is a good
place to go.
Most dates and deadlines are only released by post
or email. Your grades are almost exclusively available online as well. (More information under “QIS”).
Useful Websites
The following sites are worth a periodical look during your studies:
ƒ The Extranet: http://www.hs-regensburg.de
ƒ Computer Science & Mathematics (FSIM): http://www.fsim.ev.de
ƒ Applied Social Studies (FoSo): http://www.foso.de
Have a look on your own faculty’s site (http://www.hs-regensburg.de - choose
faculties on top navigation bar)! Just small news like cancellation of lectures due
to illness of the lecturer or short-term room- or schedule changes are announced
there.
A look on your faculty’s own notice board- called “schwarzes Brett” in Germanwhere miscellaneous information is announced can be worthwhile

YOUR STUDIES
QIS
QIS
QIS is an IT System available for students to organise their data at HS more easily.
At the moment the following functions are available for students::
ƒ Information on registered exams
ƒ Overview of grades, furthermore an overview of all the performances during
your studies
ƒ Paying of confirmation
ƒ Certificates converted to PDF files:
- Overview of Grades
- Certificate of exam examinations
ƒ Browsing the university‘s internship database
ƒ Updating addresses, phone numbers, mail addresses saved by the university
ƒ Coming soon: schedule, room plan, cancellation of lectures, etc.
Overviews of grades, printed out by the QIS system are accepted by many companies
etc. without the examination office‘s sign. Pay attention if you change your address in
QIS. The changes are not adopted by the library as they use another kind of database.
You can access QIS at: http://www.hs-regensburg.de/qis

CIP-Pools
Nowadays computers are indispensable for students. Due to this there’s a CIP-Pool at
each location, with all usually needed applications already installed. Furthermore there are special applications for some academic
departments. Of course, internet is available on

There are some laboratories in several departments that can‘t be distinguished of the CIPPools. The difference is that only students of the

password, you may need it someday. In case you‘ve forgotten your password there‘s a

Actually, every student has a personal storage of 650MB. If - for some reason - more
storage is needed you can apply for it at the computer centre.

Copier
Copier
Even if it is almost uncommon to copy stuff nowadays, there‘s a Copier at each location of the Ostbayerischen Technischen Hochschule Regensburg.
In Seybothstraße the copier is located in the basement. Furthermore there‘s a copy shop of IGEKO,
which is great for copying your lectures. There‘s
also a copier in the library - basement near the
cleaning rooms.
You find the copier in Galgenbergstraße in room A110.
If you want to copy in Prüfeninger Straße
Straße: It’s downstairs the entrance hall.
Above WIWI- Cafete in the entrance hall of the university‘s library there‘s a copier in
the Sammelgebäude
Sammelgebäude.
There are other copy shops all around the campus, e.g. at the Uni-Mensa, at LudwigThoma-Straße or Bischof-Konrad-Straße and Papier Liebl has a copy-area and is
pretty cheap in binding stuff.
If you‘ve got an IGEKO copier-card you can also use the copier in the library‘s
basement.
Copying for free If you need some copies for a performance record (e.g. a presentation) in a lecture, you can mostly copy those things for free. You just have to ask your
Professor or assistant lecturer for a copy ticket.

University’s library
There are 170.000 volumes, 50.000 licensed e-books and about 500 subscribed magazines in the library and they are still extending.
Bib is an abbreviation for the German word “Bibliothek” and every student is using the
short form instead of the long one.
It’s the perfect place to learn for upcoming exams, to deepen your knowledge or simply
to satisfy your curiosity.
In general
It is not allowed to bring big bags or food with
you. As of late it is allowed to bring bottled drinks
and your jackets. You can lend a locker right opposite to the library for all the things you’re supposed to leave outside.
Please be aware that it is evident to be quiet in
the library.
Nevertheless, there’s a foam earplug vendor for
noise sensitive students at the circulation.
The university’s library is online, too: http://www.hs-regensburg.de/bibliothek

Positioning All books are organised in their
special fields, due to the Regensburger classification scheme (RVK). On the head ends of each
shelf is a list of all topics, which are on the shelf.
If you need s special book, try the search option
(opac) on a computer that is especially provided
for this reason. The search provides you with the
books signature, consisting of a letter combination, a number and the encoded name of the author.
Only the latest newspapers are in the newspaper reading room, the latest specialised
journals are located in the basement.

Regensburger Katalog (opac) Opac is a medium for searching your needed books
in all libraries in Regensburg. It is installed on some computers in the library, but you
can access opac from the internet, too. With this tool it’s possible to reserve or to
order a book, to extend the lending period or download it as an e-book. (Further
information below)
https://www.regensburger-katalog.de
loan A request for using the library is essential for loaning a book. It’s available at
the library’s counter. After a short introduction your student ID is activated for loaning.
Lending period for books adds up to four weeks. If no one else has booked it, you
are allowed to lend it four more weeks, otherwise you have to hand it in immediately.
All in all it is possible to lend a book for 12 weeks, because there’s one more prolongation feasible. If you miss bringing it back in time, be aware that there’s a charge
amounting to 7,50€. Recent journals are available in an overnight loan, reference
holdings only over the weekend (from Friday evenings to Monday noon, you uncover
reference holdings by their sticker “nicht ausleihbar”).
interlending & purchasing If a book isn’t available in your preferred library, you can
try either interlending from other libraries or recommendation on the website of the
university’s library.
loan & return automation Opposite to the counter
are two loan automations which you can use with your
HS.R card (Seybothstraße). The return automation is
next to the library’s entrance, hence you can bring your
books back beyond the library’s opening hours.
Lending a book in Prüfening is only possible in personal during the opening hours, whereas returning it is
always feasible.

A STUDENT‘S LIFE
A student‘s life
As a student, learning, listening to lectures and giving your best performance every day is not everything. Whether you like sports, going to a concert, partying or
enjoying spiritual events- there is plenty of opportunity to get through a day in the
city of Regensburg as well as on the campus itself. You will find some activities on
the following pages.
Cultural activities on the campus
There are a lot of students beyond the students‘ council of each faculty committed to (inter-)cultural activities. Particularly worth mentioning is the students‘ stage,
which is supported by the Studentenwerk Niederbayern/Oberpfalz and located at
the Uni Regensburg‘s theatre.
Not only modern but also new as well as serious plays are regularly staged there. Now and
then the mostly student actors perform a play
in the original language and text. If you are
interested about any plays and dates, you can
get a leaflet called “Kultur auf dem Campus”
from the Studentenwerk within the current program.
Kneipenrallye
Every term there’s a bar hop (that means Kneipenrallye in “German”) for all the
new starters in Regensburg. It is organised by USO and it usually starts at the
Dome. You get a guide-sheet with several bars, pubs and clubs with a fun question
for you to answer. Winner is the student with most correct answered questions and
stamps on the sheet.
FH-Fest
USO also organises this indoor- party. About 60 students set up seven different
bars and three floors within the Seybothstraße-building. Admission is by ticket only!
The advance booking usually is on Monday of the same week the party takes place
in the students’ representatives offices. You have to be an early bird, because they
are quickly sold out.

Going to the movies in Regensburg
It‘s hard to find your favorite among the various cinemas in Regensburg. On the
one hand, there are old fashioned but comfortable and cheap cinemas in the old
town (Garbo, Ostentor, Andreasstadel) on the other hand there is the modern but
also expensive CinemaXX. In addition to the friendly prices the smaller cinemas
sometimes present special movies such as classics and art films.
The current program is available on http://altstadtkinos.de and also in the free magazine WOHIN, which is laid out either on the campus or some public locations.
You can also attend an open air cinema in the summer at castle Pürkelgut. Every
Tuesday students show a movie at lecture hall H4 (auditorium, university building).
If you would like to know which one is next, just take a look on the following web
site: http://www.studikino.de.

A STUDENT‘S LIFE
Sports at the campus
After an exhausting day at the university some students need physical work out to
calm down.
A current version of all sports activities during the term is available on http://wwwcgi.uni-regensburg.de/Einrichtungen/Sportzentrum/ahs/. You have to register early for your favorite class because in some cases a class has a lot more contestants
than the number it is limited to.
Access to the grounds is guaranteed by your HS.R card. For using the fitness room
as well as the swimming hall, sauna, general sports classes and the climbing wall
it is reasonable to buy a combi-ticket for 40€.
The sports centre is open between Mondays and Thursdays from 02:00 pm until
10:00pm during the lecture period, and opened at 02:00 pm and closed at 08:30
pm on Fridays.
Once a term you can try any class without buying any ticket within a week. This
takes place in the beginning of each term. (The beginning of the university’s lecture
period- which starts about 2- 4 weeks later than our lecture period!)

Students’ representatives are responsible for different tasks. For instance the student
association is closely linked to all students of their faculty.
Some have special offers such as written notes, exercises, further information to the
study path and other topics. They even organise special events like board game
parties, barbecues, information events and (Christmas) Parties and many more.
They all appreciate a little help in planning or performing events. If this is your cup

Another task is the codetermination both in academic autonomy of the university
and on the students’ representatives’ site.
66
Study Guide of Student Representatives of OTH Regensburg – WS 13/14
YOUR STUDENTS‘ REPRESENTATION
Higher Education Policies & Codetermination
Higher Education Policies & Codetermination
Framework Act for Higher Education, Bavarian Higher Education Act, Study and
Exam Regulations of different study paths and several other regulations are relevant
legal texts.
Below you find an abstract of your students’ representatives’ higher education policies.
Autonomy
Autonomy means that the university can make its own decisions as long as they’re
not going against the Ministry of Science’s course. Some topics cause longer discussions and nothing’s let through on the nod.
…academic All members of the university take part in decision making. Decisions
are made in elected bodies and by bare majority.
Students are able to take up position and show different perspectives, which other
body members were not aware of.
Academic autonomy is divided in eight faculties, which gather similar study paths.
The administrative body is controlled by one central point, where decisions concerning the university are made.
Persons in charge do the routine business and implement the bodies’ decisions. For
your faculty it’s the dean, for the university altogether it’s the university’s president.
…student Students` representatives are organised in bodies, as the Bavarian
Higher Education Act provides. These bodies are: spokesmen, students’ convention, faculty’s spokesmen and faculty’s representatives.
In opposite to academic autonomy there’s no classification in superiors and subordinates. Students’ representatives try to shape the habitat campus along with the
students.
The student convention as well as the faculty’s representatives is elected by all students. Their spokesmen are elected by the student’s convention.
University’s elections
Every summer term elections are taking place, to elect the student representatives
for every body of academic autonomy. Professors and employees are elected every
second year.

Self administration in detail
YOUR STUDENTS‘ REPRESENTATION
Even if you’re not interested in higher education politics you should take your time
to vote. It’s easier to discuss with deans and the university’s management with a
high voter participation that authorises a student representative.
You’re always free to ask the candidates about their work- we don’t see ourselves
as politicians, we just try to implement your ideas and make the daily life on our
campus more valuable. (e.g. by installing water coolers)
Self administration in detail
Academic self administration
Standards are decided in a key department. The
university’s key bodies are the university’s management, the university’s extended
management and the senate. The bodies consist of student and staff representatives as well as professors.
Chairman is the university’s president and the university’s management with its
vice president and chancellor. Together they decide standards for the university’s
extended management and the senate.
The university’s extended management consists of the university’s management
and the deans of all faculties. They discuss university-wide matters and decide
measures.
Senate and university’s councillors are the last resort where decisions get determined. The senate decides statutes and regulations for governing the university and
public relations, whereas the university’s councillors strategic decisions such as the
initiation of a new study path.
For student representatives these two bodies are really important, because they’re
getting the latest news from the ministry first hand.
The senate decides matters, which were assigned by the Bavarian
Higher Education Act, such as
ƒ The university’s enacted legal regulations
ƒ Ideas for repealing, changing or establishing study paths
(Approving of the university’s councillors needed.)
ƒ Research focuses and matters of promotion of scientific and
artistic procreation
Among the university’s councillors are all of the senate’s members as well as the
same number of extern people. Student representatives are two out of 20.
68
Study Guide of Student Representatives of OTH Regensburg – WS 13/14
YOUR STUDENTS‘ REPRESENTATION
Self administration in detail
University’s councilors consist of field experts in science or
economy as well as outstanding local personalities. They
consult in matters of site development and decide e.g. :
ƒ The university’s strategy and profile.
ƒ Initiation of new study paths.
ƒ Changes in the university’s constitution.
Furthermore they elect the president and the vice presidents.
Besides they comment on various topics such as the estimated
budget and much more.
In other respects the faculties manage themselves. The dean is responsible for daily
affairs and chairman of the faculty council at the same time.
In about five meetings the faculty council, consisting of employees,
students and professors, decides about matters around the faculty.
The faculty council is the means of academic self administration and student codetermination within the faculty. Within the faculty council there are several workgroups that consider particular topics. For instance, the study path committee arranges changes or establishing study paths, it develops examination and study
regulations, and so on.
Student self administration The Bavarian Higher Education Act regulates responsibility as well as the structure of your student representatives. There’s no AStA1 in
Bavaria. The student representatives are responsible for cultural, social, technical
and sporting matters and rep their students’ interests in university’s policies.
Student self administration has key bodies, too. The key bodies are for instance the
student convention and the speakers council.
The student convention is a student parliament which elects its chairman by itself.
Furthermore it elects four speakers from various faculties, the socalled speakers
council.

69
Self administration in detail
YOUR STUDENTS‘ REPRESENTATION
The speakers‘ council consists of six students that represent all
the student representatives and perform current business. By default
both senators are members of the speakers‘ council. Two of the
other four members are elected by the student convention; the
other two members get elected by the student representatives.
These six students represent the social, political and cultural
interests externally.
The university funds the student convention. As soon as the election is over, it
decides a yearly budget, which schedules the resources to several sections. The
university’s administration checks every claim before it’s executed.
The student convention consists of both senators, the faculties‘
student representatives and 16 immediate elected students.
It’s the university’s student parliament with the same scopes as
the student speakers’ council.
Besides key student bodies there’s a student association in each faculty.
By law a student association of a faculty consists of the seven students that gathered
most votes in the latest election, the first four of them are members of the faculty
council.
It’s a main task of the student association to inform their students and represent
their interests. Furthermore they’re members of the faculty council.
The student association is not only politically motivated. In fact they’re organising
tournaments, tutors, office hours for questions of every kind, parties and similar
things. That’s why some more students join the students association without being
authorised by election.

FoSo
Forum Sozialwissenschaften (short form ‚‘FoSo‘‘, in English
‚forum social sciences‘) cares for the students‘ concerns at
the faculty social sciences. The continuous improvement of
the studies‘ quality and the advancement of the communication between the students are two essentials of our work. We
are keeping track of the commutation with the professors
and the right of students‘ self-administration. Four elected
representatives and a lot of other students campaign for our fellow students.
ƒ Consultation and information
We are interested in you and your concerns. You can talk to us in our consultation-hours or via email about everything. Either we can help you or we
know people who can.
ƒ Representation
We are meeting with the Dean, the Dean of Studies and other responsible
persons. In the faculty council, when calling new professors and at the assignment of the tuition fees we represent the students‘ concerns. Some of us
are members of the students‘ government.
ƒ Events
We want students of our faculty to meet and mingle with each other. Studying
is a lot more fun when you know people around. We also arrange events,
especially for freshman students.

FSIM
The FSIM is the students‘ representation of the faculty computer science and mathematics. It is located at the first floor of the ivory tower
(Sammelgebäude) of the university Regensburg (yes there is some
room-sharing with them ;-) ) and one of the bigger students‘ representations at the university of applied sciences.
In summer 2010 they were awarded as first organization the prize for
collegiate engagement at univeristy of the „Verein der Freunde der
Ostbayerischen Technischen Hochschule Regensburg“.
Besides the regular tasks of a students‘ representation, they also arrange multiple seasonal parties and additional supports willingly bigger events at the campus like the Campusfest or the FH-Fest.
They also hosted the conference of Germans computer science and mathematics students‘ representation in winter-term 2007/08. Therefore they founded an association
to have a legal body for this and all other engagement.
In the year of mathematics in 2008, the FSIM supported the faculty at multiple events
and also designed and maintained the representational website for this event. Additionally in this year, the Campusfest was in charge of the FSIM arranged the first time,
which led by growing of this event to the Campus Regensburg e.V.
Nevertheless, the main focus of the association is the direct work of the students‘ representation and also supports study trips as well as the purchase of study books for the
small faculty internal library.

FSMB
FSMB is the common abbreviation for the students’ representation
of mechanical engineering. The faculty consists of bachelor mechanical engineering, bachelor biomedical engineering, production engineering and automation, master industrial engineering
and master mechanical engineering.
Since 2011 FSMB is registered as a non-profit organisation. Their
main task is to organise events, support students of every term and
different path of studies belonging to their faculty.
They intercede between students and professors, advance students’
ideas for advancement in study conditions or the like and extend their services.
They do not only offer exercises, old exams, cheaper calculators, manage lockers
and cord scripts but provide a platform for better exchange of experiences between
different study paths.
Beginners get a special treatment with welcoming and introduction events and
guided tours on the campus as well as in the city. FSMB is a very active group
organising a variety of events. For instance a barbecue for the faculty’s members,
a Bavarian card game tournament, field trips and last but not least the “Montagskino”. Every Monday night a different movie is presented to students in a lecture
hall (on Galgenberg) for free.
You can contact FSMB any time, either in our office or via mail. As it is, we’re regularly in the office beyond opening hours – you’ll always find a sympathetic ear

Faculty Business Studies consists of both Bachelor Business Studies and European Business Studies as well as the Master Logistics.
FSBW is their student council.
Their task is to support faculty’s students in their concerns. They have a sympathetic ear to
generic questions about studies as well as suggestions. They also provide students with information concerning particular lectures (transcripts,
exercises, questions). FSBW represents their students’ interests in presence of professors or the student council.
They update important dates on their facebook page, like times for
applications.
Students can rent lockers for a term at their office. (Their lockers are
located around S054)
If books are no longer needed, you can submit those to their office, too.
It is also possible to buy older books there.
Beginners are guided through the university and are invited to a party
to meet.
FSBW organises the commencement as well.
FSBW consists of about 20 dedicated students of every term. There’s a lot to organise in
the biggest faculty of this university, hence you’re very welcome if you want to join.
Students are either able to contact FSBW in their daily office hours (there’s a schedule on

Student organization & student association
Dynamics e.V.
Dynamics e.V. is the Formula Student Team of the OTH Regensburg that actually consists of 60 students of all faculties
and semesters.
The common enthusiasm for racing and the manifested
aim to arrange for an improved quality of education at the
Hochschule Regensburg caused twenty students to found
Dynamics e.V. in December 2006. Since then, with support
of OTH Regensburg and economy, three own racing cars
were designed, constructed and produced. These participated at various official
competitions of Formula Student in Europe against international teams of other
universities with success. Every year, the team was able to build the racing car
more innovative and reliable and was thus able to increase the performance on
the events.
Formula Student is a construction competition of the automotive industry. The planning, constructing and producing of a racing car is a great challenge. The project is
run exclusively by students, they gain an intensive high practical orientation and are
able to apply their learned theoretical knowledge. Students gain the soft skills like
interdisciplinary teamwork, time management and competence of methods which
are more and more important in the modern working life, too.
Students also benefit personally from Formula Student. At Dynamics e.V. you can
meet students of all faculties and semesters and compare notes with them.

YOUR STUDENTS‘ REPRESENTATION
Association of Ostbayerische Technische Hochschule
Regensburg‘s Friends
The Association of Ostbayerische Technische Hochschule Regensburg‘s Friends, in German „Verein der
Freunde der Ostbayerischen Technischen Hochschule
Regensburg“ is indeed no exclusively student organisation. In fact, it is an association of alumni, friends
and sponsors of our university. If you’re interested in
keeping up with your university, this is the right organisation since 1958. Their regulars’ tables, field trips and
various other events constitute a good chance to connect companies, alumni and
students.
Goals of this association are support and care for the network between university,
economy and alumni as well as funding of science, research and postgraduate training at the university. This is accomplished by several assistant offerings, which are
very interesting, especially during the studies. In this way, the association subsidises
for example student projects or awards prizes.

YOUR STUDENTS‘ REPRESENTATION
Student organization & student association
regenics e.V.
regenics e.V. is a union of dedicated students who pursue the goal to participate
at a competition of Formula Student Electric with a electrical powered racing car.
regenics
electric racing regensburg
The Formula Student is a racing series in
which students of all around the world participate with their self-built racing cars. The
acceleration of the racing car, drive ability,
reliability and energy consumption are rated.
Moreover, the presentation of a thought-out
construction concept, cost plan and business
plan are important.
Because of the multifaceted field of responsibilities of regenics students of all faculties work hand in hand. To realize the dream of an electric racing car students
design circuitries, program microcontrollers which are responsible for newly electric
actuation or which resume the battery management. A special value is the light
weight construction and so the design of mechanical components calls for high
competence, too. During the building of the car, students with job training are also
questioned because a lot of devices are self-produced from students in the factories
of Ostbayerische Technische Hochschule.
A powerful team is necessary, too, which is responsible for the organization of this
huge project. Therefore, sponsors have to be gained and the transport of car and
team to the various events has to be organised. If you join regenics, you have the
possibility to realise this exciting project inside a team and work like in a small
company. And oftentimes you can learn more than in lectures.

USO e.V.
USO e.V. (independent student organisation e.V.) is a registered non-profit organisation trying to help students. It
consists of several dedicated students of all faculties and
organises events and parties at Ostbayerische Technische
Hochschule. Most of its earnings are donated to social
facilities and invested in joint equipment (e.g. barbecues,
event tents, and many more).
This organisation is a chance to be dedicated for students, who have no interest in
the university’s politics. It’s like a university wide student association providing its
members with contacts to students all around the campus.
We welcome everybody who wants to join us- no matter what path of studies you’re
