May 25, 2014 Sixth Sunday of Easter
May 25, 2014 Sixth Sunday of Easter
The Power of the Spirit
Take time this week to reflect and pray over today’s
Readings: Acts 8:5–8, (14-17)
Psalm 66
1 Peter 3:15-18 or 1 Peter 4:13-16
Gospel John 14:15-21 or John 17:1-11a
Do you recognize the sacrament that is celebrated in
today’s first reading from the Acts of the Apostles?
When Peter and John imposed hands on those who
had been baptized, they received the Holy Spirit in
the sacrament of confirmation. The reading from the
First Letter of Peter and the passage from John’s
Gospel both consider the results of our baptism and
confirmation. Peter reminds us it is likely that we
will have to suffer for what we believe.
In today’s Gospel Jesus speaks clearly about the
Holy Spirit, referring to a “Paraclete,” one who will
stand with us to defend us. Poignantly, Jesus promises his disciples, and all of us, “I will not leave you
orphans.” He has never left his followers orphaned.
We have always had the Holy Spirit to guide us.

Welcome to St. Didacus Church
MISSION STATEMENT:
To foster a harmonious, loving and prayerful
atmosphere within the parish community that will
project the love of Christ!
Our warmest welcome to all! We extend our
hands and hearts in Christian fellowship to you here,
celebrating with us, whether long-time residents or
newly arrived in the Parish. We invite you to become
part of our parish family.
Parish Registration forms are available in the
parish office or you can download a form at
www.stdidacus.org. We thank God you are with us.
From The Pastor's Desk
In two weeks we will be celebrating the Pentecost of the Church. Pentecost was something that was celebrated
by the Jews long before the Church, but the significance was as an observance of fifty days after the Passover.
However, since the advent of Christ it is seen as a memorial of the day that the Church received the Holy
Spirit. In other words it is the birthday of the Church.
How do you prepare for this memorial? Take a listen to the readings. In the first reading, we have the account
of the deacon, Phillip, who goes to Samaria to tell the people of the “good news” of Jesus. They are baptized
but do not have the fullness of God until they receive the Spirit when John and Peter come to them and pray
over them to receive “the gift from on high.”
Jesus tells us in the Gospel about the sending of the “Advocate” who will “be with you always.” As much as
this is true and as much as God will always love us He still states that if we love Him, we must demonstrate it
by keeping His commandments.
Too many of us feel content to do the bare minimum in order to be considered Christians and letting God love
us. We can say that we follow the commandments but if Jesus says that the greatest commandment is to “love
the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your being,” then the bare minimum of
all our devotion is not really loving God.
This is another reason for sending us the Advocate: The Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit provides us with the
desire and the fortitude that is necessary in order to truly demonstrate the love of God. We need to call upon
the Spirit of God to provide for us because we will always fall short in our human efforts to fulfill God’s command.

Safeguard The Children
Did You Know?
A healthy scrutiny of programs for kids helps create a healthy environment
It is not a best practice for a parent, guardian, employer, or manager to blindly trust everyone who works with children. Yet, paranoia
of those who work with children is also not a best practice. There is a healthy balance. By regularly and frequently questioning the
actions and motives of those who work with children, parents and other adults can audit the programs their children participate in
and help keep caregivers accountable for their work. In this process, parents and other adults can create a constant fear of being
caught in the mind of a perpetrator. By channeling this kind of healthy scrutiny and suspicion into accountability, adults can create
an environment where children are protected, quality care is emulated, and abuse is not tolerated. For a copy of the VIRTUS®
article, “An ounce of healthy suspicion is worth a pound of prevention,” email: [email protected]
¿Sabia Usted?

Baptism Requirements
If the parents live within St. Didacus Parish boundaries, they are required
to register in the Parish. Attendance at one Pre-baptism class is required
of the parents and Godparents. Pre-Baptism classes are held the first
Thursday of every month in English at the Parish Center at 7:30 p.m..
Attendance at a Pre-Baptism class in another parish is acceptable, but a
certificate of proof is required. After attending the class, the Parents must
call to make an appointment to fill out the Baptismal record form and to
select the Sunday they wish to Baptize. The parents are asked to bring a
copy of the child’s birth certificate or hospital certificate to the appointment. English Baptisms are held the second and fourth Sunday of the
month at 2:30 p.m. If the parents are living in or registered in another
parish, they need to bring permission from that parish to the meeting, in
order to baptize here.
Godparent Requirements
One Godparent, male or female, is sufficient. The Godparent’s
must be practicing Catholics (attending weekly Mass and frequent
reception of the sacraments). The Godparent’s must be confirmed and be
at least 18 years old. If the Godparent’s are married, they must be married
in the Catholic Church. One Godparent may be a non-Catholic Christian (a
Christian Witness) who is practicing their faith. This excludes those who
were formerly Catholic. Non-Christians may not stand as Godparents for a
Catholic Baptism.
