Featuring a beginner competition Piobaireached, the Aberdeen Trophy Piobaireached
as well as the Aberdeen Trophy MSR
26 and 27 September 2015
Scotland’s national instrument, the iconic bagpipes, is still
hugely popular. From buskers on the street to pipe bands
parading through Scottish towns and cities, you are certainly
likely to hear the unmistakable sound of the bagpipe in
Scotland before you see them!
Today the bagpipes are used in military and regional pipe
bands, to entertain at ceilidhs and in folk bands and solo
performances. They are also commonly used to accompany
Scottish Highland dancing.

Aberdeen Trophy MSR with prize giving ceremony
Participants: 12 international top pipers
Willie McCallum is one of the foremost
competing pipers in the world today. A native
of Campbeltown, Kintyre, Willie has won
almost every prize in solo piping and several
times over. In recent years, several of his
students have gained high placings at the
major piping gatherings at Oban, Inverness
and London. He also has long and successful
pipe band experience and was a member of
the Scottish Power Pipe Band winning 3 major
championships.
Steven Leask, from Irvine, Ayrshire, has been
actively involved in piping for the last 14 years,
having received tuition from his local pipe band
from the age of 9. As well as competing at the
top level of pipe bands, Steven enjoys success as
a solo competitor and is currently graded B for
both piobaireachd and light music, with 2015
being his irst opportunity to compete in the
Silver Medal at the Argyllshire Gathering and
Northern Meeting.
