Daily Announcements
School Physicals-Every person must have a complete physical before they can
tryout for any Kahler team. Physicals can be found in the office and online.
School Sports-There is a $45 registration fee per sport.
We recycle-Please bring in empty ink cartridges, batteries and/or used cell phones to
the school office. We will collect throughout the school year.
LA & MATH LAB-Please be advised that as of Jan 14th, 2nd Semester, LA & MATH lab
will be canceled. Any student having trouble or in need of help, please see your
teacher during SRT.
5th GRADE DECAL FUNDRAISER-5th grade is selling car window decals. They will be
sold for $3.00 per decal. If you are interested in buying one, please send EXACT cash
or checks made payable to KAHLER Middle School with your child to school. If you
have any questions, please call Deanna Garton or Tracey Morsovillo at 865-3535
x228.
Friendship Club-Below is a list of the meeting dates and times or the 2009-2010
Friendship Club. This year will be filled with many fun surprises, such as crafts,
games, food, parties, and more! Come see what all the fun is about and meet some
new friends….Tuesday, December 15th,Tuesday, January 12th ,Tuesday, February
2nd,Tuesday, February 23rd , Tuesday, March 16th,Tuesday, April 6th,Tuesday, April
27th, and Tuesday, May 18th (End of the year PARTY until 5:15). All meetings start
directly after school and last for an hour. Rides must be here to pick you up promptly
at 4:45. If you have any questions regarding the Friendship Club, please see Mrs.
Antczak in room 236! Hope to see you there!
SPELL BOWL-Congratulations to the Spell Bowl team for placing 2nd in Class 1 at the
State Spell Bowl competition at Purdue University on November 14th. Kahler spelled
70 of our 72 words correctly and tied with the first place winner but was named 2nd
place due to the tie breaker rule. We are very proud of our students and teacher
sponsors!! Spell Bowlers: Delaney Fagan, Leanna Mroz, Jamie Zega, Sherry Shibu,
Marc Mertsching, Christopher Lappo, Dana Mularski, Rayyan Karim, Adam Hanchar,
Riley Georghegan, Matthew Tao, and Etura Williams. Thank you to our teacher
sponsors, Mrs. Bloom-Johnson and Mrs. Rosine. Students who ordered pictures at
state, please see Mrs. Bloom-Johnson, to pick them up.
5th GRADE MATH BOWL-Congratulations!! The following students have earned the
honor of being part of the fifth grade Kahler Math Bowl team for the 2009-2010 school
year. Kristina Almeida, Payal Bhatt, Eric Blankenship, Matthew Brady, Josh Drosos,
Kyle Freel, Chris Fundich, Erica Guevara, Olivia Kindt, Stefan Krajisnik, Christime
Kutka, Mark Layne, Katrina Lozanoski, Darby McGrath, Matthew Mireles, Eric Mularski,
Jordan Ores, Andrew Pruitt, Desiree Stoces, and Spero Vrehas. Mrs. Fies will be
holding weekly practices to prepare for the March competition. Students will be
focusing on accuracy and speed as well as overall mathematical knowledge. Good
Luck Team!!
MATHCOUNTS-The Kahler Mathcounts competition has begun. It is open to any 6th8th grader. The target round will take place on Thursday, Jan. 21. You may come to
either the morning session from 7:45-8:3-am or after school from 3:45-4:15pm.
Bring a pencil with an eraser. You may use a calculator for this round. The chapter
competition will be on Feb 9th at Valparaiso University. It will include the top 8
participants from Kahler’s competition.
SPRING PLAY-Did you know that mannequins come to life after your favorite
clothing stores close? It’s true, If this is something that you want to be a part of, then
the spring play, After Hours, is for you. Auditions are Tuesday, January 26th from
3:45-5:30pm in the LGI. If you are a 7th or 8th grader who is interested in auditioning
for this year’s production of After Hours, please see Miss Graykowski in room 145 for
information right away. Be part of the magic. Not all about being on stage? Work
behind the scenes on the crew. There will be a meeting especially for the crew at a
later date.
JUNIOR INTERACT-Will be having a bake sale during lunches on Tuesday, January
26th and again of Friday, January 27th. All proceeds from the bake sale will go to CARE
International for the HAITI disaster relief effort. Please support our bake sale!!
NJHS-There is a new opportunity for points. On Saturday, January 30th, volunteers
are needed to help out with a dance competition here at Kahler. Sign-ups and details
are outside of Mrs. Jones’ room 136.
STUDENT COUNCIL-Will be holding their “CRUSH” Sale from February 8thFebruary 10th. You can purchase tickets during your lunch hours starting in
February. Tickets are $1 each. Here are your choices… I think your “grape”, I got a
“BERRY” big crush on you and “ORANGE” you glad we’re friends. Support student
council and buy your friends a pop. Any questions, see Miss Petersen in room 249.
YEAR BOOK SALES-Yearbook sales will start Tuesday, January 26th and end
on Thursday, February 11th. 2010 yearbooks will be $15.00 each. Please make
check payable to Inter-State Studios. Order forms will be passed out during
SRT on the 26th. Please return your order forms to your SRT teacher or to the
front office.
SCIENCE OLYMPIAD-Meetings will be held Tuesday after school until 4:30pm in Mrs.
Jen’s room, 116 and on Wednesday after school until 4:30pm in Mrs. Tharp’s Room,
118. Please bring materials with you and be ready to practice for your event.
Arrange for a ride home no later than 4:30pm at Door D.
LC WEIGHT LIFTING-Any 6th-8th grade student interested in improving their athletic
skills, the LC Middle School weight lifting program continues at the HS. The weight
training program is Monday-Thursday after school located at the LC weight room. Any
athlete interested in the weight training program needs to pick up a waiver from Mr.
Gray and ride bus #30 any day after school to Lake Central. Please have your ride at
Lake Central for pick up at 5:30pm. Any questions see Mr. Gray.
PARENT INFORMATION NIGHTJanuary 14th at 6:30pm is 7th Grade Parent night at Kahler. This will be an opportunity
for parents of current 7th grade students to understand the 7th grade transitions plan
and how the classes that are chosen now can impact high school class sequence.
January 21st is 8th Grade Parent night at the Lake Central Freshmen Center.
Parents of incoming Lake Central freshmen are invited to join us for Parent
Information Night on January 21, 2010. Parents can attend a 45-minute information
program, visit information booths, and take a tour of the Lake Central Freshmen
Center and High School. Group sessions are held every 45 minutes in the Freshmen
Center LGI Room. Please attend the sessions at the times indicated:
Last Name A-F: 6:00PM, G-L: 6:45PM, M-R: 7:30PM S-Z: 8:15PM.
Information Booths and Tours: Staff representatives from various departments will be
available to answer your questions in the cafeteria between 6:00 and 8:00PM. Tours
of the Freshmen Center and Lake Central High School are also available for interested
parents. Tours begin in the cafeteria. This orientation program is only for parents of
all incoming 9th grade students. The students will be attending orientation sessions at
a later date. If you have any questions, please call 365-2760 X 267.
February 1st and 2nd is Freshmen Scheduling at Kahler. The freshmen guidance
counselors will be at Kahler to schedule the 8th grade students for their freshmen
classes.
