“Next door’s neighbour”
The Teatro Experimental do Funchal – TEF débuts
on April a brand new play. A four acts comedy by the
Portuguese playwright André Brun, which will surely
bring many good mood moments to its audiences.
“A Vizinha do lado” (Next door’s neighbour) went
on stage for the first time on January 5, 1945, in Oporto
Coliseum, and since then has toured throughout the
Portuguese mainland, across theaters or cinemas.
This story spins around Mr. Plácido Mesquita, an
Ethics Teacher at Famalicão’s High School, who arrives at
the Portuguese capital, Lisbon, to visit his nephew, Edward,
supposedly studying medicine. The situation becomes
complicated because, apart from the fact of that Eduardo is
not studying at all, he’s also living with a showgirl in musical
comedies, Isabel.
It’s an everyday life story, which brings up other daily common
stories that may happen to anyone
and anywhere.
“Next door’s neighbour”
is staged by Eduardo and
Luíz and opens on April 10,
in Santo-António movietheatre, in Funchal.
Note: we regret to inform
that the above play
is exclusively held
in Portuguese.

The Madeira Film Festival is a cinema festival about nature
that promotes the Region’s Laurel Forest *, world heritage site
recognized by UNESCO, returns this year for its 3rd edition from
April 21 to 27. This cultural and educational independent event
staged at the Belmond Reid’s Palace and Municipal Theatre
Baltazar Dias, in Funchal.
The festival includes, as in previous editions, the official
film’s selection, concerts, panel discussions, workshops, an
educational project and a wide social programme, including gala
dinners, Madeira wine cocktails -, the official drink of Madeira
Film Festival, the Laurissilva Ambassador award fashion shows
and vintage car’s parades.
The programme is vast and diversified, offering to all of
those who wish to partake, plenty of good motives to attend
this year’s event.
Official website: http://madeirafilmfestival.com
* Laurel forest, also called laurissilva, is the name given to a type
of subtropical forest found in areas with high humidity and relatively
stable, mild temperatures. The forest is mainly characterized by the
presence of plants from the laurel family (Lauraceae) and endemic
Macaronesian region formed by the archipelagos of Madeira, the
Azores, the Canary Islands and Cape Verde. In Madeira, its higher
presence is shown in the highlands of the island, where is located the
largest and most well preserved area, recognized in 1999 by UNESCO
as world heritage site, occupying a range of about 15,000 hectares.
