highlight MADEIRA FLOWER FESTIVAL From April 19th to 25th the celebrations of Madeira Flower festival return to Funchal, once again, filling the main streets of the city with colour. The Madeira Flower Festival brings numerous initiatives to the city’s downtown, with a special highlight for the magnificent and typical floral carpets throughout the Arriaga Avenue and the traditional Flower Exhibition, which will be held at the Restauração Square. During the weekend are held the main events of this festival. On Saturday hundreds of children gather at the Município Square creating a beautiful flower mural, symbolically named “the Wall of Hope”. On Sunday the highlight goes to the always exquisite Flower Parade combining blooming decorations, aromas and music, leading to downtown Funchal many locals and visitors. Alongside these events, also takes place musical concerts and performances by different Regional folklore groups. It aimed to share know-hows by assembly and confronting the different collections existent in Madeira Museums, promoting new partnerships and innovative contexts of exhibition. During the past year were held six exhibitions within this project, involving the Quinta das Cruzes Museum, House-museum Frederico de Freitas, Madeira Ethnographic Museum, Vicentes Photographia Museum and the Contemporary Art Museum of Funchal. Those six displays were: “The Maios necklaces and the spring in the 18th Century Portuguese Jewellery”; “Mirror, mirror”; (Un)likely Everyday Life; Art Nouveau and Art Deco: the Silence of Forms; Arts of the Table - European china of the 18th and 19th centuries and “An Attentive Look”. For 2012 is already being carried on a programme with other new projects, once again targeted to share experiences, but now including circle of Museums. So, on April 18th, celebrating the International Day for Monuments and Sites opens an exhibition at the São Lourenço Palace, in Funchal. “The Iconography of São Lourenço Palace in the collections of House-museum Frederico de Freitas and Quinta das Cruzes museum”. The display results from a straight collaboration between DRAC Directorate of Museums and the São Lourenço Palace Museum Services, with a special emphasis on the particular commitment of Counsel Ireneu Barreto, the current representative of the Portuguese Republic in the Autonomous Region of Madeira. The exhibition may be attended until June 30th. Following the same format of performance held on December 2011, will be performed parts of classical and contemporary ballets, harmoniously combining the different virtues of the classical world ballet with the recognized success of the Russian Dance School. The show id divided in two parts.
