Boosterthon Fun Run
Eastvalley students and their families were encouraged to DREAM BIG
from March 3rd through the 12th as
we embarked on our first ever Booserthon Fun Run experience. The
Boosterthon guys kicked off this
amazing 10 day fundraiser with Pep
Rallies chock-full of all the ingredients our students love…..music, silliness, prizes, opportunities to get in
on the action, watching their teachers dance, and free reign to scream as loud as possible. While there, they were introduced to the Boosterthon core values: Education, Fitness and Character.
Throughout the Team days, our children received a brief lesson on 5 character
traits: Diligence, Responsibility, Enthusiasm, Appreciation and Making a Difference,
and were given practical applications for demonstrating these in every day life. The
Boosterthon Team did an amazing job of emanating enthusiasm and a positive outlook
with the goal of supporting and encouraging students to do and be their very best.
The Fun Run itself was a blast and our students absolutely loved it! The weather
was perfect and the field behind our school was transformed into a dual track
speedway where EVERY student ran, skipped, surfed, flew, limboed and danced their
laps after pausing briefly for Teacher Coaches to mark their progress on their
shirts.
Some interesting facts from the Boosterthon Fun Run at our school this year: While
the Fun Run involved EVERY CHILD regardless of financial participation, 75% of
Eastvalley students participated financially in the program!
Pledges were received from all 50 states and 19 different countries! Be on
the lookout for Ms. Wacker’s special reward for meeting the “50
State Principal’s Challenge” on Friday, April 3rd!

From the Principal
April 2009
Dear Parents,
We’ve reached the time of year when our thoughts are already looking ahead to next year.
It’s amazing how far ahead we need to plan to have everything ready for the new school year
which will begin in August. In that light, I need to share some new procedures with you.
As I shared with teachers the very first meeting I spent with them last August, I trust that the best and
brightest have been hired to teach at Eastvalley. We have now worked together for 7 months and I have
found that the staff here is very dedicated and caring for all students. I feel every teacher is going to give
their best effort to make sure that every child reaches the highest possible expectations.
For the next school year, I will not be accepting requests for a specific teacher to teach your child. I will
also not accept any requests for a certain teacher not to have your child. Our procedure will be for the current-year teachers to meet with me and build classes of students who will work well together. There will be
no names on the class lists; I will make the teacher assignments later in the summer. Please do not write
letters to your current teacher or to me with any teacher requests, as they will not be honored.
Registration cards for next school year will be sent home in late April/early May. All students in Kindergarten through 4th grade will receive a registration card. Registration cards are required each school year
for your child to be properly enrolled in school. In order to be placed on a class list for next year, this registration card must be returned by the due date. If you are moving, or your child is not returning to Eastvalley
for some other reason, you will write a note that your child is not retuning and return it to the classroom
teacher. That way, we will know not to place your child on a class list. The envelope that the cards come
home in will be used to mail the final report card home in late May. We will ask each family to put 4 (four)
U.S. postage stamps on the envelope to ensure that it will be delivered through the U.S. mail.
Spring Break is upon us, and I hope that each of you has a wonderful time off with your family. Rest, relax
and reenergize! You will need it for when we return, we will be coming quickly to CRCT testing and all
the special events that happen at the end of the school year.

April 2009
Prezados Pais,
Pedimos a

CONSEQUENCES OF CRIME PROGRAM
Consequences of Crime is a program coordinated by the Eastern Cobb County Council PTA and works
closely with the Sheriff's office to implement the presentations. This program was presented at Eastvalley in March. Fifteen students from fifth grade classes were selected randomly by their teachers for a
field trip to the Cobb County Adult Detention Center. The students toured the center, while receiving
information about shoplifting, juvenile delinquency, drugs and alcohol, with a focus on choices and their
consequences. Upon their return, they shared their experiences and impressions with their classmates. They will be requested to write a short paragraph that you will see right here in the Newsletter!
Stay tuned….

Boosterthon Fun Run Continued...
As a whole, the students averaged 32 laps at the Fun Run (about 2 miles)! And a total of 16,920 laps
were run! (almost 1,000 miles)!
If we collect 100% of our pledges, Eastvalley’s net profit will be nearly $24,000 …an absolutely
amazing and unparalleled feat!
The classes who brought in the most pledges were Mrs. Swafford’s, Mrs. Whitaker’s, and Ms. Grierson’s.
Mrs. Hathcoat’s class won the “most new pledges on the final night” challenge and Solomon Welfare in Mrs.
Savage’s class received the highest individual pledges overall! Be sure to check out his one-of-a-kind, personalized tennis shoes once they arrive!

Hats off to our incredible students for DREAMING BIG… way beyond our expectations … going above and
beyond in contributing much needed funds for their school. A big thank you goes out to our greatest head
cheerleader, Ms. Wacker, our assistant cheerleader, Mrs. Morris, all our Coaches (Cobb County’s finest
teachers), our fabulous Super Fans (better known as Room Reps) and their dedicated coordinator, and
Eastvalley Staff for rising to the occasion and keeping up with the Boosterthon Team in terms of energy
and enthusiasm. Thank you to our volunteers on the day of the Fun Run and to the tireless water station
workers who kept our runners well-hydrated. A huge thank you also goes to our EASTVALLEY PARENTS
for your support of - and tolerance for - the need for fundraising, especially in these difficult economic
times. Your generosity is a tangible example of what makes Eastvalley the “little school” with a “Big Heart”!
